    Back in college in 1990, Bullet India Ad punchline that inspired me to bring this beauty home and the beginning of an neverending Love Story 428,000 passionate km later and still going strong was - " Let the boys play with their toys, it takes a man to ride a bullet".
    Oh God that was it straight N sweet.

    Good review! I've had my Classic 500 for 3 years, 14,500 miles coming up and it's been brilliant! You're spot on about it attracting attention. Everywhere I go people stop, admire and ask "How old is it"? or "How long did it take to restore"? or "My dad/Uncle/Grandad had a Royal Enfield". I even had one old boy who rode (The Flying Flea) one during the Normandy Invasion!! It's such a delight to ride (the reviewers are spot on in their summary) and I would never part with her :-)

      Hi.
      Do you think the bullet would make a good everyday commuter bike and the odd 150 mile trip to Somerset?
      Also, does it require a lot of maintenance?
      Many thanks.

    • @whatsstefon
      @whatsstefon Před 4 lety +1

      @@tobias13100 it may end up a little unpleasant on the highways. But it'll be capable.
      I often do a weekend ride of 350km distance. Along with 80km/h highway ride for 30 minute commute daily during the week.
      Maintenance is easier than missing the toilet and pissing on the seat while drunk at 3am.
      In other words, they're very easy to work on.

    I'm looking at buying one and I've had 47 bikes in my riding career so far spanning 43 years from mopeds to rocketships but I'm sick over complex massively technical power and rev hungry monsters..every bike regardless of its make is an adventure bike! Ride modes are controlled by throttle, gear and brake knowledge and knowledge of road surface conditions is way more useful than abs.so I'm going back to basics and I'll ride it hundreds of miles round Northumberland Cumbria county Durham and the Scottish borders!! Fabulous !!

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 Před 6 lety +6

      It is not a lightweight bike, it's about 190kg/420-lb. It is easy to ride and well behaved but you need to learn about controlling a bike at slow speed and stopping on a small bike first, like a Honda Grom maybe. A grown man cannot muscle this bike upright if you misplace a foot stopping, it will just push your leg out of the way. When I am on this bike we are over 1/4-ton, that means braking has to be anticipated. It's about balance and control, and road awareness. It's not fast compared to bigger engined bikes but it's certainly fast enough to get a newbie into trouble; when you come off a motor bike, you don't get a saving throw. Probably ideal for anyone returning to bikes or experienced riders wanting something different.

    • @gfunk63901
      @gfunk63901 Před 5 lety +3

      I bought a classic 500 in black back in February. I enjoy the bike and am so disappointed that they have pushed this black one aside and are favoring bigger bikes like the interceptor and the other one. They barely gave these bikes a chance and did so little marketing that my dealer decided to stop selling Enfields altogether.

    I have one in military green, it has been great fun and reliable. It is not a Southern California freeway Cruiser unless you're talking about rush hour when the traffic is slowed. I have a 350 from another manufacturer that will blow it in the weeds and if you need speed that would be a better choice. I have done 500 miles in a single day on this RE 500 with my wife on the back, no problem. We have three other motorcycles available to us and most of the time we ride this 500.
    The only thing about the bike that I don't like is the muffler is just too long it contains a catalytic converter and because of air pollution concerns I would rather not remove it.

    Ironically REs are so common here in India. My grandfather used to have a British made Bullet back in the 50s and I grew up listening to stories of that motorcycle. Come 2010s every bloke has a RE and it has lost its exclusivity and charm. The Single 500 will forever be my most favorite motorcycle ever, but I wouldn't get one.

    This Bike draws more attention as younger generations driven more towards the modern bikes are tired of watching the same kind of models and specs . Real bikes were built for robust and best ride experience and if broken down , Men loved to get their hands dirty with petrol and oil. Simple and classic as its name suggests . Classic Bike takes you to least late 1960s model . I own a white one .

    It's slow, heavy(while standstill) and fairly unreliable. But once you start riding it, it removes the need to speed and you enjoy the ride like on no other motorcycle.
    Remove the rear seat and it looks so much better.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 Před 6 lety +13

      It's slow? That would explain how I can embarrass a sports bike by still being on their tail every time they look behind. It's no crotch rocket but how fast one can go is determined by the road and 'the scenery', it's not a race track. Riding like a complete plongeur will have you in the hostipal.
      Removing the pillion seat means you can't get your best girl on the back.

      K!ll3epls 03 - no, it's far too heavy for a newbie. In the UK it's an A2 licence, you need to start on a 125. Seriously, a newbie will make silly mistakes, you can get away with those on a 125. The Enfield is about the same weight as a Bonnie or a Guzzi V7.

    Surely as a first bike while learning to ride its quite heavy compared to modern bikes. As new to riding accidents are likely to happen; Would I want to drop something a beautiful as that?

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 Před 6 lety +1

      It's not a 'first bike' - that would be something far lighter like a 125cc. The EFI-500 is big enough and heavy enough to get a newbie into trouble fast. Learn the ropes on a tiddler.

    I'm 6 foot 2 would it be comfortable for somebody my size? How is the reliability on the new classics?

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi Peter, I think it would be fine for your size, it is a super comfortable machine and very easy to ride! The reliability of the Royal Enfields is good, they are tried and tested, and if there are some problems, they can be ironed out and once they are, these machines can last a long time!

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 Před 6 lety +2

      Only if you have ridiculously long legs. Despite the low seat, the foot pegs are quite well forwards, not cruiser but sit up and beg. They can haul a huge amount of weight. They are toured around Europe, India, Australia and excel in mountains; the ECU is mapped to 18,000-ft.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 Před 6 lety +2

      The most common fault seems to be electrical connectors coming apart. You push them back together. When very new, nut and bolts loosen; they stop doing that once it is run-in.
      We get export models which are different to the domestic indian models in many ways. The Euro4 bikes seem to be better put together than the Euro3 were.

    • @aussiejohn1987
      @aussiejohn1987 Před 6 lety

      Mate I’m 6ft4 and it’s not an issue. The bike looks smaller in videos in my opinion, though in the flesh it’s quite a bit larger. The only problem I have is the brake pedal is too close to the foot peg so I’m always super careful not to accidentally engage the brake light, though I’ve adjusted the brake pedal lower and removed the clunky rubber pad so it’s less of an issue now.
      Reliability is good, though do keep a close eye on all the bolts because they will rattle loose!

    Love your video... and the bike! But I don't think it's cheap to maintain as it needs servicing every 3.000 km at a cost of £120-£150. I mean... Doing 9.000 km a year means nearly £450. Is that cheap compared to other bikes?

    • @dotcombubbles
      @dotcombubbles Před 5 lety +1

      David Lopez you could service it yourself easy. Just need to pick up a few tools beside the toolkit that comes with it. They are fairly simple to service especially a carb version. As long as you change oil and filter every 3000km, lube the chain, grease bolts and nuts, dust off the air filter, flush the carb float bowl, and what not it will be fairly reliable.
