My issue is that she treats Snowball as if he (or she) actually died, when you can literally just recharge the battery. In fact, she DOES recharge the battery.
Well at the time, she couldn't charge Snowball since there was no power left and she might not have planned to leave there and just wait for someone to come rescue them

Mei literally found out her friends died and she was the last survivor. And in a matter of a minute, she moved on. Snowball, her only friend left sacrificed them self and she was completely left alone. And what did she do? She moved on. Honestly this girl is so strong and brave, she keeps moving forward, not looking back on the past, keeping her hope, her determination, it’s all so inspiring. A lot of us would have just cried and maybe even blamed the world. This could have been Mei’s backstory on how she becomes a villain, blaming society for the disbandment of overwatch, thus letting her friends die. But she swears to protect humanity and fight alongside overwatch. Truly an idol

Mei's story is so inspiring every time I watch it.
She wakes up after 9 years to find she has been forgotten and is all alone except snowball after finding out her team has died in cryogenic sleep.
And after her struggles to create the cry-gun and losing her friends and snowball she tries to call for help only to be met with a call for help back and even after all that she choses not to give up hope but to answer the call of from Overwatch.
To me that is what makes her a true hero even in her greatest time of need she puts others before herself even if it means facing near impossible odds.

In the lore, Mei is such a sweet character. She even pours hot drinks in her friends' mugs and puts them on their freezing chambers to pay her respects.
In the game, she's a little devil who denies all your abilities and ultimates, and even mobility.
And that's why I play her.

If you think about it, Mei is the embodiment of Overwatch's core message - the whole "always use more heroes" thing. She was but a lowly climatologist while Overwatch was around, and then after "witnessing" her colleagues and friend's deaths, faced insurmountable odds to hopefully save millions of people, even taking up the recall message. Truly one of my favourite shorts
Edit - Since some people are confused, when I said 'Lowly Climatologist', I meant in terms of the more fantastical Heroes in the roster. No disrespect to irl Climatologists

I think the main problem is that the lore of the characters wouldn't make sense in terms of the game itself. Weird, since Blizz keeps developing backstories for each character. Kind of weird how you'd have characters like Widowmaker and Tracer on the same team, even though you can tell they're enemies. I think a campaign/story mode would further question that.
Then again, in the multiplayer game, who cares about story at that point? Kind of like how in Mortal Kombat X you can have Johnny Cage viciously murder his own daughter. I think Blizz will incorporate a story mode when interest in the game starts to slow down, and fans want something more than just a new character or map.

As Kaplan has said, the reason ie because they liked the idea of the fans filling in the blanks. Creating personalities and headcanons. Ships and backstories. They knew it was inevitably going to happen so they based their whole model around it. These shorts are the backbone for us to build on and go wild and have fun with it. Cause in the end, the game was designed with fun as the first priority.

Furthermore, the virus was contained relatively well in relation to other deadly viruses such as the H1N1 virus from America. You can see that other countries such as Vietnam and South Korea have prevented the virus from properly devastating their economies. However, America has been dealt a heavy blow due to Trump's improper actions in early January. Stop blaming China for the mistakes of other governments.
@xr7fan "LIKELY" There is a current ongoing coalition of 106 nations INCLUDING CHINA that have agreed to search for the origin of covid and how each individual nation did in their efforts to contain it. HOWEVER AMERICA DID NOT JOIN THIS COALITION. Because Trump knows that he would be the laughing stock of the world once the coalition finds out just how much he delayed preventative measures. At this point, I trust the Chinese government more as they were not the ones that have claimed "masks are useless" for the first month of the outbreak. Couple that along with the fact that Trump has even suggest INJECTING DISINFECTANT, I think I'll believe the other side for now.

For the love of god Blizzard safe your company, make an animated film or show of this PLZ.
The beautiful thing is that even after being frozen for 9 years, being completely forgotten about and left to die, losing all of her friends, and having to make her way out of antarctica by herself, she's still one of the most cheerful heroes in the game.
Well, that seems to be a common trend for a lot of the characters. Tracer was lost in time, which was (as she said) a terrifying experience, and yet she's still a happy and silly character. Winston feels great sadness for both the current state of the world, and the fate that befell the Lunar Colony scientists, including his father figure, and yet he still has a great sense of humor and care for his friends. Reinhardt is a veteran of a world war, having watched soldiers and civilians being slaughtered in mass by the Omnics, including his master and close friend, yet he is perhaps the friendliest character in the game to those whom he loves. Notable exceptions to this trend are Soldier: 76, Ana, and Reaper, who are all haunted by their past and are grim, embittered vigilantes and (in the case of Reaper) terrorists.

It did say Malfunction when she woke up earlier and it could meant that she was the lucky one. One could preserve them through hibernation but if the certain capsule had malfunction it wouldnt preserve the bodies and they could be dead inside. It showed the heartrate earlier with flat lines, meaning they were dead and she had to give them one last cup of tea to pay respects to them as a team. :)
