    Nice find, Mopar Police Pursuit Vehicles is like finding a needle in a haystack!!! I say restore it, hell, I like to have it myself!!! If you decide to do anything with it, DO NOT RESTOMOD IT!!! I have a '72 Plymouth Fury III unmarked Police Pursuit Car, 440, the works, mine was given to me from my Nephew!!! He had those stupid damn bling bling wheels on it, has cop car wheels on it with caps now, the car is in Grey primer, looks like a whiskey runner!!! They car originally was a dark silver/grey metallic, it will return back to that color!!! Best of luck to you, you'll be better off with it's originality, guaranteed!!! Thank you much for the comment!! I know it's not what everyone wants to hear, but I don't plan to return to the original pursuit look. I don't like the stupid big blingy wheels, that's not my style at all. I want to make it look good! If I get an offer impossible to refuse on it, I'd sell to someone interested in a original restoration. But no one is going to buy it for what I'd need to be able to find another nice project in similar condition with a 440! I know there's going to be a lot of people displeased about that...

    Excellent find! The speedometer should read "certified" on the face of it. Also Torqueflite transmissions that have set up for a while will respond better if you let the car idle in Neutral instead of Park for more fluid circulation. I hope your next video is of you power washing it lol.

    By the way, be careful using so much ether because the engine can get addicted to it and will never start again without it.

      @DieselRanchYT  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I haven't heard that! Good to know. Hopefully it won't need ether to start up from now on! I'll be running seafoam through it for a while, until I get a new gas tank and lines.

      @mikeadams2677 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@DieselRanchYT That really goes for gas and diesel engines. I've been told by mechanics in the past that sometimes when the engine gets addicted to ether they still won't start without it even after a fresh total rebuild. Why that is or how it happens, I don't know and haven't heard an explanation for it, but maybe some more experienced mechanics on here can.

    • @hayneshvac2
      @hayneshvac2 Před 6 měsíci +2

      The biggest issue is washing out the cylinders. As the piston travels in the cylinder, oil is flung up by the connecting rods and the cylinder is coated by the piston oil rings. Ether can wash this oil from the piston walls thus leading to lower compression, damage to the piston rings, as well as to the piston itself. When starting an engine that has been sitting it is recommended to either pull the spark plugs and soak the cylinders in some sort of lubricant like marvel mystery oil, or simply engine oil, or use 2 cycle oil down the carb for the start up to help lubricate the piston walls.

      @@hayneshvac2 im well aware of how ether works. Im also well aware of the lubricant mixed with modern ether, once again i provide you with 10 years of Ziptiesnbiasplies spraying ungodly amounts of ether into shit and causing no real lasting harm for visual representation. When i need to know the effects of ether on an HVAC system i will gladly come consult you for your opinion, however after pulling wrenches in the frozen wasteland that is canada for years im gonna keep partying with ether cause it works and the oems wouldnt have stuck fire extinguisher size cans of the stuff all over our gear with a button on the dash if it really was that much of a problem

    It is weird that the engine is orange, in 72 Chysler went to the corporate blue on all their engines. That engine for sure has been out of there, it may be an earlier 440 that is in that car. In 1972 the 440 came with the Carter Thermoquad carburetor, and that car seems to have an Edelbrock carb on it, which is nothing strange. Now, what is strange is that if the car had the original Thermoquad intake manifold which had a spreadbore bolt pattern, the Edelbrock carb would have needed an adapter spacer to mount it to it and there is no spacer there it is mounted directly to the intake. It is very possible that you have an earlier 440 in there.

    • @DieselRanchYT
      @DieselRanchYT  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Thank you for this comment! As far as I'm aware, the engine was never swapped. The man I bought it from was the original civilian owner, so if it was swapped, it was done while in Police service within the first year or 2 of its life. Do you think that might be something that the police package did differently than the civilian builds?
      Also, I know the carb had been swapped, back in the 90s I believe, to a rebuilt unit. So it may have had a carter thermo quad there originally. I'm not sure.

  • @willthetrill4849
    @willthetrill4849 Před 6 měsíci +3

    I think that 440 is an HP engine. Only thing that makes sense to why it’s so equipped is because it was a police car. I’m not a mopar guy so I don’t know for sure. As of restoration, I’m very picky when it comes to that. I would make sure the car is exactly the way it came out of the factory. If I had this car, I’d paint it back to it’s original blue. Old cars getting restomodded bothers me

    • @hayneshvac2
      @hayneshvac2 Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yes this is not only a 440 HP, but a police 440 HP which means it has been balanced and blue printed, and may possibly have a higher compression than the standard HP 440. As for the color, some states were picky and would force you to change the color of the car so that it could not be mistaken. Personally I feel like this was a ploy so that you wouldn't get a free pass by accident...lol

    I had one of these cars this exact color, unfortunately it got totaled whilst driving in the snow. Mine had the hide away head lights. The 440 police package is a very coveted engine. You've got yourself a rare find there. The rod you were referring to is simply a fuel pump rod. Once you get this car done, I can say that these cars handle well, and are an absolute joy to drive. Be cautious of changing the transmission fluid. As long as you only change what's in the pan along with the filter, it should be fine, but I would avoid a full flush. As far as the suspension goes, it should be very unique, and if it can be kept, it would be a good idea. Police cars had special suspension as well as stronger frames in many cases. I would assume that there aren't many left with the police options. I hope you enjoy this unique find for years to come. Great video, I will be following the progress. Thank you for sharing. Also be careful free revving the engine, mainly opening the 4 barrels. Chrysler engines were known for having soft cams, and this could end in rounding off the cam lobes. Most commonly the rear lobes are the most at stake. Definitely get an oil change ASAP for preservation.

    I like the car. I would leave it as it is or restore it to blue when the time comes.
    I , uh, feel the idea of painting the bumpers black and the other things is really not a good one. The distinctive double loop bumper on the front and the tapered chrome massive bumper on the rear are things to be treasured. Another you tuber painted the big loop bumper on a 72 Satellite black and painted the rest of the car a satin black and it was hideous and tragic.

    • @DieselRanchYT
      @DieselRanchYT  Před 5 měsíci

      The plan is to paint the body a gunmetal grey metallic, and there's some experimentation going on with painting the bumpers and all chrome accent/trim pieces a black chrome. Which is a black base with a chrome coat/finish. It'll still be reflective, but it'll be dark while still having the same chrome characteristics.
