- I need a break from real vintage watches. Too much trouble in the last years and so i'd like to present you some new or at least newer watches, which have the vintage spirit, but not all those issues.
In this video you find the brands Baltic, Tissot and Oris.
Tim your videos are ALWAYS excellent both in terms of style & substance! I'd have your Zenith black dial chronograph over these but that is my taste. Keep up the strong work👍
Absolutely the most interesting and engaging SOTC video I have seen from any of a dozen channels!
Really loved the outtro too👍.
You deserve a Zenith in your collection, I think...
Thanks for watching! I had a Primero but I sold it during an attack of insanity 😉
Hi just been watching your channel for the last few days and have really enjoyed it have a good new year and I'll keep watching next year cheers bill from the uk
Thanks Bill, happy New Year for you too.
Articulated lugs on the Tissot. Nice feature considering the size of the case. The old Oris is nice. I like traditional sizes more than than what you see today. Less chance of smashing it into something.
Happy new year; keep up the good work.
Hope you have a happy and prosperous new year. I'm looking foward to learning more from your show.
Another great video. Always wanted an Oris pointer. I'll start my search for a good deal. Thanks again
I really enjoyed your review of the Baltic. Yes the retail price is a bit salty to say the least. Great idea putting together this 3 piece newer vintage-inspired collection. All really classy pieces 👍. Cheers
Happy New Year Tim. I hope 2019 is a great year for you, your channel, and of course jazz. Cheers
Excellent video, I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I’ve just subscribed to your channel as a result. I’m trying to build up my own vintage inspired collection, focussed around reissued watches. So far I have a Tissot Visodate, Certina DSPH200 and a Hamilton Khaki manual wind. I’ll be looking to add a watch from Longines Heritage range next year.
just discovered this channel !? love the passion ...the character ...the detail . Excellent !
I couldn't agree with you more...get vintage incentive with no hassle...Blessings to you for new year
that Oris, what a beauty.. I'm trying to find one with that exact dial, but I'm having a hard time doing so, ebay doesn't seem to have one. Thanks for the video, just subscribed.
The Pointer Date is one of the very few watches that Oris makes that’s worth anything. They sell many, many hideous and quirky watches.
Schöne Uhr, vielleicht sollte ich auch mal eine versuchen 👍. Auf jedem Fall, danke für die Vorstellung.
Das mit den Rechnungen kommt mir bekannt vor. 😉
I fully understand your pain with vintage watches. Some advices to reduce the pain are 1) get vintage without complications eg chronograph etc 2) have a good relationship with a good watchmaker, often some issues can be easily fix quickly and my watchmaker usually dont charge me 3) Dont wear the vintage watches daily. For me, I wear them only on Friday or weekends or special events. This minimise wear & tear.
My relationship to watchmakers is really deep, i can ensure you that :-D But you're right with the complications. Only on Friday, hmmm ... I see the point, but i'm not happy with that. I'd like to wear every watch like it was an everyday watch. That's why i'm right now enjoying this new "old" watches.
@@CasebackWatches Indeed these vintage inspired watches are good alternatives. I enjoy them too especially those which the real McCoy cost obscence money eg vintage Rolex sub, Daytonas etc...
I never understood those single contrasting stitches on rustic watchbands either. Adduces the same reaction I get to a tag sticking out of the back of a t shirt collar
The swing or articulated lugs on the Tissot are a feature that was used in the Thirties by Rolex for one of their very similar rectangular watches. I've also seen them on a Longines of the time. I assume that they are not much used because of the added risk of breakage involved in doubling the number of pivot points between case and strap. A repair would involve rather more than just replacing a spring bar.
Tim always reminds me of "deputy Kovacs" played by actor Jeff Goldblum in the movie "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
Great movie! And i liked nearly every character in it. Especially Jopling, played by Willem Dafoe.
Happy New Year Tim: As always I enjoyed your video. I've bought several of these Seagull chronograph movements in the past. Most do very well. Invicta even made some models using this movement and of course the almost famous Seagull 1963. These movements are inexpensive so if they go bad a replacement for it should be about $200. Not bad for a movement that is a Venus 175 made from the exact machinery bought from the Swiss by the Chinese Government back in 1962 or so.
Column wheel chronograph as opposed to a leaver as in the 7750 eta movments great video as always have a good new year
Hi Tim. Great idea for this vid. Not really a fan of the Baltic but I'd go for the other two. Especially the Tissot. Keep up the good work.
Very nice suggestions! The vintage Tissot is lovely (and named after my city). After the comment about modern Oris, i'm curious to know your opinion on the Oris Divers 65 Heritage. Lots of watch geek really felt in love with it (myself included). Keep up the awesome videos!
The diver is a really cool watch! But it's not the typical modern Oris i think.
Thanks for the support!
I also just remembered; I'm sure you are already aware, that Dan Henry do a gorgeous, vintage inspired, mechanical diver with and internal rotating bezel. I think it's worth a look at 270USD for a 200m dive watch 😀
Have a good New Year!
Thanks, i wasn't aware that they produce mechanical watches. I thought it's all quartz. Happy New Year to you too!
Love your videos-would like to see one on your favorite watches for women-vintage or new! As a side note: I rarely have problems with my vintage Hamilton’s and I have quite a few
Very good idea. I'm far away from being an expert for women's watches, but i think i can contribute one or two decent models. So please stay tuned and thanks for the kind words.
Congrats Tim on such a good year almost 4k now! Happy New Year.
Isn't that great? I've never expected to reach that region in the first year. Happy New Year and thanks for the support!
Great, hmm maybe. But deserved, 100% yes. :-)
The old Tissot looks so much nicer than the modern one. I'm glad that Tissot using it on their heritages models. (Wearing a Tissot Heritage 1936 myself.)
Great video. Do you still have a second Pointer Date? If so, would you ever part with it? I am obsessed with the thought of acquiring the same model but can’t find it anywhere.
Never. It's a keeper ;-)
Hiya.I have some experience with Chinese movements now and overall they are getting very good. They even make Torbions which cost thousands elsewhere. How long they last is yet to be decided but watch their space I guess. The better ones are easily regulated to very tight tolerances! Vintage scares me because some of father's pieces only a few years old became money pits potentially so he left them as dead.Cheers,Len.UK.
Hi....have a look at William L vintage style watches....; I dont like too much the idea of re-writing the past in a low-bracket way but they are not too bad....
That's a "hinge lug" in US. Check out DeBethune, for modern day cases with hinged lugs.
Es freut mich sehr, dich auf CZcams zu sehen. Ich hoffe, dass Sie weiterhin mehr Videos zu machen. Grüße aus großbritannien
Danke schön, werde ich machen. Viele Grüße!
Nice video. However and this is a matter of taste with a more sporty look, but I think that the Oris Diver Sixty-Five and the Oris Big Crown Pointer date November or bronze edition are very good looking. And also very well made with great finitions.
Yes, maybe i was too strict. The 65 is in fact a really good looking watch, also the bronze. But they are between some rather inferior pieces imho.
YOU'RE ALWAYS POLISHED ! SHARP DRESSER 💥👍🏼
Ever seen the «New Compax » model 884.820/9150 of 1997 ?
Equiped with à UG 84 (=Lemania 1873)
Dare I say, the vintage trouble is what's the selling point for a vintage watch for me. The idea of keeping an old thing alive instead of buying a new thing that pretends to be something else than what it is.
Well said. I think a lot of people think like that.
The Baltic has a very similar look to the Seagull 1963.
You're right, very similar. Imho the baltic has the better size though.
@@CasebackWatches There are many variants of the Seagull 1963. They come in 38mm & 42mm. The 38mm has both acrylic and sapphire version.
Ok, thanks, interesting, i didn't know that.
HKED ("Hong Kong Ed") also does a version of this chronograph occasionally, with new dials and so on. www.hkedwatches.com/collections.
It also has the same movement.
Nice older Oris & you're 100% correct on their modern watches. Thanks for the videos & happy New Year to you!
These 80s and even 90s watches with classic appeal are the ones to find now, especially in excellent condition. They are the ‘youngtimers’ literally, to take an auto expression.
When you think that the Hamilton Intramatic is selling for over £1500 the Baltic looks like a bargain
Yes, but i think Hamilton offers a bit more quality. Just my feeling, but i was super happy with Hamiltons.
Yes, the texture and colour of the strap on the Lisboa works perfectly. A question, when you wind the Lisboa, is there any springing back on each wind?
A tiny one, barely noticable. But i had this springing back with other watches. Do you think it's a problem?
It's not a problem in the sense of a fault. From my limited knowledge, many movements have that spring back to let a little energy out of the spring to reduce chances of overwinding, or something like that. It seems that higher end mechanical movements can be made without that need. For example, you notice it on a Nomos Alpha, but not a Nomos DUW caliber. @@CasebackWatches
Welcome to the club. Watchmaker will eat you alive. Tissots vintage are underrated. Makes them a great buy
nice price beautiful watch.
My solution to vintage troubles was to learn how to fix/service them
where did you learn? and did you buy any tools? thank you!
@@alfonsomdt I learned from doing for the most part. but I bought a ton of tools over a period of time. Everytime I did some job or service that was a pain in the ass i would think to myself ' there's gotta be a better way'. So I would dig around the internet, CZcams or anywhere else i could think of. couple of things i still dont have because of cost. For the most part simple break down, clean, reassemble can be done well by hand. I am still learning now to become a Watchmaker. Other than literally creating cases from scratch or developing new movements on CAD ive found that a good rotary tool,(dremel type) can handle almost any problems that come up with an existing watch. along with hand files and good screw drivers. As well as good eye loupes. Iam not at a level where i could manufacture missing or broken parts from old models but the internet is full of places you could buy full movements or just a pallet fork and anything in between
@@styx4947 wow thank you so much. I do need to get better screwdrivers, but other than that, i think I'm ready to try difficult things(i have bought a couple of boxes full of old mechanical watches, here, Argentina, is more difficult to find tools than watches to work with). If you think of a specific tool, please feel free to tell me!! thank you again
i keep looking at that strat at the back
Is it possible you shere the link or name of that herzog strap that is on Tisso? It looks great
Sorry, don‘t find it anymore. Bought it somewhere on ebay.
Brilliant... I also am if a love affair with the Baltic...
V Cool watches. GREAT style.
Interesting video . Can you say where one can buy herzog straps? They look lovely. I agree about the period incorrect single stitching on straps. Do you have any recommendations for good watch forums beyond say watchuseek? thanks
I've bought them on Ebay. Forum? Not really. I only use watchuseek and the Uhrforum, which is only in German.
We as watche guys are weird hahaha 16:38 , Good video Tim !!
Actually own the blue gilt Baltic with a closed caseback. Wife has stolen it for herself lol. What do u think of the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in Red?
Could be a good watch, but imho too big. 40 mm, right?
It’s called “Swing Lugs” :)
Is there a model number for the oris watch?
Yes, it's a 7461.
Thank you!
I just saw an ad for a mobile casino slots phone game and the background music sounded like duke and dukies
Casino? The guys will like that 😉
I love articulated lugs. Not only do they make a larger watch fit the wrist better, they make the case more visually interesting!
I love the Oris
It's called a hinge lug
See you next year.
That Tissot was looking good until I saw it on your wrist. A bit too large.
Anyone looking for the vintage look without the vintage headache should research Dan Henry. I have his 1964 Gran Turismo and it's terrific.
Thanks, several people said this. I think i have to check them out one day.
please give your contacts thank you
Do YoU sTiLl HaVe ThE bIcOmPaX? Is It ReAlLy SoLd?!😁
No, was just a trick to keep attention up ;-)
BALTIC NO THANKS!
Great video... topic near and dear to me, hopefully you can explore it further in later videos. Microbrands seem to lead the way here, but bigger brands lately seem to be joining in more. Certina's DS PH200M reissue, for example. Wonder your opinion of Timex Marlin reissue, with authentic vintage style at a reasonable price. Einen guten Rutsch!
Certina is definitely on my list. They make some interesting pieces.
See you the next year
