- In memory of Vern Savko: rock-store.com/about/
Phil Gaimon and rock star Mike Dimkich of Bad Religion are on Mulholland Drive to take in a bit of the quieter parts of LA cycling. Surrounded by the city, the Rock Store segment of Mulholland Drive is known to have some of the best pedestrian and cycling-only paved sections in all of LA. Phil challenges Mike to a timed race and shares some background on the history and importance of Rock Store...where no rocks can be purchased.
*No rock stores or rock stars were harmed in the making of this episode

I’m a touring musician and it was such a joy watching this episode! I’ve been riding road bikes for more than a decade now but because of the pandemic and the associated loss of work in the entertainment industry, I’ve been able to ride a lot more! Back when tours were a thing I’ve always wondered what it would be like to travel with a bike on the tour bus but sadly never been able to make that happen. It’s amazing seeing musician riders and I would love to start or be part of a musician cycling community one day once it’s safe to get back together! Thank you for the wonderful content
Fantastic interview, Phil!
The Rock Store segment challenge is such a good idea. Sure, some other show does something similar, but this is still a great concept. Can't wait to see where it goes.
More musicians and entertainers who ride please!!! 😀
One of my favorite bands
Perfect episode. Totally enjoyed the ride.
Great stuff. Enjoyed it as always.
Wasn’t sure what I was subscribing to at first but this channel is awesome.
Love watching these shows, especially when it’s grey and wet here in England.
That man is classy. Rocking a Serotta Ottrott. I had a Legend Ti 15 years ago and always loved the looks of the Ottrott and IF carbon/Ti mixed frames.
Great video
About 15 years ago, I remember doing a few group rides with the artist that did the classic Bad Religion album covers.
This was good
Súper !!!
Phil, the Rock Store is THE motorcycle stop in So Cal. Many, many weekend rides end up there.
Hell Yass I still got a Look KG481 JaJa Special and Soo Smooth
Just so no one gets an unexpected surprise, Mulholland Dr., from Hollywood (at Cahuenga Blvd.), all the way to Mulholland Hwy and then on to PCH in Malibu is 53 miles, not 35 as you mention in the video.
That was cool ❤️ Did they ever race that route in any Amgen/Tour of California’s?
@@PREEMTV OH okay! Thanks! Sounds like an exciting stage: 1. Mark Cavendish 2. John Degenkolb 3 Peter Sagan ❤️
The final stage in May 2010 was one of the best bike races ever. Michael Rogers, Dave Zabriskie and Levi Leipheimer were separated by just a couple seconds and they did 4 climbs of Rock Store and by the last lap those 3 were alone and about 45 second behind the lead group, which they could not let go or else lose the GC. All 3 attacked each other over and over but Rogers held on. Was an incredible day of racing.
How do I get featured for ride of the week?
so that was fu$king awesome. Being an old OC punk kid and Watching Dimkich was excellent. I never know he was an endurance dude.
Such a great climb with no motorcycles or cars. I hope they never fix it.
A hill climb open to cyclists only is unbelievable, lucky LA people
Love the Rock Store segment leaderboard idea but it might be "more fair" to people to make it a 2-5 minute segment rather than a 10-20 minute segment. And then do a play by play voice over the whole thing to hype it up.
Good show, no! on the ugly bar bag
I agree, but saddle bags look even worse :(
Mike has a better bike than you. Serotta, duh.
Better bike, really? Are you being serious? Some of you roadies are so hung up on equipment, it's a bloody shame. The latest and greatest is nice but performance and results come down to rider attributes. BTW Serotta (duh). Are beautifully crafted steel frames, can't say they're better. Carbon is the material of choice these days. Bottom line riders in Phil's league will kick my ass riding a beach cruiser.
@@andrewsandoz8005 obviously you missed the humor. It was meant as a joke.
As far as 'better', it is a subjective term. And a hand-made, custom bike created by a skilled craftsman will always be 'better' (more desirable to some) than a mass-produced one made by robots.
Have a great day and a wonderful ride, no matter what you ride.
Mike needs to adjust the straps on his helmet. They are WAY too loose.
