Love, Claudio & The Doctor Mix Team - Hudba
I love DrMix...... His heart is still in the 80’s.
And he is also a top singer ;))
Me too! I love Queen's music and all that!
mine went back in time to the 80's
It all went downhill after the 80s. Except EDM! The 90s had the best electronica!
mine's still there too
A remake of Haddaway's What Is Love would be interesting...
Yes, very good.
has to be done!
What a banger! 🍻 Yes, please recreate Haddaway’s What Is Love 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Yes please Dr Mix, what is love needs to be done 👍👍
Baby dont hurt me
5:17 omfg, the warmth of this synth is absolutelty marvelous. Really wish we could get such depth and fatness from vst’s too
It reminded me of a Rush song "The Camera Eye" on the album moving pictures 1981!! Sounds really close.
It's mono but Monark has actual heart disease it's so phat.
Check out UVI Waverunner. It may be what you're looking for:
www.uvi.net/en/vintage-corner/waverunner.html#instruments
We've legit sold about half of our studio's synths because of UVI. They deep sample the hardware (museum quality pieces and restorations of ultra rare/expensive synths) into massive libraries (many are 5 to 35+ GB in size), then combine those with their UVI Engine (which is in both the free UVI Workstation as well as the _uncannily_ deep Falcon II synth/sampler). If I remember right, the UVI PX V8 is @Doctor Mix's hardware Voyetra 8, and they use a lot of RetroSound's rare/restored gear, as well.
They not only sample the stock presets from hardware, but also the raw _root_ sound sources (sine wave, square wave, PCM files, etc) from the hardware of which a respective synth's stock presets are composed. It's a blank slate for creating new patches from the ground up. People that dismiss UVI stuff as a preset "ROMpler" don't know what they're talking about. It's so much more than that and completely changed our workflow.
Anyway, back to the synth in question... does Waverunner have the exact knob layout of a PPG? Not necessarily, and I'm not trying to say that it's a knob for knob re-creation like Behringer is doing with their reissues, but it _is_ the real, raw, base _sounds_ from the hardware and combined with UVI Engine's filters/controls, you can do pretty well exactly what the hardware can do, and in many cases, even *more* than what the hardware is capable of doing, especially if using within Falcon II.
To be clear, I/we love analog and digital hardware synths... they are special, and having it in the room is indeed very cool (or literally *hot* depending on the synth! lol), but when it comes down to that vs studio space, budget considerations, routine maintenance, consisitent tuning issues, settings recall, mobility, time/speed/ease of use, and so on, UVI stuff is probably your best option.
Man, that sounded way too much like a commercial. lol. We're just really into it.
I think UVI sums it up well in their oft said slogan... "It sounds like the hardware because it _is_ the hardware."
We agree. Hope this info helps!
imagineRecordings / imagineAudio thanks a bunch! Can i only buy the waverunner 2.3? Or do i need to buy the whole bundle
Hi @@red7332! I believe Waverunner is only sold as a bundle for all 7 instruments. My favorites from that collection are the 2.0 and 360, but all are good depending on the situation.
Since you're interested in Waverunner I should mention that 2 or 3 times a year, UVI has a sale on Vintage Vault, which includes pretty much every classic synth/drum machine they make (Waverunner is in VV also), so if you don't need it right away, waiting til a sale might be the better way to go. Typically, when VV is on sale it's $399. Normally it's $599, but even at that price it's an absolute bargain for how much content is in it. There's about 70 instruments in VV now, I think. I'd recommend signing up to their email list to get all their sale/deal/new updates. They don't spam.
We've been using VV2 (and upgraded to VV3 for $29...yep, twenty-nine. lol) for a little over 2 years now, and have been using Falcon for about 1.5 years. Have barely scratched the surface of their capabilities, and that's with near daily use. Discovering and creating new sounds everyday is part of what has made it so fun and has really recharged the creative batteries!
Hope this helps some!
Now someone should rectreate the music video. That would be hell of a project. :>
There have been quite a few parody recreations. Family Guy being the main one I remember.
Weezer did a really good video cover!

Claudio's love of 80s electronic music is infectious. He's having such a great time doing this and it makes it really fun to watch
Always a good day When Doctor mix drops a new song/video ! Keep it up brother!
5:17 -- _I close my eyes at the overwhelmingly rich soundscape. With each change in the harmony, I feel a new, euphoric feeling completely surpassing anything my imagination can conjure up. The clouds of melancholy and nostalgia run into each other, their characteristics becoming inseparably intertwined. At once, the sonic and spiritual work together to lull me into--_
*PHATNESS!*
Eyyyy nice
idk why, but that melody at 6:53 is so memorizing! sounds like a startup sound for a fire ass game system or something lol.
maybe you can recreate "you spin me round"(like a record)
NOICE
PPG is unique, reminds me miami vice's jam hammer sounds...80's nostalgia.
Yeah Doctor Mix, do Jan Hammer Crocketts Theme :)
Also used heavily on “Grace Under Pressure” by Rush...

Doctor Mix yes please!
The intro chord synth if im not mistaken is C#m position
Actually it's a Bm9
@@haritodecebolla i think no..if you're doin Bm9 basically it still sounds like F#m with B in it..🙂
@@haritodecebolla i'm agree with you, but that is not the chord that DoctorMix plays
I don't have a keyboard nearby so no idea what the key is, but I would absolutely swear the chord was minor sus2. To me it's unmistakable. It could not possibly be any other chord. Why is no one else hearing this?
I don’t know chords etc. but one note does seem off to me.
Very nice cover man !
Originaly, the lead part was a Juno 60 layered with a DX7, and the pad was a prophet 5, the bass was the famous DX7 synth bass. The bells sounds were from PPG wave and the lindrum for percus............................................... so you are very close to the truth !!!
PS : sorry for my poor english...
The MODX is the DX7 modified for today with 88 operators and effects added. I have one, love it.
Are those the original sounds for this song?
@@TechGently 8 operators, 88 algorithms ;-)
@@sauermusicDE Ooops lol you're right, 8 Operators and 88 Algorithms
How do you know
Love dr mix! I was sad to see though that this episode was all presets, I love when you show us how you achieve the sounds from scratch using the controls!
most are from the DX7

Is that a real track by the way?
Do you happen to know the name of that sound? Thanks!
waow
Such warmth and depth, just amazing
It’s known as the Lick
I knew it sounded familiar! At first I was think computer start up sound.
I did a cover of this for a friend today. Played the whole song over. Doing this over tapped into the Synthwave stuff I've been doing. Love your videos
I don’t know if you have yet, but you really should do “Popcorn”
Which version? :-)
Probably the version most known. Most people haven’t heard or even know there was an original version
@@hehawkiller
yes right.
For very long time i knew only the hot butter version, the big hit in the beginning in 1972 ( the first instrumental synth hit for me ) , and the popping with the mouth we were making.
It is only with internet and some comments that i discovered the original version, and the fact that there was a lot of versions after the hit of 1972, including one version by a young musician unknown to the great public at this time called Jean-Michel Jarre.
@@jean-louispech4921 Hot Butter of course
Hello, love your channel man!!!!!!
Where can I find the Linn Drum VST????????
Don't forget the song You spin me around-Dead or Alive.............
Thank you.
I was waiting for the bridge part where the synth rises and falls rapidly but you didn't do it. Still enjoyed it anyway, just need you to cover some Depeche Mode soon.⚒⛓📢👑🌹⚜✋
I think they only got like an hour or so at the reactor. I've seen 8-bit keys' video already so I know there wasn't much time.
Where can we find the complete mix of this number? Damm good robot voice
Omg why have I not discovered this guy til like 20 minutes ago😢😢😢
I am a complete 80s child and I absolutely LOOOOVE this song!! Excellent job Doc👌👌

Yes fade to grey what a track that is. Would love to see that
This is what music is about, having fun

I always love watching classic songs remade in similar fashion to how they were originally recorded. Is there some kind of database somewhere that keeps records of what gear was used to make famous songs?
Hmmm I don’t know of any
Hi. I'm new to the channel and enjoy it very much. Have you rebuilt the theme music for knight rider? That'll be cool.
I’m considering doing that!
Holy crap! Yes! Knightrider is the best TV theme song ever ... Airwolf is pretty cool also.
6:26 I love Doctor Mix but that's definitely not the right chord lol
Yeah IKR, every time he played that it messed with my Anxiety / OCD 😬
Dmaj7 bro
he just didn't have enough keys i guess it's clearly down some octaves
Yes, absolutely NO. 😃
Awesome, beautiful remix. I love 80 music.
Cool!
I find it interesting how they really got the best out of the 3 different synths they used. Each tone or patch is really amazing on its own different way. They wouldn't have been able to get such contrasting rich colors using only one machine.
I know its not a pro synth but I would love to hear what you can do with a Yamaha DJX aka PSR-D1 or any of the DJX's?
Du bist noch in Deutschland? 🤔
Good luck Claudio 👍 💪
Nice song to recreate. Next airwolf? 🤔
You need to do a version of the Doctor Who theme
sixstanger00 yes yes yes and a big fucking yes!!! I love that theme!!
Sixstranger00. That would be awesome. Love that theme. Such a good call
awesome stuff as always!
just wondering, could you do a quick overview on how you have your synths set up for cubase and what-not?
Hey Claudio, as always perfect video of and hommage to one of my favorite songs of all time. Another question i have been meaning to ask you, i am currently looking for a reasonably prized keyboard that has a wide array of (vintage) electronic piano sounds. (Preferably Fender Rhodes) Not sure if it might be weighted or be hammer action simulated. Internal amplifier speaker is also one of the options i'm not sure of yet. You have any ideas? What's the best bet?
Bravo Dr Mix #Memories One of the most iconic 80s music tracks and of course ive got to mention the incredible mind blowin video The Album was also for me had one if the Brightest Treble sounds ive ever heard on a pop album 😊 Truly Incredible Thank you Dr Mix you brung my mid teen days flloding back #Inspired 👍👍👍❤80s
This is one of my favorite songs from the 80's. Claudio you totally nailed it, gratitude from America 🇺🇸.
You know how to kickstart my weekend! And I'm now stuck with this song for the next few days - TGIF! 😂
Hi, I love your channel but I'm new to synths. when I watch you lay down multiple tracks you play midi into your DAW, but then lay down a new track with different synth settings. Is this possible because of the Yamaha synth you are using here...does it save presents somehow? I'm working with an analog synth and can't figure out how to multitrack with different synth settings. Thanks for any help.
Well then, I've suggested a few songs before, but I guess a really good classic would be...
"Felix - Don't you want me"
Like this up, if you agree :)
Do you have a single sister? A wanna by your brother in law 😁😂🤣
Hahahaha!!!!!!!
Might spent more time with the brother in law than with the sister
Great, now you're going to have me listening exclusively to the bass the next few times I hear this song.
Gershon Kingsley's original popcorn is fifty years old this year. It would be great to see you recreate that original melody that no cover has ever replicated properly!
It's good, but it's not right! Lol. I really love this song and I have the original instrumental track which I've listened to many many times so I'm familiar with all the different synths and this recreation is missing quite a few sounds. It's missing the DX7 flute sound, the bell like pad (it plays through the chorus, not just the intro) and there's even a guitar strumming throughout as well. Fair enough if this was just a casual vid. The Thriller recreation was the best you ever did. That was 100% spot on.
Класс. Хоть и мало знаю английский, но всё равно понимаю. Продолжай и дальше радовать такими видео.

The vocoder greetings at the end made me wanna do a standing ovation. :) Seriously, this is so cool and sounds so pleasantly harmonious that you may put it at the end of all new videos. :)

That PPG Wave (?) part for the introduction didn't really work (as it did not sound anything like the original) but the rest is great! Well done and please keep up the good work.
Yeah, I think you can get that by MIDIing a DX7 and a Juno-60.
Correction, I have heard somewhat similar sounds from a Juno-60
I love watching you work! you are a 21st Century Mozart with a synthesizer.
Isn't the PPG chord at the beginning of the original song Bm9? Why did you play a C♯m7 on the PPG, and why did it sound half a step flat?

hello what is the routing to get the voice toplay with chords like you did in the end ? what you using please ? thx a lot !
I'm a guitarist who was looking for drum machines, found Doctor Mix's MC-707 videos, and am now in a synthesizer rabbit hole. Thanks Doctor Mix!
Great to hear you dicect these masterpieces. But best of all is hearing you recreate the old synth sound by tweaking a standard synth into a classic sound! Its a shame you use a preprogrammed sound for the lead, I would have loved to see/hear/follow you recreate it from scratch. Otherwise; love the channel!
Those 5 who disliked this vid, has no taste of good old '80 sound..
When you like what everybody likes you have no taste.
The genuinly happy look on your face when you play is contagious...
"And we have Lift Off!!"... haha, I just love your enthusiasm!

Well done Dr.Mix! A question: Is the Juno patch a preset on the Roland System 8? If not, could you share the settings for that patch? Thanks!
Use the voice modulator to say "mmm whatcha say"
A little research would have revealed that they recorded the song on a Roland JUNO-60. But, whatever.
Inside the Casino did you even pay attention to the whole video?
He says the original sound was a Juno. @7:10
"Et voilà ! " ^^
Thank for this video
"Audio" is in his name.

Yikes, this one's definitely reaching, especially with the intro chord
Great performance and WOW 😮 the Roland System 8 really does the job perfectly! The high octave arpeggio sound in the beginning of the song, can’t it be found in the Roland synth? Or maybe use the same preset as the main melody lead sound.
Such a lovely song. Very poppy, catchy, but also beautiful in its melodies and chording. And the joy from Dr mix that works every time.
There is a very interesting interview on their official website where the exact processed of the recording is explained. The producer heavily relied on a Fairlight Synclavier that replayed almost every element
Synclavier was only used on 1st version of this song the BBC MICRO COMPUTER was used to sequence the famous version
There is no such thing as a Fairlight Synclavier. They are made by different companies. One American, the other Australian.
I’d have used that mic for the high c too. Lol. Amazing video as always doc 👍👍
Awesome! That's a huge classic! 😃

While it may not be totally correct. The recreation of this classic sounded pretty awesome! Cool voice at the end too.
Hi dear
