I didn't even consider 10/6. I spent all my time debating whether to hit or not. Once I determined that hitting wasn't giving up enough winning chances for the gammon gain, I thought 5/1 was clear.
hi mochy - i think another good thing about the switch is that even 'non covers' like 21, 11 can pre-clear the 6 to cover; and a non-cover like 62 or 63 can just lift the blot. thanks for this really cool video
Super video and position. I think I might have found 9/5 after hitting to get a few more covers, but 5/1 is hard to find, even though it’s actually logical after hearing SGM Mochy’s explanation.
Damnation…very interesting, informative…and best of all it makes sense (is the right move). Thanks for adding an extra “awareness” factor to my future backgammon plays/potential plays.
Great video. I’ve just returned to BG after many many years away. Playing online but I used to play in live competitions. I have realised my natural game is so fearful at the end. This was brilliant information for me. Thank you so much. We used to have funny sayings in our competition in Canberra, Australia- on a bad opening roll “what’s the story, slot for glory” (after Oasis’ Morning Glory song)- to slot in the home board.
Thank you Mochy for sharing your very nice analysis. If the opponent fails to roll a 5, there are 27 numbers that cover the blot and make a close out (Any rool with 4 or 5, plus 61 31 32 and 22). I would like to mention something more. From the nine numbers that can't make the close out, (62, 63, 66, 33, 21, 11) only with 66 we have to leave a blot for one more roll, while with the other eight we may move the blot from 5 to safe position leaving no direct hit..
Wow- interesting! We are so focused on this like "holy" golden point that it doesn't even cross our mind yet the solution is obvious! This once again shows the complexity of this game which makes it never boring. We can learn here forever and ever.... Thanks for sharing Mochy🤓
So happy that I found it - but tbh, ONLY found it because the video title strongly suggested the answer was not what the unwary would expect. Thanks, Mochy!
Its crazy, as soon as you said 51 my brain got really excited. You can see right away its much better as soon as you move the piece. Its weird how an "unnatural play" is almost just completely removed from thought over the board.
The quiz factor must have helped as I got this correct. After thinking about this, I thought the score was not a factor and for money the solution is still the same.
5/1 was only reasonable after you said "hitting is corect" and because of the name of the video. That's how unnatural it is. But the more you look at it the more it makes sense, right? i mean if you're gonna leave a blot behind, then you might as well choose the blot with most ways to be covered assuming you don't get hit. And then again, the "what if" analysis for getting hit with best play was an eye opener. I do have a question: If you were not trailing 6-7 in a race to 9, and if you only needed one point to win a money match, does XG gammon still recommend this play? or does it go for 9/7 9/5?

Love these kinds of videos, thanks Mochy
Ty I have got so many positive feedbacks. Maybe I will do it again🎉
I like your simple and humble way of breaking things down. please post more often!
I am happy to find this gold. Just like a kid find a new toy :)
Great. Thank you for sharing, Mochy.

Wow, what a nice soultion for this problem. Hope i can remeber this when i need to. Thank you for share this position. Please more of this content.
Me too! I hope I remember next time I see this sort of position 😂
When you first showed the "correct" move, I literally threw my hands up and shouted, "why???" but now it all makes sense haha
Very good.

Thank you sir, always a pleasure to watch & learn from you.

Yes all makes sense after a thought. But why not I couldn’t find it over the board 😢

Wow super amazing dear Mochy! Thanks for sharing. ⚘️
That's why you are a champion... When I saw the positions I immediately thought about playing safe🤣

More of this. Thank you
I definitely missed it as well, I was thinking move both checkers off the 5 point. Thanks for sharing Mochy!
That was also my initial thought.. We have cubed him and are still in the race..
Yeah but that’s too passive at this score we should try and go for the gammon while we have the chance. Kind of all or nothing position
Yes you win more games by playing safe, but the hit play gives you Gammon and that is the killer.
@@bgmochy Thx for your reply. How many % do we have for a Gammon in that position? 25/30%?
@@andersnielsen6044 With the best play 26.7%, with the safe play 0.4%

Me too...I didn't think of switching!
Thanks Mochy and all the best from Germany

Congrats! Yeah the title gives a lot of clue - but it’s ok. Even with Quiz Factor many experts could not find the best play.

I enjoyed it Mochy. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Ed for always watching!
Wow ! Indeed not easy to find.. I love these kind of puzzles, if you wish to put more of them 😊
Yeah puzzle 😂 I like too. I’ll post more
I have instantly found the right move.
You showed me this position in New York, and I got the right play. So "nobody" isn't true!!!!
Thanks very much. 🙏🏽
Thank you 🙏
Thank you.
Stunning steady cam videography. 😅
Lovely checkers as well on that board)
Keen observation. He wasn't just using a tripod.
I thank to a kind guy who held a camera professionally 😂
Interesting one, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching, and take time to say thank you!
Very cool bot move. Thanks for sharing Mochy
Thanks. Yes few human could find it. Not me 😢
Thank you for this video.
Thanks. Did you get this right ?
@@bgmochy I saw it here, but curious if I would have seen/played it in a game; The title makes me look at less obvious moves.
Thanks
A good rule says: Always look at the switching plays, and here it is correct to switch, that's amazing
I should remember that rule. 😢
No hit for money or DMP; point shift at GG.
Really cool po, moch
Very nice position and tough to find under pressure ATS with your mind running like the Hyperloop)
The hard part is I was satisfied with finding the hit being correct, and didn’t spend time on how I should hit 😢
Very interesting.
Yes I thought so too 😂
Nice!
Yeps!
The quiz factor must have helped as I got this correct. After thinking about this, I thought the score was not a factor and for money the solution is still the same.
You are right. It still is the best play in money too, with smaller margin. 😮
👍🎲🎲
Hi Mochy,
GNU first offer this position 12/10* 9/5.
Are you looking from XG?
Thanks Mochy. Do you play 5 to 1 if he only had 1 spare checker in the outfield? Presumably he would then have fewer rolls to escape with a 6.
No. Because the only reason to hit is winning gammon. With being him only one checker in the out field makes much less gammon. 😅
I mean I would play safe, not even hit

Why not both from inside? He need 29 to go his side you need 18, he can not run easy also. With this play you have much more chance to win.
Yes you actually win more games by playing safe. However with hit play you could win Gammon. That makes a difference.
How bad of a blunder if you played safe and didn't hit?
I don’t remember the exact equity difference, but it was about 0.1 I guess
I found it quickly.😏😏😏 it's easy🙂
