対戦格闘ゲームの形を変えた「サムライスピリッツ」の続編となる対戦剣術アクション「真サムライスピリッツ」。今回は前作からのキャラクターに4人の新キャラクターを加えた全15人の剣士たちがぶつかり合う。ゲームシステムは前作がベースとなっているが、特殊動作や特徴的だった「怒りシステム」に改良が加えられ、ゲージが満タンになると攻撃力がアップするだけでなく、相手の武器を破壊する強力な技「武器破壊必殺技」が使えるようになっている。また新キャラクターのボイスに千葉麗子を起用したり、各キャラクターに新しい殺陣アクションと挑発ポーズなどの演出面でもパワーアップし、前作同様人気作となった。

Samurai Shodown II was released in October 1994.
This game is known in Japan as "Shin Samurai Spirits - Haohmaru Jigoku Hen" (translates from Japanese as 'True Samurai Spirits - Haohmaru's Incident In Hell').
Kafuin Nicotine (Anglicized as 'Caffiene') is based somewhat on the Ninja Scroll character Dakuan who shares outfit and is armed with similar weapons. The 'papers' that Nicotine throws are called 'o-fuda', which are talismans inscribed with a prayer to endow them with certain powers. Japanese occultism and lore at work.
Neinhalt Sieger's name translates from German as 'non-stop victory'.
Genjuro Kibagami is a huge reference to a Japanese hanafuda deck. Hanafuda is a Japanese card game in which all cards represent a certain flower and time of the year. The hanafuda cards can be seen when Genjuro hits his opponent with special moves. Among the cards seen are wistaria, maple and peony. All cards shown are from an actual hanafuda deck.
Ryuhaku Todo (of AOF) appears in Gen-An's ending.
Pony Canyon / Scitron released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Shin Samurai Spirits - PCCB-00164) on 02/11/1994.

This game came out 25 years ago and still looks amazing.
Neo Geo hardware was amazing for its time. And SNK pushed it to its limits.
Indeed. From SS III onwards they went with a cartoonish look which I disliked. Nothing like the masterpiece that is SS II. Even current games use crap graphics. They all look the same. Street Fighter IV, V; KoF XIV; Killer Instinct and of course, the new SS. They are garbage.
Beautiful game. Charismatic characters, awesome moves, perfect soundtrack and artwork...and the first fighting game to have a woman as a last boss 👍👍👍

その後、数ヶ月、金欠で泣きそうになりましたが( ；∀；)でも家で「真サム」をプレイしまくった日々は本当に今でも最高の思い出です💖(そのわりにはミズキ様に勝てたのは1回だけ(^_^;))因みにプレイキャラは「柳生十兵衞」プレイスタイルは「はっそうはっぱ(漢字忘れた😅)でゴリ押し(o≧▽゜)o」

和狆はこの縛鎖杖撃ハメがあるからCPUクリアは比較的楽なんだけど、無いと辛すぎるのがなんとも。ちなみに対戦では相手の復帰が早いので使えなかったりする。
2Pカラーは黄色か…でもやっぱりノーマルが青なら、ここはシンプルに赤でも良かったと思うんだけどね。ノーマルが赤なら2Pカラーは青の逆バージョン的に。
