I was born in 1959. My pops had me at Bay Meadows by the time I was 6. I have seen them all. Spectacular Bid was the greatest horse of my lifetime. No debating that in my mind. But I had a few other favorites over the years as well. Skip Away is certainly one of them. I loved Free House as well. A gray horse complex..lol. That Breeders Cup was run in 1:59 flat. and remains the fastest of any Classic to date. His Woodward in 98. Against Gentlemen and Free House..hell the whole field is in the hall of fame, was his best. A 134 lbs on his back, and just manhandled that field. Hail the great Skip Away!!

Skip Away was the last of the great handicap horses. Carried weight, shipped all over the country, took on all challengers. They literally don't do careers like that anymore. It was special to see it.
