Congrats !
Tim, Rinni and family, nice going and solid results, looks like a fun race. That cool overcast weather is a big contrast to Kona! As a long-term resident in Hawaii, I’ve been having trouble with bee stings while riding. Thankfully I’ve found a solution, use pump spray lemon eucalyptus liquid repellant (I’ve been using Cutter or Murphy’s) head to toe. Dab this repellant on your scalp face forehead ears because it’s a bit unpleasant if you accidentally spray it in your eyes. Applying this repellant is a bit of a hassle, in a race you would need to do it during T1 after your swim and right before you get on your bike. It’s worth it though, because getting stung will prevent you from focusing on riding fast. Bees may still approach you but they will veer away because lemon eucalyptus repellant is highly offensive to them. You may even receive a bee strike on high-speed downhills but lemon eucalyptus repellant will prevent them from stinging you. I am speaking from experience! Of course I would apply this repellant before going out to train on the bike in Hawaii. Bees here have been terribly impacted by a virus that is causing them to become disoriented, especially in the presence of fast-moving cyclists, whom they perceive as a threat, hence the increased frequency of bee stings on all of the Hawaiian Islands and elsewhere. Btw, I’ve found that DEET-based repellants are totally ineffective against bee stings and will also damage cycling kit.
You guys are a great inspiration
