- A couple of shots of her arrival to the Port of Felixstowe at the start of the video.
As space onboard East bound ships to the Far East from Europe are still at a premium, the Ultra large Majestic Maersk which arrived at Felixstowe on Wednesday 2 days previous with a draught of 13.8 metres from Bremerhaven. While alongside in Felixstowe, dockers have been loading her with UK exports and containers with fresh air inside for the Far East.
Majestic Maersk's agent confirmed a departure time of 14:30 local time, she was ready way before then but as she deep draughted, she was tide restricted and had to wait for the tide window to head out of the harbour to the Sunk via the deep water channel.
The Harwich Haven pilot Mr Love boarded the Majestic from the shore and went through the plan of departure with the crew onboard. The pilot radios Harwich VTS to ask the all important question what was the tide doing? The tide was .2 of a metre above prediction. The pilot replies they were ready for the services and believed 2 tugs were ordered and she is deep draughted with a maximum of 15.5 metres for Tanjung Pelepas via the Suez Canal.
Svitzer Kent and Svitzer Deben paddles from the tug pontoon to assist the Majestic off the berth. Kent takes the centre lead aft and Deben takes the centre lead forward. The pilot holds on the berth until the DFDS ferry Britainnia Seaways has passed through the harbour and backs for her berth. Finally the springs are let go and the Deben begins with an easy pull of 10% as the wind was coming from a north-westerly direction. The pilot then starts the Kent off at 25% then increases the Deben to the same. Edging away from the berth the pilot increases both tugs to 50% shortly increasing Kent to 75% and decreasing Deben in stages to a all stop.
The Majestic Maersk off the berth and Kent decreasing the pilot begins to swing the bow into the channel by using the bow thrusters and increaing the Deben to full for a little while. Kent drops in astern as the Majestic comes ahead on the main engines. Deben eases up and comes in to let go from forward. As Majestic was heavily laden the pilot says to the tugs that he would like the normal procedure for the corner so once Deben was clear they break off on to the starboard side and steams around the stern to position on the port quarter ready to help her around the corner.
Speed increasing as they approach the Fort Buoy the pilot radios the Kent to say there was a yacht just outside the channel so when they were ready go out on the starboard side and give what they can. Kent replies that the weight was going on. A few moments later the pilot radios the Deben to angle up for a push. Both tugs use their power to help turn the Majestic Maersk around the 90° Beach End. Once around the Beach End the Deben comes away from the ships side while the Kent eases up and comes up to the transom to let go.
Amazing ships. Thanks.
Excellent explanation of the procedure. Lot's of skill these gentleman have.
On a show about tugboats, it stated that the best harbor/docking pilots almost always had experience as tugboat captains.
Love these videos!
Very interesting !!! Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Somehow I doubt Malcolm Mc Lean imagined this when he came up with the shipping container concept in 1956.
video stra beautiful the container ship I love it subscribed to your channel a hug from Italy
amazing ships and impressive i have seen the emma maersk in 2006 and already huge but i am sared from container ships since i have seen the MOL comfort disaster in 2013 that caused 4500 containers to be lost in the arabian sea
great video of this mighty "Majestic" Maersk. well done

😉😣😮😲😑
I used to go to Felixstowe to see them loading ships when i was stationed at Raf Bentwaters in the mid 80's. I bet it has changed a lot since then!!! The Air Force had me drive there to get on a roro fairy to Belgian.
Insane 😳
Good video.
Damn! My hat blew off! Lets swing her around and get it!
My hat blew off (nice)fish will catch it for you
With all those loaded containers it sure seems like a lot of surface area for the wind to catch.
wonderful to see the Majestic Maersk living Felixstowe for Asia. I used to work for an Israeli shipping line ( not huge ships ) and I worked in our offices as a container controller. until 1996. Not worked for any other shipping lines as none offered me a job, as I was 55 at that time. still good to see Felixstowe shipping many container ships.
TBH it was probably less to do with your age and much more to do with your affiliation with Israel
There’s something unreal about this!!! One of the wonders of the world!!! Which is it? Forgive me: I’m overwhelmed by what I see!!!
I real enjoy your videos
I'm also
"Hey!! Stop!! You forgot to disconnect the line!! I'm back here, let me go!! Hey!! Captain!! Wait!!"
I remember the rocky beach at Felixstowe when I was stationed at Bentwaters
The container port is the other end of Felixstowe from the amusement pier
Thanks to the tugs who helped me
9 car Cottrell that wasn’t you you twat!
Nice. How polite lol
Hey, 9 car Cottrell, you've just about done everything in your life, from working on this ship to the USAF flying C5 Galaxies, driving trains, trucks and probably everything else. Just wondering, have you also served in the Navy aboard a Yellow Submarine? 😁😁
Those tugs handling a Goliath of a ship -- how is this possible? That's some impressive skill set.
Friction is greatly reduced in the water. It's why ships can be so large and need anchors in the first place
This is fascinating! I don’t know anything about ships can someone tell me how fast this goes in miles per hour?
Top speed is about 25mph but cruising speed is about 20mph.
I can do 22 knots wide open.
Oh ffs he works on this now!!!?? This guy's hilarious. 9 car Cottrell is an ex Concorde pilot. He's also Captain and Shift Commander LaBonte USAF Patriot Wing. Also drives trains and a 9 car stinger car transporter. Meanwhile also runs a D11 bulldozer and a Cat 797 mining truck. So, between doing all that and working on this ship i'm surprised he has time to comment on You Tube videos. lmfao Get knotted you halfwit
jim gemmell what did we miss lol
Not a lot. Just that 9 car Cottrell clown talking bullshit. Started by saying he's a former Concorde pilot on Concorde videos. Was formerly known on here as Sst Pilot.
Containers getting tossed over is a real danger to other ships.....I had a friend that worked on a seismic boat in the GOM and their boat hit on that was just bellow waterline maybe 6-7 ft under....tore the the boat up....cracked the hull and started taking on water,...the captain saved the ship/boat with pumps but he said it made for a long night.....he was sleeping when the boat hit the container.....he said water was pouring in the ships head at the front of the boat......and within 10 mins a good 6/7 inches was water was in the sleeping section.
What secures the containers in rough seas? do they just let them fall off??
The containers are held on with twist locks on each corner and the layer above the lashing platforms are cross lashed to give extra support in rough seas. There has been many container stack falls over the years, the record has been over 520 in one night.
Amazes me how tall they stack those and don't lose any in the huge ocean waves, gotta be at least 10 containers high.
i know i dont get it either
they put twist locks in each bottom of the corner of the box, we call them "dogs". they are about the size of a fist. they lash them down also. i work at the port of charleston, i got a drone video of our teminal.
Hundreds of containers go overboard every year. They can be hazards to navigation. Large companies like Maersk take more care of their loads.
More videos on the tugboat than the ship.
There will be soon. Best tug movements of 2021
If only ZIM can have vessels like this out of Suriname, Guyana and Rio Grande-Brazil my day-2-day work would be a bit less hectic🤭.
I wonder if they're gonna build larger ships than the Maersk?
Next week the new world's largest container ship is due in Felixstowe and she can hold 23,756 of the 20ft containers.
mighty ship
Watch out in the Suez Canal it’s very shallow and pretty narrow
Given the limited view angles, I count 23x11x26, and that's just on the deck, not including the hold. That's almost 6,000 containers, just on the deck, and just what's visible. WOW
If I remember in total it holds 18,000 containers at max, as there are containers above and below deck
Getting tossed in the open Seas just like any other.

Amazing!! Greetings from Mexico.
would Love to be apart of that build in the yards WOW~
There are some countries smaller than this ship lol
No way
🤔maybe my island. Puerto Rico. It is 100x35🤔
@@AthenaGM 😂😂😂
Hahaha true
@@AthenaGM Puerto Rico isn't a country it's a united States territory
How on earth do these things stay afloat? How many Captains are on board, incase one gets sick?
It's less dense than water
Only one Capt David
Captain is always one in my opiniom
Should the captain get sick, the Chief Officer will take over until a new Captain comes onboard. Don't worry.
Just wondering how much that cargo is worrh??
Let's team up and hijack it :D I'm a pirate too, Jack sparrow!
Bryan Rioux ..15000 containers ... more than €200 million
GOOD
What is preventing the containers from just falling off?
They are locked together with twist locks on each corner like they are on a lorry. Although this holds them together, there is still a possibility they fall off during very rough weather.

Is she larger than the triple c class ships?
She is a Triple E but first generation
@@deanocable what's the difference between 1st gen and the newer gens
@@ae4042 the second generation has the bridge 2 bays forward and the funnel 1 bay further back to increase capacity by over 2,000 TEU. The stern and bow have been redesigned to help with aerodynamic and fuel efficiency
How many containers might be on the ship?
The Majestic Maersk can hold 18,270 of the 20ft containers
@@deanocable Thanks plz
How big how large great crew wow
1:50 + I'm surprised it didn't shear fore or aft when pulled directly abeam.
I wanna build that in Minecraft so Badly.
9high x 9fttall 81 from deck. 50 draft
I have seen this ship many times and we were leaving Rotterdam the other day and passed the Manila Maersk EEE
The Manila Maersk is a second generation Triple E. Almost identical in length and breadth but the accommodation block has been moved forward 2 bays and funnels one bay back so it can hold a capacity of 20,568teu, just over 2,200teu more than the Majestic Maersk
Deano C wow thank you for that information I appreciate it I am in Rotterdam right now on my ship but we are just a G Class
10 x 90 + 50side + 50 draft 190 ft
Ship is bigger than the Country it is from
a little paint wouldn't be so bad for this vessel
Cost is an issue.
What is that odd noise in the background? It sounds like thunder and wet farts.
The wind ?
not farts
Top heavy?
The heavier boxes are near the bottom of the ship. Ones on top deck are most likely to be light weight cargo and empty containers.
@@deanocable oh oh..
Okay
Jeri.
I break for nobody !
Whoever’s last name is Maersk must be loaded with $$$$$
About $21 Billion
It is a public company, but the family does well :-)
It was a Danish shipping guy, Peter Mærsk Møller, who started the whole company. His son, Arnold Peter Møller, and his son, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller continued and developed the company. The name changed to "Maersk" for international reasons; only Danmark and Norway have the letter "æ" - it was a kind of streamlining the company internationally. Yes, they are loaded.
Probably the wealthiest family in Denmark. It's the worlds biggest shipping company.

I deliver to the maeesk terminal in Seattle all the time. The ships I see are shitty, short in length and ride high in the water. The Chinese ships are incredibly big.

Sailed for 42 tears. When these monsters came along, I quit. Good riddance.
They are even larger now with capacities up to almost 24,000teu
