I am Episcopalian. Raised in an Episcopal Church School (Oregon Episcopal School from kindergarten through high school graduation). My birthday is Christmas Eve (1956). My maternal grandfather (who died 4 years before I was born) knew how to play one song on the piano. Silent Night. (My maternal grandparents were both from Austria. The country where Silent Night was written.) For my mother (who had adored her father), I (an accomplished piano player since the age of 6) would always play Silent Night for her on Christmas Eve. Until her death in 1992. Now it seems that whatever Episcopal Church I happen to be in on Christmas Eve in whatever city I happen to be in, always at the strike of midnight the lights are dimmed, the candles are lit and the congregation (whether a few hundred or a few thousand) softly sing Silent Night. I no longer cry much about things but midnight on Christmas Eve I can never make it through Silent Night.
I consider the lyrics and the musical arrangement of this hymn as one of the most soothing melodies that could ever have been composed. God bless the composer and the singers who comprise the Mormon Tabernacle choir which I consider as one of the best choirs in existence

Hiw did this song just have me forget all the confution in my head?? Just amasingness. Why does this song have so much power? When I was in Elementry School around Christmas time, this song played kn the bus and all the kids including the crazy ones were jsut silent for a moment. Untill I pointed it out and my friend lauphed about the sudden silence and people started talking again. But man I love this song. And just like I said in my last comment, its not even Christmas season. This song is just good for the whole year I think.
We are now in May and we are closed at home because of the quarantine but listening to this music brings me back to last Christmas, when we could all be together under the tree to celebrate. However, the one that’s led by the Holy Spirit, like Paul in Acts 16, won’t accept anything, not at least a recommendation from people that were NOT following Jesus. And that’s so because we are instructed in 1 John as such: “9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.” So, it doesn’t have to do with the performance in itself but with the source of the performance, the spirit that stays behind the people that perform. The very premise is absurd; God created us to have feelings and senses for our enjoyment and for his as well. Hm! Very interesting what you say. If we go by the senses and feelings (which belong to our old crucified flesh), yes, you can say that.
However, the one that’s led by the Holy Spirit, like Paul in Acts 16, won’t accept anything, not at least a recommendation from people that were NOT following Jesus. And that’s so because we are instructed in 1 John as such:
“9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.”
So, it doesn’t have to do with the performance in itself but with the source of the performance, the spirit that stays behind the people that perform. Be, thus, careful.

@@eotpatriarchs There is not a verse in the bible that says that our senses and feelings belong to our sinful nature. The very premise is absurd; God created us to have feelings and senses for our enjoyment and for his as well. To be sure we can’t allow feelings to run rampant ( we’re told to be self controlled ) but senses and feelings in their redeemed state are 100% from God.
