I do wish Freddy could have heard them. He once said you could do what you want with his music except make it boring. It's NOT boring.
Back in the oldy days when music went from mono to stereo, it was a "thing" to pan left and right to prove that you were recording in stereo. Fancy.
The look of sheer disbelief and confusion on your face at Mitch's guitar solo was just amazing! And yes, he can morph his voice to fit pretty much any song. He really does sound exactly like Freddie.

And Mitch does the same effect live on stage without the megaphone. It's really just a prop, he doesn't need it.
Welcome to the pack, fellow Pentaholic! They wanted to do this cover for a long time, but they wanted to do it real justice. I think they did, and so did Brian May, the guitarist from Queen. When it came out, he posted it on his social media, with the caption, "Enjoy!".

Awesome reactions. "Oh come all Ye Faithful" is the best version of this song. Who knew that song had pep LOL Ive never been a huge fan of "Bohemian Rhapsody" but their version sold me🤯 Love the red and green lights and looking forward to your reactions of their Christmas Songs. They breathe new life into the classics. Thank you for all you do, you're a joy to watch and listen to.
Kevin (vocal percussionist) is actually a genius musically and logically. Hes the one who came up with Mitch using the megaphone.
If you haven't already done so, listen to their version of "Somebody that I used to know".
I saw the video showing how they made this video. It was shot in Portland, Oregon outside at night and it was freezing. The couch was truly remote control, unstable, and every time they got on or off the couch they either fell to the ground or the couch tipped over backwards. Mitch talked about being afraid of falling off the couch and dying. If you watch closely every time someone got on the couch the camera switched to another shot.They were VERY pleased with the final outcome. The final guitar solo by Mitch with shooting stars in the sky was paying homage to Dr. Brian May, who played the guitar solo in the original and got his PHD in astrophysics, the study of stars.
Brian May gave his seal of approval on this.

They were pretty anxious about doing the song justice and Kevin, the beatboxer, said it was the hardest percussion he had arranged to date. They always put their "twist" on their covers, or I like to say they "pentify" them, but I think they gave great respect for the original. If you check them singing this song on stage, live in front of an audience, you'll see that Mitch does NOT have a megaphone and he sounds the same. That megaphone is a prop only. I think you've been Mitch slapped, lol Welcome to the Pentaholic group. You've got so many other covers to react too now. If you haven't done it yet you need to see this live. Mitch doesn't use the megaphone, and you will see that the megaphone is only used for the loudness, not distortion. He actually sounds like a guitar.
There are videos of them doing this live, and Mitch sounds the same sans-megaphone.

The reason he sounds exactly the same in a live concert is that the audio mixer has the distortion effect turned on for those snippets. In a VIP/No Mic situation it would sound different.

If you look for their performances on "The Sing-Off" where they first hit the scene, Mitch does a guitar effect there - ten years before their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. But others can play that kind of game, too. Kevin does a Flugelhorn in "Havana." Not to be missed.

I have seen them perform this live and Mitch does not use the megaphone (only a prop) to achieve the sound. HE DOES SOUND LIKE the guitar solo. Welcome to the Pentaholic family.
Recommend their Say Something, Shallow, Sound Of Silence, Amazing Grace, Be My Eyes, A Little Space featuring ATEEZ, and Midnight In Tokyo featuring LGM The last three are originals.

It does sound like a legit drum kit. High hat, snare rim, symbols. 😃 I think Mitch thought of the megaphone. The megaphone is a bit of a misnomer. I have heard (for people that should know) the guts are removed & what you hear is actually Mitch, just through the cone of the megaphone. No sound amplification with the megaphone at all. However there was a microphone pickup inside the cone somewhere. No way to confirm it for sure unless someone knows the back story.

The Megaphone is a prop listen to the Hollywood Bowl live performance.
Actually using a megaphone for this guitar solo has been around for decades. There used to be a music bar/club in the US called Howl at the Moon. It consisted of 2 grand pianos with piano players playing every song you know the words to. (And beer & booze.) At shift change from 1 piano player to another they would do Bohemian Rhapsody and use a little megaphone for the guitar solos.

The megaphone was just a prop they used in the video. It wasn't used in the actual recording, and Mitch doesn't use it when they perform the song live. If you know all the group member's names and you love what they do, then you can officially call yourself a Pentaholic!
