Hello and welcome to BOAB Models - today we'll be building Dan Gurney's All American Racers Castrol Reynard from 1998. This kit was second hand and already started but I did what I could to bring it up to my standard. This car was from the mid '90s CART-Indy Split so despite being an Indycar, it didn't drive at Indianapolis!

Thanks for watching and also thanks to Dean who pointed me in the direction of this kit after I spoke to him at Scale Models World. Cheers!
Fantastic build Thomas! It's really inspired me to get on with my one in the near future. I would love to see you tackle the new Salvinos JR indycars in the future!
Thanks very much, Dean. I have heard good things about those Salvinos kits but I'm not sure they are stocked in the UK.
Very nice looking build. Nice save on the decals. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Michael!
That's a nice kit, and the Castrol livery is so iconic, one of my favorites. Old decals are always a challenge, and you dealt with them just fine. Great build!
Thanks very much, Gus. Totally agree about the Castrol livery. I'm glad the majority of the decals worked too.
Nice job! I used to race with Alex in go karts it's fascinating to see somebody that you raced with and and now you're making a model car that he drove. Thank you for posting this very cool
Oh wow, that's amazing. I'm glad it could bring back those memories! Many thanks for watching!
Nice saving build. 🏁
Cheers! I'm glad I could get it built after so many years.
Very nice video, I really enjoyed your commentary to go along with the build. Cheers.
Thanks for the kind words!
Looks great! Very nice recovery on the eagle's beak.
Much appreciated!
Its a beautiful racer!! Ive never built one of these revell indycars, but definitely interested after seeing yours!!!!
Many thanks, I'd not built one before this either but I'd definitely like to get another.
Cool looking car, I like the eagle at the front and you did a good job restoring it. It reminds me a bit of the Jordan F1 car that had the hornet nose art, it's a cool styling choice!
Cheers Nick. Yes, I thought the same, and coincidentally 1998 was the year the hornet debuted on the Jordan.
Turned out quite nicely, great recovery on the nose, you can hardly tell the yellow part of the decal isn't there. I have Scott Pruett's Pioneer Reynard in my stack of shame, hoping the decals hold together. This video will be a good guide for me when I get around to it
Many thanks, mate. Yeah, I tested a small decal I wasn't going to use and it worked. Only the yellow let me down. Good luck with yours!
Woow very nice build
Thank you 😁
That came out really nice, I didn’t build many of those indycars but did enjoy them. I liked watching the old CART series, good cars, teams and drivers. Model on
Thanks very much, Sarah Jane. I'm afraid that I'm one of those people who only know of drivers who went to or from F1 like Mansell or Jacques Villeneuve so I'm really trying to expand my knowledge of the series.
@@BOABModels I used to get the Autosport magazine back in the 70’s and 80’s so only read about the CART series, until early 80’s when on a late night channel highlights of the races were shown, still have some on VHS somewhere :) I don’t think indycar has fully recovered from the split, oh and I have a Paul Tracy t-shirt from 1995 when he drove for Penske, bought it at Laguna Seca that year :) model on
I've build the Target version which was not bad... Also Indycals does decals for various other cars....
Yeah, thanks for mentioning. I did look at their site but they only had the Eagle decals for a different season.
Superb! You did an excellent job on that, it's so cool! Revell do a Greg Moore indycar kit and it's something I'd dearly love to do but they are super rare and very expensive.
I haven’t seen the Greg Moore kit. I’d also like to build that one. I was a big Greg Moore fan back in the day. ☹️ His death was a tragedy.
@@billbowman8747 Yes it was heartbreaking indeed, horrific crash.
@@SteveT-0 I actually stopped watching the races for a few years after his crash. I've built three of the AMT/Ertle Indy Car kits since getting back into the hobby during COVID. (Mario Andretti's Kmart Lola, Danny Sullivan's Miller High Life Penske, and Rick Mears Pennzoil Penske.)
It was a horrible tragedy - I can imagine that's part of the reason why the kits are so expensive.
Thanks very much for watching!
@@BOABModels just bought a sealed kit on eBay. It’s set to arrive next Monday.
Nice save on the nose.
Right, I never understood why Tamiya couldn't bother with the visor if the driver wore a clear one. Was it really so expensive to include?
Cheers!
Totally - I used a bit of plastic packaging which I folded around a pencil to make a visor on the few Tamiya F1 drivers I've made.
