Arcane dives into the delicate balance between the rich city of Piltover and the seedy underbelly of Zaun. Tensions between these city-states boil over with the creation of hextech - a way for any person to control magical energy - in Piltover; and in Zaun, a new drug called shimmer transforms humans into monsters. The rivalry between the cities splits families and friends as Arcane brings life to the relationships that shape some of League of Legends' famous champions including Vi, Jinx, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Viktor.
Arcane premieres on Netflix November 6th at 7PM PT.

Ella's performance as Jinx was incredible, but the actress who played the younger version of the character in Act 1 shredded my soul in episode 3. That finale hit hard.

Harder to do voice acting than normal acting tho. You have to act just to a mic, you have no visual feedback from the other parties and you have to be able to express everything only through your voice, even tho the animation does a great job with facial expressions.

Honestly jinx is nothing like Harley quin or joker or etc etc. Jinx really has become a unique complex character of her own.
the inspiration was a combo of the two, i've heard also Gollum was thrown into the mix somewhere. i think for her "talking to herself" parts. but indeed, she has become her own character afterwards, with such amazing voice acting and animation.
Yeah Jinx looks completely different to Harley and Joker. Jinx has a different origin story. Jinx has had a different upbringing and people that has been around her. Jinx is written better than Harley to be honest in my opinion. I love Jinx’s blue hair and tattoos. Her design is great and relates to how much she has gone through and you can tell in scenes where she has under eye circles.
@@kelsian_smith03 I think you all missed the point here, which i thought would be hard to do, because she just said "in terms of craziness we haven't had anything like this, except for maybe Harley Quinn. It's not a one to one comparison of all aspects of those two characters.
@@Dave1507 I understand what you’re saying but deep down Jinx had a reason for her craziness and on the other hand Harley only started becoming crazy when she jumped into the acid bleach at that factory. I’m not discrediting Harley because she’s a great and well written character and I’ve loved her character over the years

Ella purnell did such an amazing job. I can't help but replay this dialogue in my head constantly: "You never left. I always heard you. Shadows in the streets. Prickles in the back of my neck. Your voice, picking me up, pushing me. When all the colours were black, you're the reason i'm still alive." It's SO well delivered i'm just amazed.
Since I watched this scene like 1638 times now, I was reading it with Ella's voice in my head and got shivers. She's truly phenomenal!
Ella Purnell's face is how I imagine how recent animated Disney women look if they become real people.

Her performance as Jinx was absolutely phenomenal, I don't even have enough words to express it. It's not easy voicing a character that teeters between sanity and insanity and make it feel so real, grounded, and heartwrenching. What's crazy to think about is that she probably went into this little animated show to do a voiceover job and be done with it, as many actors do, like just another gig. Who would've thunk that the show would end up being one of the best animated series to ever come out? That it would be a god tier masterpiece hailed by everyone who sees it?? Not her, or anyone involved for that matter. It's so crazy.

You're the reason I'm still alive." Makes me cry EVERY time, and it's been a LOT... And I'm a big, tough 50 year old bloke. For someone who's not done VA before, you should be very proud. Fabulous job, one of the most likable animated characters there's ever been... And she's supposed to be the VILLAIN!
Between Jinx and Lucy, Ella has proved herself as one of the greatest actors in the business.

Honestly, Harley Quinn ain't even as crazy as Jinx. And god, I can't wait to see Ella's rendition of Jinx. From what little we've gotten already, it seems like she's done a great job capturing the crazy.

Watching her performance, I think the genius of her performance is she isn't actually going full-on crazy. She's doing the far more difficult task of walking the character on a tightrope between sanity and insanity. If you watch carefully, there's moments where she's lucid as Powder, and other moments where she's hallucinating as Jinx. It's such a delicate balance to strike, but it results in a really enrapturing performance, as you find yourself holding your breath waiting to see which direction she tips on the tightrope so to speak.
@@operative2136 Yeah, she did an amazing job playing the character. There's always a lot of tension when she's on screen.
I like Jinx because she has legitimate issues and motivations that derive from real trauma. Harley Quinn always came off as being crazy out of love. Not that interesting and not that believable/empathetic.
What I think makes Jinx more interesting is that she is not just ditzy and comically crazy like Harley Quinn. Jinx is smart, sinister, traumatized and psychotic, she is scary, and yet you just can't help but feel sorry for her.
She fucking killed the role. Crazy it was her first. Some of the best voice acting I've ever heard
First voice over job? You SMASHED it girl!! I absolutely love the energy in her voice, and especially the voice breaks. God, they're so natural and authentic and add such humanity to the voice of jinx. Ella, you're a gem, wow. Please keep your opportunities open for more voice acting roles!!
I can't believe they did not have her do any voice work in the booth together with someone else, like Hailee Steinfeld. It's all so smooth and well put together, really surprised to hear that.
They do that a lot in the Voice Acting industry. They did the same with the games The Walking Dead and Borderlands. Sometimes Voice actors do their lines in a different booth, at home or a different recording studio depending when they’re available to voice act.
@@kelsian_smith03 Yeah, I know. But I did not think they had done so in this case, at least not for none of the scnes, as some of them were so personal and emotional, much more than is usual in games and many animated series.

You're reading too much into my comment. I simply meant that she's a great actress who not only captures Jinx's extreme mental instability, but her subtle, tender emotions as well. She arguably had the hardest character to portray in the entire series. It's even more impressive that she's an Englishwoman who perfectly put on an American accent.

Gosh that 8 minutes went VERY fast. She could have continued rambling for half an hour and i still would have been hanging on her every word.
Honestly though, I really really want to see Ella Purnell say the batshit "Sister sister, you'd have thought i'd missed her" line IRL.

Ella is so versatile in her acting. Comparing her performance of Jinx to that of her in Yellowjackets as Jackie or her as Emma in MPHFPC, if you didn't know what she looked like, you would have never guessed it was her. She has so much talent, and so much variety with her work.

Ella Purnell is an amazing actress! Absolutely love her energetic personality, real relaxed, chill vibe about her, she seems like someone you would have a great time to hang out with for sure. She was amazing as Jinx in Arcane, Army of the Dead and absolutely stole the show in Fallout as Lucy. 👏👏👏👏
I also believe she stole the Fallout show, at least for me. Yes, the Ghoul was really cool and his flashbacks are great but Lucy had a more complete character arc and some of the best acting moments in the season. I'm really looking forward to see her character's further changes in season 2

I wonder if the animators took any footage of her as reference. Her eyes seem to have the same expressiveness as Jinx's eyes do in the animation. I can see some of her mannerisms in the character.

Haven’t played LOL and have no interest in playing it. Iv’e watched gameplay and it just isn’t the type of game I’m into. It doesn’t matter though. I LOVED ARCANE. Amazing animation. Voice acting. Character development. All of it was an A++.
I just watched Arcane and OMG Ella Kills It As Jinx and for this being her first Voice Acting performance she was both outstanding and did amazing as the voice when i hear jinx it brings so much sympathy to character you almost feel bad for her, also i don't think Jinx is anything like Harley Quinn while i understand some people compare she's her own character there both different in there own ways Jinx is one of my all time favorite characters and i can't wait to see more of her in Season 2!

Good interview... but I feel it was a setup to hit her with her playing the game question. It created some unspoken sense that she should play the game in order to understand the character or be a true insider. She did amazing and I'm so happy to see people outside the game make it a universal story.

I don't know about the character Jinx but in the TV Fallout she is so, how to say, perky and yet experienced above the level that you would think of a Vault Dweller. She is, however, the daughter they say of two chosen people who were both overseers' and if you follow the lore that would be a sort of experiment if she were brought up in the vault! She is a great actress and also so cute and perky! LOL
jinx is almost the complete opposite of lucy, and ella’s fantastic at voicing her. i strongly recommend you watch arcane! it’s also a great watch
Jinx is also perky and childishly naive. Both hopeless devoted to their antagonist devious father. But whereas Lucy Mclean is a pacifist who tries not to hurt a fly, Jinx is... well, Jinx! A Harley Quinn inspired maniacal character obsessed with bombs and causing chaos around Piltover and Zaun.
