They reverse engineered a god.
They reverse. Engineered. A god.
actually they reversed engineer two gods and a machine that basically was a god.
It's her!!!

meh.
Yet not entirely. Alexander still had one more trick up his mechanical sleeve.
And I still beat the shit out of it
I knew that coffee machine tataru mentioned was evil
Lol
You just know Nero "upgraded" it at some point.
Okay but literally the mobs right before this ARE the coffee machine
@@mallowhoney The mobs are "Mark CXLIV(144) Thermocoil Boilbusters," Tataru's coffeepot is the "Mark XIV(14) Thermocoil Boilmaster." Same line of creation I assume... but I agree that I think Nero did some upgrades, creating the Boilbuster line. And maybe decedents of Wedge took it further.
If I had to spend all my time listening to her I'd either run or turn evil. Just look at her carbuncle.
It needs to be said... Garlond Ironworks studied the Crystal Tower, Alexander, and Omega, like everyone knows... But they actually accomplished something that even an ASCIAN didn't know how to do. That's the whole reason Emet kidnapped the Exarch... That's... really impressive when you think about it. The Ironworks surpassed Ascian knowledge... if only in this one limited area.
Krescentwolf There's an earlier conversation about halfway through MSQ where Emet-Selch is saying basically "I helped build this tower, and I *know* what it can do. And it can't do this. Explain yourself." And the Crystal Exarch replies basically "Not tellin'."
The so-called 'pieces' of the 'real' people managed to surpass the Ascian all-knowing technology does bring smiles to my face. Right at your face Emet. (I still love you though)
he would probably find that spectacularly ironic given that's how his homeland fell to begin with

That line is more hype than any other line of any song in this game.
So they used everything Garlond ironworks ever investigated to save the world.

Nice one Cid
Unfortunately CID did not live to see all of his work be combined to save the world. Instead his will was passed on to his descendants who saw his wish through.
Cid's will was placed inside the tycoon. You kill cybercid
Cid doesn't live to see this work completed, Biggs is the one to take up the mantle be responsible for completing the work in his stead alongside Jessie and Wedge.
@@emeraldflask8865 Yup. But like the Exarch said, it was all thanks to Cid's studies and theories that Biggs and his line based their work on ^_^

The name of the boss (Tycoon) seems to be a reference to FF5. The king of Tycoon in that game was named Alexander Highwind Tycoon.
Yo I loved FFV and had no idea.
Ooooh. Thats pretty smart!
Well that explains the resemblance!
A Tycoon is also an extremely rich/successful Businessman, and usually used to refer to industrial industries (Like oil drilling or... wait for it.... Iron works...) so it's also referencing the Garlond Ironworks... It's a really apropos name... XD

Reading the passages you find out that the Ironworks reverse-engineered a **primal** (Alexander), and used Omega's rift hopping abilities to fling the Crystal Tower into the future and that the message you see once the quest is complete was Biggs' last recording for a brighter future where the 8th umbral calamity doesn't come to pass.
Talk about making all the raids be that more meaningful!
The log numbers used as journal entries to describe what happened are also given the same Patch number that the relevant data appeared in.
It's crazy because this isn't even a raid! It's an optional post-MSQ dungeon! And yet it gets all that worldbuilding.
@@JackgarPrime This seems to be par for the cause for Shadowbringers. The four role quests pack alot of info about the world of Novrandt and Ardbert's adventures, but the true amazing bit is what happens if you do all 4 role quests, which unlocks a whole new questline focused on the idenitity of the mysterious Shadowkeeper that Ardbert's group fought, their motivation and where they came from.
As of 5.4 even more quests have been added to this, tying up the role quests in a small event and further tying the Shadowkeeper into past events, including stuff that happened way back in Heavensward.

Thinking again about how wild it is that a subplot in A Realm Reborn about preparing cheese in Eastern La Noscea eventually took us into an entire raid series in Heavensward about traveling through time and eventually ended with Cid reverse-engineering a god so that some red haired cat boy trapped in the Crystal Tower could go back in time and stop a calamity.
Final Fantasy 14 is a game that exists.
"Wait, you reverse-engineered a GOD?"

I’m gonna be real with you, THIS one got me more than A Long Fall, because this was the one thing in ShB I was NOT spoiled on. I still remember the high I felt when I heard “Seeking the peace of reason” for the first time here.
Nice! I ran it a couple months ago for the first time since it rotated out of the expert duty roulette and while I clearly remembered A Long Fall, I completely forgot about this version of Locus (It was a good surprise too, I really like Locus).
I knew about The Twinning for the memes on the absolute BANGER of the dungeon, but THIS at the end was unknown to me. What's even better is that I LOVE Alexander raids. The music ALWAYS slaps and this is probably the best OST of them all.
As someone who just completed it, I was totally caught off guard! I was expecting Insatiable and then BOOM! I got super into fighting the boss!
Alexander is one of my favorite Eikons so this was a _very_ welcome surprise. Was sitting with a big smile on my face through it.

Hears Song, sees boss.
Me: CIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDD WHAT DID YOU DO!!!
This was already explained in the story before.
Technically Cid just figured out the math for it. It was Biggs' grandkid and the Ironworks he was President of that built the damn thing.
And somehow, someway, I still believe it's all Ilberd's fault.
@@cooljoe500 They don't explain anything about Alexander though, the Exarch just mentions that the Ironworks figured out the ins and outs of the Tower in order to time travel through the rift.
@@rairai5114 Guessing they studied Alexander and Omega's places after we finished the raids and they figured out how to time/dimension travel and build this sweet thing.

Combining three Raids into one dungeon, the absolute madmen. If they combine Bahamut, Mhach, and Ivalice, I'm gonna lose it.
It made me feel so proud of the boys at the Ironworks...the culmination of everything they learned from every Raid they were involved in with us. The inner workings of the Crystal Tower, Alexander's time travel and Omega's dimensional crossing powers, all that experience came together in this dungeon

That and there's the whole "everything from the void is just people corrupted by dark/astral aspected auracite"
Coil kind of deserves to stay a standalone story though
This is honestly one of my favorite dungeons in the entire game. They really topped themselves with this and Amarout.
I love how The Tycoon remix uses more instruments played by humans since it was created by humans unlike The regular Alexander bosses with The Locus that uses more stiff, non-conventional instruments
I was so happy not to be spoilered for this whole Duty. When this boss rolled up I was like, so that's what Cid and co have been up to!
It explains A LOT of how the E***** got to travel time
Oh shit. I didn't put that together.
That's a bad Cid! No making Pseudo Primals!
Indeed. I am presently unclear as to whether this boss is helping facilitate what the tower and exarch did, or if this was just a research dead end that didn't pan out left in the tower. Either way, the Ironworks helped take down the original, and it really speaks to how hopeless and grim that their situation is that they resort to building their own version.
Me and my friend started screaming when we saw Alexander.
Alexander created by Garlond Ironworks, fighting us inside the Crystal Tower in a room that has Omega mounted on the wall.
And this is the first level 80 dungeon post-story? What the hell are they gonna do to top this? I am almost terrified imagining what could be next.

Seeking the peace of reason
Sheep in a peaceless season
Reason to keep believing
Waken the beast who's sleeping
Let go this destiny, you're caught in a trance
Ever marking time inside a dream, no sign of advance,
You see, the mortal coil we serve is taut like a spring
Step back! Two-step, two-step, two-step, one two three
Our world's a fantasy, no more than a test
Ever feeding off the fallacy creating this mess
Deep down inside this bleak machine with all of the rest
Break free! Two-phase, two-phase electricity
Time turning up the volume
Time turning on us always
No time enough tomorrow
For turning back to where we began
Twenty-two sectors tested
Fragments in one direction
Celestial noise detected
Delirium unsuspected
Static tuned in to reason
Time in the aether deepens
Transmissions blink uncompleted
Seven two three two three...
Arrested destiny, alone in a trance
No escaping from this waking dream, no hope of advance,
You see, the mortal coil we serve is naught but a spring
Unwind! Too slow, too quick, too much to believe
Your world's a fantasy, you've failed the test
Ever forging all new fallacies creating more mess
Directly through this bleak machine, with all of the rest
DC! Dying, dying electricity
Falling back right into the system of
Falling back on all that's erased
When fighting back right out of this system
Means falling back right into this space
Yes, falling back right in with the system
Who'll see you falling back to the end
When falling back is better than simply
Falling back into pieces again
Silent steel breathing, breathing
Memory writing, reading
Error! Repeat deleting
Radicals flowing free and
Energy slowly seeping
Suspending all disbelief in
Synergy with our being
Synapses fire in three, then...
Thanks for the text - I appreciate it! :3 This song is amazingly catchy!

@@dragonfable66 but all in all, what the heck Biggs?!
If you look in the background, it shows all the 8 man raids you been on minus the Coil; probably because Cid wasn't a part of that one.
Thing is though, we do see the jump pads from Coil earlier in the dungeon. They don't monitor the coils 'cause they're probably smoking ruins by that point, and because Cid wasn't there like you said, but their influence is felt :D

Me walking to the Tycoon, hearing Locus from Alexander: Ah shit, here we go again.
When I first heard the theme during the boss cutscene, I lost my shit thinking no way they brought Alexander back. I lost it again with just how much fun the fight itself was. It is definitely my favorite this expansion for dungeon bosses. I also needed new pants by the end of it
All the time freeze stuff was insanely cool. This is might be my favorite dungeon boss in the entire game.
If you think about HOW Alexander works, and the means by which it controls space-time, then you get a hint to what exactly became of that dark future when they sent the crystal tower to The First in the past. To put it bluntly, it's a lifeless husk. The Tycoon consumed all of the aether on that version of etheirys to do what it did. They made the ultimate sacrifice to stop the rejoinings.
Even worse is that Black Rose was successfully deployed, so even when he left the timeline, there would be no way to recover the lost aether naturally because of how the bioweapon suppresses it to a standstill
This isn't true, it drew on the power of the crystal tower, which gains it's power through funneling energy from the thirteenth (void world)
Black rose devastated the source leaving nothing to draw energy from, even if it did work that way.
@@Grimnoire The world was in ruins yeah, but it wasn't DEAD. It still endured, even if just barely. You need to remember that all of the aether stored in the tower would still be inadequate to properly feed even an artificial Alexander. The artificial enigma, The Tycoon would have needed as much aether as the real Alexander to time travel even as they teleport the ENTIRE tower at the same time to The First of the past. The tower still had massive stores of aether to spare, so it can only be surmised that such prodigious amounts of aether to perform this impossible feat would have been gathered from the post-8th Umbral Calamity Source itself, leaving the star a lifeless husk in the process.
@@VioletNightmare it's stated that they used the crystal tower as a source of power several times. Graha tia even uses it to sustain his body for hundreds of years.
@@VioletNightmare fun fact most people in the 8uc timeline were against the ironworks' plan and wanted to save the world they had rather than use the power of a god to undo the calamity. remember, the ironworks thought that this would erase their timeline, so they wanted to bring back the past at the expense of all who live now, just like the ascians, the warrior of light is their zodiark.
I wouldn't mind this boss becoming an extreme trial. Combining all the good stuff from all the big raids from previous expansions into one boss fight is epic.
I mean original Alexander is going to become an Ultimate Raid, can't wait to see the remixes and fights that come out of that lol.
"First time here. Any advice?"
Me: Turn up the volume.

I wish I'd taken the time to read all the research notes to understand if this entity is managing the Crystal Tower in its current functionality, or if it was just a discarded dead end research path taken by the Ironworks to try to achieve what the tower later did. Either way, it is super cool at doing a good job of "show, not tell" with respect to how bad the situation had gotten that Cid or others in the Ironworks would outright risk building their own version of something so dangerous, just to avert an even worse outcome. And that recorded message you get afterwards really takes it home. This was their last hope to try to save what they could after losing everything.
the notes explain that sunglasses!biggs's predecessor drew up the plans based on cid's data on alexander and what got salvaged from omega, but wanted to leave it up to the generation after him whether or not to build and fire it because it makes a huge mess on the way out, iirc

@@Gamemaster-64 I'm guessing it just means that the Crystal Tower now can't go back to the Alternate-timeline it came from.
They didnt think this far ahead because the CT was supposed to poof out of existence. Putting it down here is a necessity, for many reasons.
First, it isnt a viable means of going back, because the actual methods, calculations, etc was left behind on the post-8UC Source.
Second, this knowledge is WAY too risky to let past. Third, it was going haywire already, hence why G’raha Tia needed it dead in the first place.

This Dungeon Managed to recapture the feeling that was experiencing the Alexander Raid for the first time blind. escape Remix, Fun references, Lore that I wanted read, and a Final Boss that was out of left field with the main Theme of the Alexander Raid plying WITH time manipulation mechanics! This is my favorite Dungeon this Expansion. I think it will be hard for the developers to out do it, but I am eager to see them try and Hope that they succeed!
Smile! Sweet! Sister! Sadistic! Surprise! Service! SEEKING THE PEACE OF REASON! SHEEP IN A PEACELESS SEASON! REASON TO KEEP BELIEVING! WAKING THE BEAST WHO'S SLEEPING!
No one could understand the lyrics the first time so they needed to make an entire new dungeon with raid bosses just to slow them down.
Fantastic!
I'm in love with this song.
Garlond Ironworks build their own Alexander: I sleep
Mark CXLIV Thermocoil Boilbuster: *R E A L S H I T ?*
Why is this song such a brain worm! Its so funky with that bass I love it
Wish there was an orchestrion roll specifically for this boss fight
The mechs simply brilliant
Fancy seeing you here
Powerful song there!!!! Totally noticing that the boss battle could be so intense!!! And Alexander...what of this awesome battle??
When I first did this dungeon I was with my friends, and we did a full tank party (gnb, war, drk, pal). When this theme started playing after A Long Fall I was so happy. Hand down one of the best dungeon.
This boss gave me the hugest smile, since I love the Alexander raid and its concept in this setting.
