I generally leave my ad settings set to the CZcams defaults, but I've discussed tools to try and block them in other videos, and I don't hold it against anyone who uses those.
In-video ads/sponsored reads are one thing I don't do, though.

This is listed as part of the setup info on their website: owncast.online/quickstart/container/
I _usually_ show manual installations of software I'm featuring because it offers greater insight into how the software is architected (which I believe is useful to have a handle on even when troubleshooting issues in a containerized environment), and because the docker/podman setup steps would look almost the same for every application. It's the same reason I didn't just show Owncast's quick installer script-- not everyone trusts someone else to get the setup correct for their own environment, and you likely don't need to be shown how to run a shell script that does all the work for you.

Thank you for this video. I have a quick question. Can own cast stream a video directly using an RTSP url from an IP camera? If so, I could totally bypass having to use OBS. My project is to help a non profit org stream a nature IP camera they have at their park to the web. Thanks again.

I looked into this a little-- based on what I see on the Owncast GitHub page, it requires an RTMP input, not RTSP. There are other options for converting RTSP to RTMP (one's called MediaMTX) that may be simpler to run long-term than OBS.
