  • At first, it's very bright. But then, as your eyes adjust to the light, you start to piece together your surroundings. The moving blobs above you, you realize, are masked faces of surgeons. And they've got their hands inside your body. You can't run, you can't scream... Luckily, you can't feel. Still, you have to watch...

I was still in the operating room, all the doctors around me. Like they finished one minute ago. It was the worst feeling ever. I still remember the smell. I couldn’t move an inch of my body at all. And i couldn’t speak, i screamed for my mom but not one sound came out. It was horrible

      There's a huge problem with waking up during surgery cause you're gonna feel everything! Thank God I never went through that but I think I went through emergence delirium. I was 11 when I had my adenoids removed. The moment I woke up I went berserk: freaking out, kicking, screaming, and as the doctors were trying to hold me down I was thrashing to get them off (I fell out with them holding me down and I didn't like the feeling), and I finally started crying saying I wanted my mom. The next thing I knew I passed out (they probably injected me without me realizing it). Later on I felt them bed Wheel me to another room and lift me into another bed. Not long after that I opened my eyes to find my mom in the recovery room.

  • @aa1785
    @aa1785 Před 4 lety +7

    My last surgery I remember waking up with no one in the room. Being that I just woke up from surgery my first thought was "I'm going to get in trouble if I'm awake" or something like that. So, I remember closing my eyes and pretending to be asleep until someone entered the room. I used to do this all the time when it was time for bed, so I was really good at it. A couple minutes later a nurse came in with my mom to wake me up. I think they both knew I was awake, but they didn't say anything about it.

    It actually happened to me when I got cholecystectomy surgery last February. Three times during operation. First was just like 10 seconds and I fell asleep again. The second one, I knew they already performing the surgery since I feel like I was to vomit so I let out a small speak, saying *"Doc, I feel like I'm going to puke"* and I said that 5 times in order for them to hear me. Good thing, my anesthesiologist made me calm by holding my head. Then the third time when I think they successfully performed the surgery well since they were happy and loud, and I fell asleep again.
    It wasn't that traumatic or panicking when you woke up. For those who'll be having surgery anytime soon, *JUST BE CALM AND RELAX WHEN YOU WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF SURGERY*
    _-i just hope my anesthesiologist wasn't fired because of me_ 😅

      Ik this is a joke but in real life, u can't even move a muscle. It takes every lil ounce of energy you have to even twitch ur finger if u wake up. That's coz of a medicine they inject so that the patient doesn't move even when he/she is under anesthesia.

    I was awake during my apendix removal, (I had local anesthesia done, which hurt like hell tbh, because it was made on my spine, and the needle was like 20cm, when I think about it I could feel the same pain over and over again) but they put something like a curtain so I couldnt see, I could move my head, blink, talk, and the worst, when they were sewing my wound, I could feel the needle penetrating my skin, but I didn't feel any pain during the whole surgery.
    I wouldn't do it again tbh
    But it's not the worst that could happen, so if you re scared of any surgery, trust me, it's better than losing your life

Once in a surgery I gained some consciousness, though I couldn’t open my eyes or talk, but I could clearly feel a wired ticklish sensation under my skin, it wasn’t at all painful. I felt like it’s the end of the surgery where they were wiping/cleaning anything out from the opening. Then I soon went unconscious and went back to sleep.

    I have had 40 surgeries/minor and major, during my childhood and young adult life. I've woken up a few times during surgeries, never have I felt pain, nor have I seen anything only hear, and you can mumble some words which is how the doctor knew I was up. Usually your eyes are taped shut so they don't dry out or get damaged during the operation. And they have you out within seconds at least they did for me. If your going to have a surgery and your nervous, bring a item that smells good to you it will help calm the nerves and know that the anesthesia gist is really good at their job. I would say 40/3 is a good record. But I completely understand the fear I still am afraid of any surgeries myself, which is why I only get done what is absolutely necessary for my survival and or quality of life. May God Bless you 🙏 Also don't eat food before surgery, you will throw up.
