Hot Space is definitely a good album, it's a matter of genre taste. The quality is great. But, yes, really different for Queen, but it's still an important part of Queen.
There are some great hidden gems on Hot Space. Fingers crossed he does it. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Life is Real( Song for Lennon) is haunting but people never got it. Freddie Mercury is a bold songwriter.

Performances like Montreal '81 are way better than Live Killers

Montreal has been enhanced up the wazoo. Why doesn't Freddie let the crowd take over during Love of my Life? Because they're not singing. What you're hearing is enhanced crowd audio. That concert is not presented the way it was originally performed. Anyone who has see the original VHS version will know what I mean. Live Killers is presented in it's original form, warts and all.
This track truly showcases Freddie's inimitable range & vocal ability.❤

About the "only 4 million albums sold in the US" thing...
one thing that distinguishes Queen from other major rock bands: while the other rock bands have sold at least half their albums in the US and the rest abroad, Queen's album sales are mostly globally while only a small part of it is in the US. Queen is the most global rock band - they are far more popular in the UK & Europe, in South America, in Japan & East Asia, South Africa and Australia than they are in the US.
E.g. there's a reason why they wrote songs especially for their Japanese & South American audience. 🙂

Both songs Teo Toriatte and Las Parabas mi Amore were written by Brian May. He seem to have a sense of cultural appreciation.
But those sales numbers are really wrong, it should be 10 mil. look up charmasters that is an accurate place for sales.
Reinhold Mack only played synthesizers in Roger's Rock It in this album.
If you don’t do Live Killers (which doesn’t sound cut-n-paste to my ears), you might consider reacting to ‘Queen Rock Montreal’ after The Game. It’s a concert from 1981 and was just out in theaters in IMAX.
Saw it Sunday January 21, 2024 both showings. Owned it on VHS back in the 90's.
"Dragon Attack" was written by Brian May. But based mostly on a jam session between John and Roger.
Please continue to do all albums. Love listening to your pov even if I don't agree sometimes. You must do Hot Space so you get a rounded view of all songs.

@@raymondregis6219 Actually not. He played synthesizers in this song, acoustic guitar in Crazy Little Thing Called Love and piano on this track, Don't Try Suicide and Sail Away Sweet Sister.
John played synthesizers in Another One Bites The Dust, Brian played synthesizers in Sail Away Sweet Sister and Save Me, Roger played synthesizers in Rock It, Coming Soon and in the b-side track, A Human Body. Mack played synthesizers in Rock It as well.
Flash Gordon is a soundtrack album, so it has a lot of ambience tracks and tracks that are characteristical of movies.
However there's two tracks that are definitely worth check out. Flash, which is the hit of the album and actually a pretty big hit in Queen's catalog. The Hero is the other track, which is actually my favorite of the album. Both of them are actually standard songs, even though they still carry some soundtrack feel, it's not so evident

Very nice song. I think you should do hot space also :) It is a very contraversial album, and many people think that its their worst. Personaly, I think that it is a great album, and that relative decline in quality of their albums came only AFTER Hot space. Cheers !

This is one of Freddie's finest. His voice is like honey and the song itself is just perfect. They certainly announce the change to synths loudly at the beginning of this album! So happy you are continuing the rollercoaster. I vote for Hot Space to come! 😍🤩❤🤘🎶🎧🎸
I bought this album on vinyl the week after it came out. I was 17. I got the bus to the next town, bought the album having only heard Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
I put the record on and heard Play the Game, and I was so excited I was dancing around the room at one point!
By the way, Live Killers was very popular in my school. It was always being played. Don't listen to the detractors, just hear it with an open mind and no prejudice, it's awesome.

This song has a permanent position in my top 5 Queen songs!! And, every live version is absolutely amazing! Billboard considered “Play The Game” to be a return to Queen’s traditional epic sound. I agree! 😊

I highly recommend either reacting to and/or watching the "Live in Montreal 1981" videos. I bought this album in the summer of 1980 and was lucky enough to get tickets to see them at Madison Square Garden that September. Awesome show!

This is my favorite Queen album. I love every song and I love my DVD-Audio disc of this album.
Dragon Attack written by Brian May and stemmed from a jamming session. One point to note about the recording of the Game is the album was recorded in 2 halves (with quite a large gap between them) and its easy to tell which songs were recorded in 1979 & which ones were recorded in 1980
The concert I saw in 1981 was in support of this album. My friend and I had a bet as to which song would open the show. I said :The Game" , He said "Crazy Little Thing Called Love:. And the winner was..... JAIL HOUSE ROCK by Elvis!
My understanding was that the company that was employed to do the recordings of the European Tour screwed up badly and that some of the tracks in the album were actually recordings off the soundboard. If true would explain why the band got involved
This is one of my favorite Freddie songs. All the instruments played well together and sound incredible. Milton Keynes concert 1982 would offer you a sample of Hot Space songs without doing the whole album. Thanks for all the reactions!
When this came out I was 16 and playing bass in the jazz band. Another One Bites the Dust was required playing. Crazy Little Thing we covered in a country band live on the radio. It worked! My buddy who was the lead singer only really likes country, but he really liked this whole album.
In my had is burned the LIVE Rock Montreal 1981 version - Thrilling, driven pace! The studio showcases the effects and the song is articulated with skill (Mack touch). I admire it in many ways. Freddie touches notes with an amazingly delicate "tap" ...but the passion driving the live version elevates the song to another level for me. YES, go forward with Queen! You need more of their surprises too!

I hope you will do Hot Space, for me it’s the first Queen album I remember listening to when it came out ( I was 8 yo ) my dad liked and played Queen, ELO and Supertramp a lot and I didn’t get into the older albums until years later. Enjoy The Game 👍🏼

Awww, it's in the 60's? Poor baby. 😆 Oberheim synths were all the rage back then. It's what Geddy brought into Rush for those late 70's/early 80's albums. They were a relatively more affordable alternative to the Yamaha CS-80, but still had a huge, thick sound. But I agree -- very nicely done song. Again, Freddie singing against his own piano work... can't go wrong.
I knew Bohemian Rhapsody aged 5 when it came out. But it was buying this on cassette and hearing this song in the mid-80s that made me love them. It’s beautiful ❤❤❤

I hope you don't miss Innuendo album. I would like you to react to it, it's a great work, a return to their roots, with a special meaning because of the background of the band at that time, when they were closer than ever.
Earlier today engrossed in reading in-depth critique of bands....thrilled Queen was said to be above all else "good music". Loved reading that. Listening to you and this today. . .so pleased cause those 4 musicians brought us magnificence more than not.
I noticed in some comments that they say Queen's albums weren't good later on, but that's not true. Like all bands albums there are really great tracks, and some that are not as good. Please continue, Hot space has some good tracks you'll probably like. There is a lot of great music on those albums, I would skip Flash, Freddie does amazing vocals on it, but it was for the movie, it's the only album I didn't buy. You'll find jewels on the later albums too. I'm a fan since 1974 and I love how Queen could transition as time went on. Great reaction.

Got to play Hot Space. The guff that that album received was 40 years ago. It stands up today and is a great album. My opinion only. :)
The thing about bands which have any kind of longevity to them, is that they have to move with the times in order to, at least, try to remain relevant. They are, after all, there to make music that is popular in terms of how well it sells. That's always been the emphasis since they started making music on a professional scale. It has to be marketable. And, as the 80's came along, the felt the need to progress along with it, but in such a way that they still remained recognisable as the band they've always been. Freddie's vocals, for one, hasn't really changed all that music and Brian's guitar is instantly recognisable. The only difference is the songs. If they still came out with songs that were the same as what they were making in the early to mid 70's, sure, they'd have some of their loyal fans stick with them, but would in the same process, alienate a whole lot of potential new fans, who aren't as receptive. So, it's obvious that they need to change. Besides, it's a natural process. No-one stays the same or has the exact same tastes, opinions or outlook that they had 10 years ago. Queen were just following their own instincts and felt the need to do what they do best, i.e. to try new/different things and make a good job of it. They don't always get it right, but then that's part of the human condition. No-one's infallible, after all.
This song was the first single from the album and was Queen doing their thing. The first album to use synthesizers, no less. Something they would proudly proclaim the absence of on previous album covers. But, they decided it was time to move on and take advantage of what was happening in the, 'pop scene', of the late 70's and early 80's. And, why not?
Good interpretation. Pop rock was taking off and Queen didn't want to left behind.

I think it would be a good idea to get to hot space at least, and then if you want to finish early, to finish with the Queen performance at the Bowl in 82 which of course has songs from their previous albums, but then puts a live spin on a few of the Hot space tracks too. Though it's not too realistically too long until the end with Innuendo if you keep enjoying the songs, I guess. Thanks!

As i was 21 when this album was released i am one of those older Queen fans Justin. I do prefer the early Queen albums. But over the years i have grown to appreciate the change in sound and style in their later albums (up to a point) This album is no different.

The Game was my introduction to Queen at the age of 10. I had the vinyl and then right after got Live Killers. Needless to say I never noticed any sound quality issues at the age of 10. I’m glad you are enjoying these albums to consider moving on. You mentioned it in a comments section , but you definitely appear to like the Queen catalog better as a whole than the Rush catalog as a whole(larger quantity to deal with in Rush which is part of it). It would be interesting to me to see you go on into the 80’s. Other than Hot Space I liked them all.

If you do keep going after "The Game", then I would skip "Flash Gordon" -- not because it sucks, but simply because it's not really the kind of album that lends itself to individual track reactions. It's an interesting listen if you want to do it on your own.
I would, however, be interested in your reactions to "Hot Space", although if you don't like the direction of "The Game", it might be a bit of a slog to get through.
I like this one. Would like it even more, if it didn't sound so much like ELO. Check out the album "Out of the Blue" from just a couple of years earlier, and you'll get what I mean. It even sounds like a Jeff Lynne production. It's still very nice.

I’m not as much of a fan of anything between this album and Miracle but their stuff is still interesting to listen to. Even Hot Spaces. You should do an honorable listen to the Flash Gordon theme song. It’s so cool. And the movie is fun.

When I first heard this song in the Summer of 1980, I predicted that it would go to Number One on the charts in the U.S., which would give Queen TWO chart-toppers in America (Crazy Little Thing Called Love being the other song) from the same album. Well, to my surprise and disappointment, Play the Game was something of a flop commercially. Queen WOULD end up with two Number One songs off of The Game but, bizarrely, it would end up being because of the shocking popularity of a song that I (at the time) considered to be one of the least interesting songs Queen had ever recorded-- Another One Bites The Dust. So much for my predictive abilities
I think you did the right thing staying studio , after your done maybe a great idea because I’ve seen them 5 times & it’s damn close to how they sound really so don’t believe everyone judge for yourself please everyone has an opinion they are like assholes everyone has one✌🏼

True. They showed both incredible musical talent, a feel for changing musical tastes, and great business acumen. That's why they lasted after the 70s where many other groups are preserved there.
No don’t stop do Hot Space next! Despite what people say there’s a lot on there to like.
I never found ‘Live Killers’ very compelling…even when we, buying vinyl (which was expensive when working at McDonald’s at age 17) thought a live album was rare and much anticipated opportunity. After my first listen, I was like…”meh”. By that time, I was so steeped in the majesty and wonder of meticulously perfect and unprecedented compositions. They had already done so much in the first 7 albums, which I had cemented in my brain; perfection, majesty, unique beauty…that studio craft! ‘Live Killers’ landed for me as ‘sloppy seconds’. Queen studio work and Queen live are two different animals (I saw them live in 1980).
Those sales figures are definitely incorrect, there are better places for more accurate sales numbers, such as chart masters. It is a good decision to skip the Live Killers album, Queen at the bowl 1982 is better, as is Houston 1977, Hammersmith 1979 or Montreal 1981. Why listen to a patched together album when you can just hear and see one full Queen show. Live albums made sense in those years, but it is less relevant today. Hot Space is a fine album, the one half of the album is just a more funky style, this album influenced Thriller, so from that perspective it also interesting.
Maybe the last song that was the classic sound of Queen I loved. That said, I don't really listen to Queen any more, so I don't know how much of this album I will remember. Definitely the least played of the Queen albums I own. Live Killers is not a great album. The only chance I had to see Queen was on the Hot Space tour, and I turned it down. I think they were quite patchy as a live band. from what I've seen, great in some places, unconvincing in others.

Big mistake. Live Killers is fantastic, especially the trio 'Don't stop me now / Spread your wings / Brighton rock'. When it sounds this good, I don't care, how they produced these fantastic versions of those great songs.

Yea skip Flash Gordon lol but I’d continue onward with Hot Space because it’s an important stepping stone to the albums that come after that! 😊

This is a Queen epic squashed into three minutes. I'm one of the disappointed about 'Live Killers', but it's your channel. About when to stop, keep going to at least Innuendo. Queen basically had the careers of two bands. 70s and 80s Queen were different beasts, trying to achieve different things. Less albums in the eighties, but bigger tours. Complete the journey, you're halfway.
It's the era of Queen where I jumped off... no more Prophet Songs, no Love of My Life, No quirky pop of killer Queen/Loverboy , mainly too vanilla for me... that being said doesn't mean it's bad.. it's just not very exciting or interesting compared to previous releases..
Used to own Live Killers on vinyl. To tell you truth, I have heard better bootlegs than this.

Strange album. Half was fantastic and half was mediocre at best.
