    A few corrections
    1. They took the targaryens to bravos not pentos
    2. Robert was mad but he granted dragonstone to stannis not as an insult, but as his heir, thinking he was actually doing something nice for stannis

    • @TheRaptorsClaw
      @TheRaptorsClaw Před 2 lety +54

      Exactly, the title Prince of Dragonstone was historically the title of the heir apparent, the same as the Prince of Wales in modern day England. This the nomination was a great honour, but I think Stannis wrote the script for this video because he always saw slights where there were none, interpreting the nomination as an insult as he expected Storm's End, the hereditary holding of the head of House Baratheon.

    • @starwarsnerd100
      @starwarsnerd100 Před 2 lety +46

      IIRC the books never have Robert explicitly say why he gave Dragonstone to Stannis. All we have is speculation on how he felt about it. Stannis certainly interpreted it as an insult.

      @@starwarsnerd100 here is the things Martin said
      "Stannis always resented being given Dragonstone while Renly got Storm's End, and took that as a slight... but it's not necessarily true that Robert meant it that way. The Targaryen heir apparent had always been titled Prince of Dragonstone. By making Stannis the Lord of Dragonstone, Robert affirmed his brother's status as heir (which he was, until Joff's birth a few years later). Robert could just as lawfully retained both castles for his sons, and made Joffrey the Prince of Dragonstone and Tommen the Lord of Storm's End. Giving them to his brothers instead was another instance of his great, but rather careless, generosity."

    • @justinpower8232
      @justinpower8232 Před 2 lety +16

      Tbh, if Robert's goal was to make Stannis his heir it was a dumb move to give him Dragonstone. As Stannis puts it, Dragonstone controls just some barren islands while with Storm's End controls the might of the Stormlands. Events would have happened very differently if Stannis was the lord of Storm's End while Renly was lord of Dragons

    It's silly because the history of the Ironborn are full of overreach against the mainland powers, and they keep on losing.
    The revolt against King Robert Baratheon was even sillier because it gave Bobby B the one thing he craves the most, the one thing he's good at: War. And when he went to war against the revolt, he brought the might of the Seven Kingdoms with the biggest names of Westeros.

The Vale is like Hispania or Illyria with its unruly hill tribes. The Reach, Riverlands and Westerlands are rich provinces like Greece, Asia Minor or Sicily. Stormlands provides a great deal of manpower just like Gaul. Dorne is like the African provinces and finally the Crownlands is like Italy. There is also a lot of evidence that Daenerys's story of her birth is just... not correct. Like, everyone else seems to believe that Stannis's attack on Dragonstone was a hard-fought and difficult battle, which makes no sense if the garrison was already going to surrender.

      that's right , Balon lived thanks to Eddard thinking that as long as his only heir( Theon) is hostage, Balon will not rebel again which proved correct until Robb decided to send Theon back home and then they invaded the north capturing Winterfell killing seemingly his brothers ( Brandon and Rickon stark)

      After all Robert was not a cruel man in most cases (when it was not against the Targaryans, of course), and could convinced to show mercy. Maybe he just not WANTED to look like Aerys and end a noble line. A lord is a lord and even if he rebells, many kings do not exterminate a noble line easily.

    Show Stannis Baratheon some Respect he crushes the remaining loyalist forces at Dragonstone and TOOK the ancestral seat of house Targaryen by force arms he wasn't GIVEN it by some cowardly knights
    Don't you think it's strange that only Dany and Viserys remember the MASSIVE storm that was apparently raging in the middle of Robert's Rebellion and destroyed the entire loyalist fleet?
    That's because Viserys definitely made it up and Dany doesn't know what she's talking about because she was apparently just born and smuggled away JUST before Stannis showed up with His MASSIVE fleet and somehow managed to let the only ship that survived the storm escape?
    At this point let's be realistic, Viserys is a obvious liar and people need to stop using Dany has a historical source on anything
    Especially anything concerning Robert's Rebellion or history in general because she has been spoon fed Targaryen propaganda from birth

    The Ironborn did Robert Baratheon a favor. Robert was terrible at ruling, but exceptional at fighting. Suddenly all of Westeros was united under Robert’s leadership to crush a small rebel Kingdom that the rest of Westeros all hated.
    Proving that A. Robert was a worthy King, and B. All lords who challenged his rule would be hammered into submission. Just like Rhaegar and Balon Greyjoy.

Like during the War of the five Kings, Balon obviously did never know how much he could actually chew down...
