the guitarist needs his own band. he has such a powerful scream.
That's why he is in a band, and why this band is so great: they build off each other, and make one another that much better.
+Ghost Mermaid lmao this band isn't that great.
+R0ffleMyWaffless yeah...they are.
Ironic because now he does the screaming XD
@@JEB276 I mean, he's always done un-clean vocals duties since he's been in the band. He pretty much just took over for Justin, who was doing background screams.
Weird how they always sound better when your actually there. I saw em at warped and they killed it.
same!!!
It's the sound mix for the video quality. So your only getting a condensed sound.
God I remember when they were still just considered "a local band" in my town ❤️
They invited me to go to subway with them when they were in my town (:
I lived in rockford for about two years and I hoped I'd cross paths with them someday but that never happened
I don't think people understand that these are not the conditions in a studio.. Maybe it's just me but it seems like it would be difficult to scream/ run around in 90 degree weather and not having some issues with your voice. Garrett is doing the best he can in the conditions, so shut the hell up and enjoy the song.
YESSSS THANK YOU!
That’s how he screams tbh
I love his screams because it different and not basic
I was actually brought here by a hyperlink from a Reddit thread where they were discussing why it isn't common for harsh vocalists to also do cleans in the same band, when a lot of the things that go into singing and screaming training can be applied either way, so presumably, harsh vocalists would be decent singers too. And the first commentor I saw pointed out how difficult it would be to have to run around stage, amp up the crowd, do all that screaming and then switch gears directly into singing mode and then somehow not have it affect their vocals. The comment linked to this video.
I've never seen or listened to this band before, but dude was a trooper for sticking it out up there. He really tried.
He has a very unique vocal style that definitely isn’t for everyone
perfect drummer
Check out Chad Kent, Mike Portnoy (duh), and Danny Carey (duh x10000). They have taught me more than any teacher has through their drumming.
no one really gets how hard it is to scream for 30 minutes a day. i can tell he is struggling and i hate it cuz people get the wrong idea
A lot of people are bitching about his vocals. I gotta say, his cleans are actually pretty pitch perfect in terms of key, and although he cuts out on some of his screams, some of that is stylistic. People have to realize that records are a combination of perfect takes, multiple layers, and constant dynamic adjustments throughout the song. You CANNOT expect that from live bands at this level, although some do come close.
All you computer chair vocalists need to chill out. Who cares if he doesn't sound as good as he does on the record? I don't go to shows just to listen to music. If you're a fan of The Color Morale, you go for the experience and to have fun with like-minded people, and Garret Rapp puts on a great show while keeping the crowd engaged. That's all that matters.
I was here, They are amazing live... AMAZING
Amazing is an over statement. LOL
I love TCM. Idc how spent anyone is when giving their all. These guys are undoubtedly rockfords finest and many more. Much love. I've got my inner right arm imbedded with tcms hopes anchor which to me is an icon of never give up when you can't find the way, keep it pushing above all else, and always KNOW HOPE. That's just my own deal, but..Shout fellas ml
To everyone saying that Garrett is complete shit live; as a classically trained musician and audio engineer, I can tell you that he is on key probably 95% of the time. Its his dynamics that are a bit all over the place, which can make him sound as if he is singing off key; though these off kilter dynamics seem to be purely for effect.
It's not the worst thing to hit my ears. For one thing he looks exhausted. For another the crowd still gave them some good cheering. For one more this is definitely not the worst live performance in history.
Too many people on here complain about the vocals. He is putting in his raw emotion and expressing a topic that is very detrimental to some so who cares if it sounds bad? The crowd is having a good time, and so is the band. If you don't like it, hop off the video
+Luke Legend would you like a cookie?
Oh my god what the heck. Lol it doesn't even look like he opens his mouth when he is singing I WAS excited to see them this year on warped but now i dont know lol
Wish they could accurately recreate their studio sound live, vocals and all. Sad to say I was kinda bummed with their performance when I saw 'em at Warped this year. My favorite shows are when the band sounds incredible live, regardless of movement on stage. Even with all that said, TCM is still one of my top faves. They've got such a potent and percussive sound. Can't wait for their new album!
Takes a really talented bunch of musicians to sound as good live as they do on a recording. That is one of the reasons I never go to concerts because its just not the same as listening to them on a CD.
got to meet garrett at warped he's such a great guy.
Getting a Glassjaw vibe at times, love it.
To me it seems he couldn't hear properly to sing on time, because you see him pull his ear piece out and he sings more on time after that. I think he should let the other screamer scream more & he can concentrate more on singing as he normally has an amazing voice!!! Love you Garrett & The Color Morale!
Most bands rarely sound as good live as they do on a recording. You know you have found a kick a** band when they sound just as good live as they do on a recording and this band The Color Morale is not one of them. =)
Gustav Gjerstad
You're joking right?
Steve Carey is a fucking legend
Good stuff
thats funny people say they sound horrible. They sounded pretty solid at the Kansas city warped tour and in Lincoln last wee
i dont care what anybody says i think he sounds great live considering how exhausting it is to preform like this
I love your opinion
I get that he isn’t that great live, but props to him for losing an in-ear and not being phased by it
those brothers guarding the stage are like sheeeiiiit, watd i get myself into
DID A 5 YEAR OLD MIX THIS?
Weak in some areas but, over all great performance! Wish I got to see them this year..
So many people hating on the vocals here. Saw them in Detroit and they were sick. Warped Tour is a long haul and it takes its toll every once and a while. Secrets vocalist went down one day I know of. Garret is 33 years old. At 33 years if you get up there and do what he does then say something. Great band, great message! On point? no. but who cares.
Do I see one of the ferris brothers standing a little to the right of the drums?
I don't even care about the vocals. David from Breathe Carolina's vocals were kinda weird, but they put on an awesome show, which made it one of the most memorable sets! I love The Color Morale's energy on stage, and Garret's speeches are amazing. Sucks I had to miss their set, but hey, there's always next year.
I'm just saying, I've seen them 3 times down at sokol (the local venue) and they've been amazing. This video is a bad representative of their normal lives performances in my opinion.
I just realized all the guitarists in the band are using maple fingers boards.
TCM ❤️
they should let the guitarist scream more cause I like his screams
I like his hat! What hat is he wearing?
lol it looks like a chicago bulls
He had a throat problem, he wasnt full quality. It mainly affected his screams.
2019
I seen them live like 2 or 3 years ago on the fire and ice tour with we came as romans and emmure. They were alot better then. Maybe its the way he changed the style in how he siings. It doesnt translate to live shows like there older material did. Alot of bands dont sound the same live though not just them. Theres a few that are just as good live as on cd. Killswitch engage, children of bodom, threat signal, eleviette, lamb of god, and silverstein are a couple that come to mind.
guys its the very first show of warped, obviously hes gonna be a little rusty, it takes some adjusting to. i can assure by the time they made it to Ohio, Garrett sounded amazing, just like the rest of them.
Damn this was horrible the second screaming needs his own band he's a beast
He is a part of this one.
The vocalist does not own the band.
Old The Color Morale > New The Color Morale
They sound much better inside, I say that
I didn't know Jack from Achievement Hunter played guitar
I get that it's blistering hot out there, but plenty of other vocalists are able to sing well in the heat. Idk if he needs to have better breath control or not move around as much but he really needs to work on his voice.
Amazing how a studio can take a shit vocalist and turn them into something special huh.
Honestly everyone kind of did bad that day going through the videos
I've seen them live they were really good and I mean like ....amazing just this one was not good
Hey, ignorant unappreciative punk.
His voice is good he needs more control
1:23 - lost interst, wish he could scream his own lyrics!
Garrett is so good like damn
Why is he singing like that?
garret can't scream now
I really love this band but Garett seriously needs to get some vocal lessons
He should have vocal training from Melissa Cross. He'd probably sound better live. I'm noticing Garret really doesn't have good air support.
WhiteAsian22 yea i totally agree. He has a great voice he just needs to learn how to control it
WhiteAsian22 he actually had vocal training from her i asked him backstage how he gets his screams and he said thats where he learned my uncle is their manager so it was cool hanging out with them
David Allen Nice. I looked at the later warped tour performances and he's doing pretty well.
Why doesn't the guitarist do more screaming? He has an incredible scream.. and Garrett has a good voice, but really needs to fix his control issues.
The sound guy dropped the ball. The band is doing fine but the reason we are complaining is because the sound guy dropped the ball. Almost every live concert has some sort back track at least for the chorus.
update. so i actually checked them out and gave em a chance. still not good. no bueno. Im still gonna buy there recorded shit tho. that stuff is bueno.
I've seen a few live videos of Garrett. Why does he Rap the lyrics, it sounds forced as well. I am not impressed with them live. The guitarist vox are awesome.
this band needs a second frontman to do uncleans because Garret is going to wreck his voice
Bud Schaefer I'm calling a petition for Aaron to so all the uncleans.
+Westbrook Lawrence You got your wish!
Love this band, but Garrett needs to work on his vocals.
It's rather difficult to sing when you're monitor is uselessly hanging to your side.
Is the vocalist the only one who has in ears cuz the drummer doesn't even have any in
lol i think they need some more practice performing live
I think this album was vocally not their best. First 2 albums and their most recent one were their best. Vocally something they can actually perform live. It sounds like he’s straining his voice too much during this album time period
lmao
I saw them at warped on July 10th
My god they were the worst band i saw
Garret sounds so bad
My friend i saw there is a die hard tcm fan and he was wicked disappointed
Same. I really liked Know Hope and was happy to find out they were playing at Warped Tour. It was AZ, and sure i get it's hot and hard to scream, but other bands like Every Time I Die and One OK rock were godlike and were really energetic in the same environment, so I kind of don't accept that as an excuse. I was disappointed seeing them too, and missed The Word Alive, a home state band, just t be let down.
This is awful.
Garrett is butchering the beautiful song TCM as a group wrote, quite a shame.
The clean parts were pretty good, the screams sucked tho
Better warm up dude u won't make it through
this is not good. i was almost going to check them out this year, but i dont think ima waste the time when i could be seeing someone else. those vocals are not good and i loved this song.
How does ANYONE think Garrett sounds good? lol u need better bands in your life
Sounds pretty great recorded. Dunno what the fuck is going on live though.
Yeah.....his voice has deteriorated a TON. That's kind of gross sounding actually.
Chris Kenyon agreed man. Try yelling a full Know Hope song and try talk afterwards and see the outcome lol. And Garret does it every night for 1 2 years, it's no rocket science that his voice is deteriorating. He does sound exactly like in the album in their earlier shows after Know Hope was released though..
I saw him years ago before they released Know Hope and he was terrible too. Justin Hieser was a 600x better vocalist. They changed their sound cause Garrett couldn't do the old stuff live (my devil in your eyes & we all have demons) at all, and he can't even do this horrible album..
Garrett: Learn to play bass , sing and bring back justin. you suck
William Foley apparently you dont know how recording and live is very different recording you have breaks and you keep recording until you get the perfect sound. it probably took 5 or 10 times to get the perfect sound and you reach the pitches you need to. live.. you have to conserve your voice especially in tours.. you keep singing high pitches and you lose your voice 1/4 of the way through tour... learn
This is not that good. Could just be a bad day for garret
you've to watch him with we came as romans on their dvd
TERRIBLE. Worst than this, hahaha
1:42 OH PLEASE STOP THAT SINGING it is horrific!!!
That was so bad
wow this is one of the worst crowds i have ever seen
Garrett's uncleans are why his cleans are getting worse and worse. He isn't doing something right...
Glad I'm not the only one who realized this! I guess it's the result of consistently screaming/yelling like how he does in Know Hope. I've always wondered how could he yell on tour like that consistently for 1+ years, I mean trying to yell one song in Know Hope is already so difficult and he does it every night lol. Sad to hear what his voice has become, it's bound to happen with this kind of yelling really.
OMG I think it's just something with this presentation. I saw them live last year twice in a month and both times he still had voice to perform an acoustic mini set after the show and perfectly fine, but this... THIS IS HORRIBLE
So out of breath he can’t even sing or scream.
Terrible
This is fucking terrible lol, but then again they're only decent even in the studio. Overrated for sure.
TERRIBLE live vocals
