One of the greatest prelims ever played, the game alone was one for the ages, but with the context of the rivalry and curse between the two clubs made it that much better to watch
weirdly enough, paul chapman might have actually been the jinx, he was the first to say "we will never lose to hawks again" and the first game he didn't play against them, hawks won after losing 11 in a row with him in
I firmly believe this game decided the grand final. Had Geelong won, I doubt they would have beaten freo. If the Hawks won, they would be premiers, which is what happened.
Lmaoooo Selwood is pathetic 😂 if we kicked straight it would’ve been a blow out. We got infront and then proceeded to kick 4-5 more points. That’s the only reason. Absolute spud.
It's a pity then that Isaac Smith stuffed up that kick after the siren to win the 2016 Qualifying Final, wasn't it? You don't always beat the Cats when it matters most. Although the Cats didn't win the flag in 2016, they certainly went a long way to stop the Hawks from winning 4 flags in a row.
My personal view is that Hawthorn didn't break The Kennett Curse in this match, they just ended a run of 11 straight defeats against Geelong. If you look at what has happened between the 2 teams since then (to the end of the 2017 season), the Cats have still owned Hawthorn on Easter Monday (7 wins from 8 Easter Monday matches so far), and apart from the period when the Hawks beat the Cats on 4 occasions in a row between the end of 2014 to the end of 2015 (during a period when Geelong missed the finals), Geelong has beaten them on every other occasion since this match. In total I make that out to be only 5 Hawthorn wins against Geelong from the past 21 matches to the end of 2017 since the dreaded curse began after the 2008 Grand Final.
Geelong can win all their regular season matches all they want where as us Hawthorn fans will take the finals wins!!! 1989 Grand Final Hawthorn Defeat Geelong for their 8th premiership 2008 Grand Final Hawthorn Defeat Geelong for their 10th Premiership 2013 Prelim Hawthorn Defeat Geelong to go on and win their 11th Premiership 2014 Qualifying Final Hawthorn Defeat Geelong to go on and win their 12th premiership End of the day nobody looks back at Streaks and home and away matches they go and rewatch finals and thats where the hawks shine
You forgot to mention that Isaac Smith had an opportunity to win a final for Hawthorn against Geelong in 2016 with a kick for goal after the siren and fluffed that opportunity. If you are going to bring up all of the previous occasions when Hawthorn has beaten Geelong in finals matches, then how about you also mention the occasions when Geelong has won finals against Hawthorn too? Or is that just a typical Hawthorn supporter's mentality?
Darren Miles-Morland Yes Geelong beat us in the qualifying final in 2016... it didn't amount to much did it where as the times I brought up Hawthorn beating geelong Hawthorn actually went on to win the grand final 😝😂
Yes it did amount to much. Geelong may not have gone on to win the premiership that year, but they certainly played a part in preventing the Hawks from winning 4 premierships in a row, which for me was the next best thing to Geelong not winning it.

Greatest game of football ever
Elbows 97 yeah I think so
I think I like your comment
Elbows 97 I no
Get the hearse for the curse a Cometti Classic . But thank God the Hawks prevailed and this was the catalyst for the Three Peat .
Geelong very lucky hawthorn missed so any shots and kept the cats in it
I was so lucky to be here on the night! Best game of football I've ever seen
Hawthorn won the only game that mattered, proving Jeff Kennett right.
weirdly enough, paul chapman might have actually been the jinx, he was the first to say "we will never lose to hawks again" and the first game he didn't play against them, hawks won after losing 11 in a row with him in
I still get incredibly nervous watching this
My mum couldn’t watch the last five mins but she looked up right as Varcoe missed the goal and stared cheering cause she knew the hawks had won
Go Hawthorn!
Scott and Selwood sooking as usual
Greatest game I’ve ever watched
Whitecross was injured that game. A real shame because he deserved a grand final medal.
go the mighty hawks

That makes no sence lol
Come on the hawks 2014 to prelim against the power we gonna win by 21
Up the mighty hawks

look at what selwood is doing nowadays compared to the 13’ hawthorn roster and club itself
@@eethanc_9866 did Selwood win 3 in a row or have 4 flags? No? Didn't think so.
@@ChillStepa No he didn’t but if selwood is so pathetic where is that whole roster doing now
@@eethanc_9866 retired.... or playing for other clubs? Lmao you make no sense
This should have been the GF. Would be up there with 1989 as one of the best ever
At 2:55 is stepping outside the square during a kick-in no longer illegal?
He played on
It was actually a mark in the square from Duncan and not a kick-in from a behind.
VOLGORE21 ahk, thanks.
We beat them when it matters most!

Except for the fact that we lost to the Bulldogs and weren't good enough anyway!!!
Wow, what great culture you Cats have. Let;'s just hope Hawthorn lose!!! Such a soft club!!!!
2011 and 2016 Qualifying Final lol
Geelong will have their revenge this week! Im hoping for a geelong hawthorn 2014 afl grand final

honestly bro Hawthorn are about premierships not this "if this team doesn't win I'm happy" mentality
The 21/12/2012 end of the world SHOULD have happened to ensure that Hawthorn never had a chance of breaking the Kennett curse or win the 3-peat
hawthorn were very lucky chapman and enright weren't playing
Geelong were lucky we kicked so inaccurately!
Well said. Not to mention the Hawks were able to have a week off to freshen up as well
Geelong were lucky to have the Umpires.. Even commentary said it
Salty cats fans get over it
Charles WoodsonGOAT too true. And I'm a Tigers fan and I agree that was just pure luck
I don't like this video because hawthorn lost and I go for hawthorn there the best team
