Samsung's brand new Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G packs some awesome new camera hardware including two telephoto lenses with crazy impressive optical zoom capabilities.
However, the Note 20 Ultra and the S20 Ultra still offer some excellent camera performance, with very similar cameras.
In this video, Max took a bunch of photos with all three of these phones and then Vadim voted on which one he likes better, without even seeing any of these photos before.

I feel like the night shots on the s21 could be a lot better, the exposure is too high and that makes it look worse than the older cameras that have worse dynamic range but arent as washed out.
@@Knightmessenger you can turn exposure down on night mode if you click screen. It is a game changer as by default it makes everything a bit too bright IMHO

Don't forget the other phones had 12 months and 6 months of camera software updates. S21 is brand new. My S20U got significantly better after launch.
You wouldn't know it from what critics say!
Even my s10 got better with the updates, particularly Night mode shots, and since the android 11 update images appear even sharper and the focus seems a lot better IMO. I can only imagine the s21 ultra will get tweaks in the coming months.
You're absolutely right! I've got my S21U on 26.1. and it got the first CameraUpdate on the next day which improves NightShots noticable and the next update where for about 2 weeks ago and imrpoves the Focus ability in Zoom Photos (and maybe more, but thats what I noticed). So maybe when this Video was made at least the second update was probably not on.

Everybody is still hating on the S20 Ultra but it's still one of the best phone cameras out there and so overlooked. Focusing is also good now :) It was a bit wonky at launch though.

@bob loblaw yep. iSheep, always buying overpriced and so far behind phones and tablets, just because of the Apple logo smh.
iPhone 12, no 120hz, no USB C cable, no SD card, only 64GB storage, huge ugly & outdated notch, no 100x or 30x zoom, limited OS, etc. like WTH?! It's 2021, not 2015. But people still pay over $800 for the same crap. Same goes for the overglorified iPads, I can get the Tab S7 for like $500 less with pencil and keyboard, while the overrated & limited iPad Pros go for over $1000 with the $300 keyboard and $130 pencil. I own both iPad and Tab S7, and the Tab S7 is something sent from heaven! The multitasking blows the very limited iPadOS 14 multitasking out of the water. Multitasking alone, just makes me love this tablet.
Thank God for Samsung and its high quality and less expensive devices. Otherwise, if they didn't exist, we would all be stuck with iPhones and iPads :/
And btw, I used to be a huge iSheep and Android hater until I switched and used Samsung/Android for the first time in 2015. Now I'm a fan of both Apple amd Samsung.
I'm getting the regular S21 soon for $650-$700 (not $800) with 120hz (not 60hz), 128GB (not 64GB), small punch hole (no ugly & outdated huge notch) and so on. 😊

Get well soon Angelica! ❤ I had Note 20 Ultra before, but since I am the nail artist I use a lot of macro photography, and that phone just drove me crazy... it was always blury around edges... I switched to S21 Ultra and I am soooo happy, it is really a beast! Great video guys, I love your camera comparison!
I was very surprised with how the S20U fared and it even managed to beat its newer siblings in some (keyword *some* ) areas given the other two's cameras were specifically made to address and improve the issues on this one. The updates really improved it a lot and the internet hasn't really shown it except for a few 1 year reviews here and there (the rest remain outdated). I was expecting it to fare poorly compared to the other two but the differences were pretty much neck and neck and a lot of them seem to be down to personal preference though I still found the S21U as the clear winner here.

I was choosing between Note 20 Ultra and S21 Ultra. Side by side I noticed the display of the Note 20 Ultra has a yellow tint. Do you notice it as well?

Not bad considering I got my S20 Ultra (brand new) for $700!
This just shows how great the Note 20 camera still is. I think when the S21 did better, it did better by a large margin like at 12:19. Wow what a difference. S21 definitely improved skintones which is what people complained about with Samsung phones.
I don't understand why people think the Note 20 ultra's camera is irrelevant, it is like a five, six month old flagship? I'm not 100% sure on this, but isn't it also the same sensor as the s21 ultra? I could be wrong on that though.
@@tomp9002 The S21 was upgraded in the sensor and has a 10x optical zoom which Note 20 does not but Note 20 still does a fine job.
@@edwinelmejor08 No I know that the s21 has an upgraded telephoto camera, as well as an additional telephoto camera, but the main sensor is what I'm talking about. Pretty sure that they're both the same 108mp sensor in the note 20 ultra and s21 ultra
@@tomp9002 They're not. The S21 uses a new generation of the 108MP sensor that supports more features, lower noise, and more dynamic range. It should smoke the Note 20 Ultra after the software is fully optimized. Keep in mind the Note 20 Ultra and S20 Ultra share the same last gen sensor, and that images from that sensor have gotten much better over the last year of software updates.

With most of the night cloud shots you gotta look for the sharpness in the cloud linings. You guys picked a few where the clouds were filled in blurs
Who would be looking at clouds when the focal point is the object in the centre. Clouds details are no good if the centre of attention is a blur mess

For me this was the toughest camera comparison ever, it's very hard to choose one over the other!
I know I am knit picking but it would be nice if there were small black lines that separate each picture because sometimes it's hard to see where the photo ends. 3:06 is a good example of this.

Hi Max, I've just watched your iPhone 12 pro max vs. S21 Ultra blind camera comparison.
For your next blind camera comparison, could you please do the distribution of points in the following way?
Every round you can distribute a total of 10 points to both phones. This way, when one smartphone has taken a slightly better picture, you can give 4 points to one and 6 points to the other phone. On the other hand, when one phone is way better than the other, the better phone can win all 10 points whereas the other phone receives 0 points.
What do you think? Could you implement this?

Shows that the photo processing on all of the phones drops the ball at times. S21 did the best, but still messed up plenty of photos as well.

I think the reason the s20 was sharper on that one portrait shot was because of the ToF sensor

Pretty cool. And the S21 Ultra is just on launch software unlike the other two Galaxies. But all three offer great cameras. And they will all become more refined with further software updates. Also just a note, (No pun intended) the S21 Ultra has a second generation 108MP sensor. It's a bit more refined than the first gen 108MP sensor found in the S20 and Note 20. The core tech is still 100% identical. But Samsung made a couple of minor refinements.
S21U won for me. They're all doing their best though, so kudos to Samsung's great cameras.

i had the same focusing issue on my note20u at lowlight. i had to tap to focus on my screen otwise it's not gonna focusing
Can you please confirm that if you do 8K video recording on the S21, after 4 minutes it suggests you stop to prevent overheating?
I use Note 20 Ultra exynos and i got no notification for that when i try to record for 5 minutes

For me they ranked as you would expect so s21 first and then note 20 and s20. Difference between note 20 and s20 was really small though, with the s21 far ahead.

S20 Ultra is keeping up great because it has received a lot of updates throughout the year to enhance the low light sensitivity and the hunting focus issue. Note 20 Ultra has received a update but nothing special, and S21 Ultra basically is running almost the same pre-released software for the camera. S21 and Note will get better and better over times.

All of them are good, nobody really stares photos and trying to find something wrong or off... if it looks right away pleasing to eye, thats enough.
S21 looks the best overall though in this.
I know people are in a rush to get content out, but I would have like to see the S21 get some software maturity before doing camera comparisons. There have been 2 big updates since this video was made. In this video, the S21 is on its launch software, vs S20 and N20 which has had the better part of a year worth of updates and polishes.
That considered, the S21 still shows off what it can do without tweaks and updates.

I've been using the note series for some time and decided to go with S21 Ultra instead of the note 20. This makes me wanna switch back to the note line as I do not see a drastic enough improvements with the S21 Ultra.

@@uod2065 How exactly is the note 20 worse when I can go back to using my 512gb card again and using the spen? Also lighter and with a square design which I prefer. Might be worse to you but not to me. The only reason I went with the s21 is the 120hz at 1440p and the 4k 60 recording on all camera. But I've tried 120hz at 1080p and couldn't really tell the difference and because I have a 256gb version I'm now concerned with running out of space.
What we would do first after unboxing one.we may assess cameras unconsciously in every outing.

I have been a long time samsung user.Got samsung s21 ultra Exynos version i.e 12 gb variant
It's overheating with mild camera usage with just clicking picture.....not even recording video.I used cpu monitor app to track the temperature. It always reached 42 degrees and above with mild camera usage.The metal frame adjacent to the camera bump heats up.

I love all of them, those are beast of beast phones. Yeah theh maybe have differences but still same camera thing. For no bias its deoends on how you use the camera well. Whether its latest or the old ones. Just sayin. I love them all.

The S21 ultra, you have to turn down the bokeh after in gallery and it comes out more near the Note 20s look when the depth of feild is too shallow. It deserves more votes but not in a just point and shoot setting. That's why people should learn how to use it, by manual or CZcams .
Yesterday I was with a friend of mine, he has the s21 ultra and mine is the s20 ultra. I was able to make a comparison between the two in terms of camera/zoom, the focus, video and without a doubt his s21 ultra is much better than mine, the s21ultra's zoom is smoother, the image is clearer, and in terms of video , the details are insane. I will buy the S21 without a doubt
