1. The 10-24 is not officially a Red Badge lens. But man, it sure feels like it is. Thanks to viewer Mech-E for pointing this out! Actually, the it's the 8-16mm.
2. The chromatic aberration picture was taken with the 56 1.2, which I had with me on the same day I shot the 50-140 review. However, the CA is almost identical on both lenses, so the same info applies. Special thanks to Andrea De Meo for letting me know about this!
3. Itâs weather resistant but not water proof đ§Try not to throw in pool or dump water on it!

I've had many lenses so far in my career and I've noticed that the plastic lens hoods (the well built ones) are actually better than the metal one, in my opinion, because if the lens falls or takes a hit, the metal ones tend to bend the lens frame

I have owned the 40-150mm for a couple of years and this review is spot on. I have shot scores of events and concerts with it, and it is for me a must-have foundational lens. And the lens hood does truly suck. Thanks.
Have the 55-200 but just bought the 50-140. I do a lot of bird photography in lowish light. The extra stop of light is often useful and I can add the 1.4 TC. Finally, I do a lot of flying birds, and so the rapid autofocus is important. But I do like the lighter 55-200 for travel. Enjoy your videos.

Important safety tip on the variable ND, real easy to do , same as locking your keys in the car. The airplane analogy for purchase decision making was spot on and accurate. I have the 55-200 and yes it's somewhat limited , but it gets me to the destination in coach.
A fair assessment of the two lenses. Thank you. I prefer the bokeh and additional reach on my 55-200mm, and it's so much lighter when hiking than the 50-140mm. But it does need good light. To off set that set back, I took the extra $1000 and bought the multi-purpose 80mm macro. It's a 2.8 prime that, in my opinion, is Fuji's sharpest lens, sometimes too sharp for portraiture even (in which case I crank up the luminence a bit to compensate). The 80mm is super for textures and paired together, the 55/200 telephoto along with the true 1:1 80mm macro gives me way more options when shooting.

Excellent review. I switched from the 55-200 to the 50-140 for the fact that the 50-140 allows shooting with a tele-extender. Besides that, both are are outstanding.

I have the 55-200, great general purpose lens, went on a Fuji sponsored day out using the 50-140 lens, brilliant a joy to use in the environment I was in. For carrying gear all day long, Iâll stay with the 55-200, plus my skill level couldnât justify the cost.

I now have both of those lenses - and even when I only had the 55-200, I think itâs a slouch on autofocus! It also has terrible handling of light when in backlist conditions - the 50-140 completely dominates it in both categories, and is just insanely fast in autofocus in general

Very helpful video, thank you. I am about to switch from Nikon to Fuji and am looking into lenses. Midway through your video I had already added the 50-140mm to my Amazon basket, but will now be removing it again to replace with the 55-200mm!
Nice review I just picked up this lens very happy with it sits nicely on my XT2, I disagree with the hood being metal as it will add weight, as lens is heavy enough, could get bent, and scratched easy.
One of the best lenses I own by far. Much needed for the Fuji system.
Hey Adam it totally is!!!! Love it!! I've gone back to it after dealing with the 16-80mm frustration lately. The 50-140 is just such a great piece of glass for sure.
My favorite part of this video, Pal, was to see how OIS works on and off in the same setting and so I'd love it if you did one of these on the kit lens. Or all that you have. I want to see if the OIS works the same way for all the Fujifilm cameras or if this one is just that good. Because that is really good like that eliminates the need for body stabilization.
I actually love his reaction during that OIS part. It's so precious to see someone genuinely excited about photography and not melancholic about it.

I very recently got this lens. On sale, and not a bad price. I know this video is old, the lens is old, but the photos I've gotten from this and my XH2 are just mind blowing. This lens took some of the best shots I've ever taken. So happy I got my hands on this!

Another great video, Chris. Aren't kids great? Sometimes they are better than an adult crew. They love being involved and are eager to learn. We have a ten-year-old-boy and he's an excellent helper. The 50-140mm is out of my price range for now; for now I have to stick to the 50-230mm that I have.
Thanks for a great review. I LOVE this lens and it has become one of my most often used and favorites. Your crew is stellar and it's fun to see dad and kids having fun. One note though, please back off a bit from the caffeine next time, you move so fast through the comparisons, I can't focus on one before you're back on the other or on to your next picture/point. Great review and advice. I am new to the Fuji system and got an X-S10 with the 18-55mm F2.8-4 lens. It's a great little combo so far. Now I am torn on which telephoto lens to get; the 55-200 looks decent, compact and good value for money; the 50-140 looks great image quality overall but the size & weight? And now we have the new 70-300 which obviously has the slower variable aperture range but it is weather-sealed, has OIS, a focus limiter and is compatible with teleconverters too! In the UK the 55-200 is ÂŁ649, the 70-300 is ÂŁ729 & the 50-140 is normally ÂŁ1,300; however a store has a special offer with ÂŁ350 discount, making it ÂŁ950. Tough choices...
Great video. Very informative. I am considering the 50-140 but I will rent and see if I miss it a week later. If I don't miss it I will get the 55-200. Both will pair well with my H1

Love your review and your channel. The best channel I followed so far. Can I have your recommendation, between 55-200 and 70-300, which one should I get? Already owned 18-55. I'm just a hobbyist, not a pro photographer.
Great video! I have the 50-230, which isn't a great lens, but which does the job most of the time.
It s a great lens. Its light and sharp and has the reach till 230. I own the 50-140 2.8 for portraits and working in low light situations + the heavy X-H1.
But for hiking is the XT 20 and the XC 50-230 better.

I would like to reply to the ND-filter issue you had. On the lens hood, at the 50-140 marker there is a plastic cover you can slide off. Designed purely to take filters off.

Great review. I struggled with the choice (50-140/2.8 vs 55-200) for some time but since I shoot a lot in ice rinks (crappy light) and wildlife at blue hour and needed the reach I went for the 50-140. When the light is a bit better I can add the 1.4xTC and get ~300mm FF equiv. I waited for the Fuji sale before I bought ;-) (but yes, it is not inexpensive).
Yeah, good choice to go with that one. Definitely low light in the rinks for sure -- and fast speeds needed!!! It was great that you waited for the sale first... some of us are, ahem, not so patient!!!! đ

I have the 55-200 and honestly I really like it. It's only downside is the lack of weather sealing. I bought mine used for like $350 and then with the money saved I bought the 16-55 2.8 which is just a dream of a lens imo.

Wonderful review of a incredible lens. I have my UV filter and hood backwards. Itâs no problem for me.
This is my primary work horse lens. Got it used and totally worth every penny. The OIS on it is awesome.

Glad to ear that. However, my time with Canon crops has kinda spoilt me. Not a deal breaker but I miss my low light focusing ability at f/2.8 of the Canons during events. Either that or next time I need to switch off Exposure Preview during low light events and get a dedicated Fuji Lens. Was using my trusty Sigma 17-50mm Canon mount. Having said that the 7Dii and 80D are rated to focuss in lower light than the X-T2. Oh well.

Hi Great review on the 50-140 lens I have just bought this lens with the 1.4 tc, I was going to trade in my 90 f1.2 but I am unsure now should I keep both??
I had a huge deal on a new one so couldn't resist. I love to use that lens. I bought it for shooting my son playing soccer but finally it's one that I use the most. It's nice to handle and I like the reach. It is very versatile. I understand it's a little big over other lenses but does not bother me. One annoying thing sometimes it does not want to focus. It didn't happen often but it happened more than once.
If you take it for travel you probably need a second wider lens. 72mm FF equivalent can be frustrating when you can't take distance like a facade in a shallow street.

A quick tip to remove stacked CPL filters - Stretch a rubber band over the thread ring of the CPL filter - then follow with a close fitting sting lasso and pull it carefully tight in the direction to un-screw. Cheers from AU.
Leave it to someone from AU to have the awesome and practical solution!! Thanks Ian, I'll need to do that in the future. Down here in the Southern US, we tend to break lens filters with pliers, LOL.
@@pal2tech Even easier, there's a slide out panel on the lens hood that allows you to access the screw on filters...Fuji thought about it obviously. Cheers!

Yeah the TC compatibility was the one feature for me that made me want to see how good it is. It's interesting. I do prefer the 90mm overall as one of my favourite lenses of all time. That and the 56

That was a great review. I was recently curious about these 2 lenses. I would never spend more money for less range.
While the review was great, feel he didn't address one of the biggest differences between the 2 lenses that, to some, will justify the cost difference by itself; weather sealing. The 50-140 is weather sealed, the 55-200 is not. If weather sealing is a requirement for your telephoto zoom, then the 50-140 is your only choice between these 2.

Love this lens. I have the XT5 that has OIS, should I turn the OIS on both lens and camera or on one or the other?
I was able to score this lens while I was in Japn recently. Love it, and the pictures it takes. One thing that I found as an annoyance was the missing arca-swiss groves on the handle/foot. What's up with that. Every lens I've owned with the foot has always had the arca-swiss groves, but not this one. I ordered my favorite plate with the groves and now I'm happy. I see you added a plate too. . .

If comparing between 50-140mm and 70-300mm, which one is more suitable for sports photography?
Looking forward for the Fuji system. 'Fighting around' options definitely 'pressured' by the traditional brands in sports photography - expensive and weight is a factor vs more affordable and weight saving...
