  • After numerous attempts I finally managed to clear All Zones with Coda in Crypt of the NecroDancer. While this run took many hours of practice and was very challenging to clear, I have to admit that Coda is quite possibly the most fun character in the game for me personally. The fast paced gameplay and quick thinking you are required to master makes it all so satisfying.
    If you are a fan of the game, I recommend you give this character a shot. Thanks for watching!
    Zone 1 - 00:00
    Zone 2 - 04:27
    Zone 3 - 10:43
    Zone 4 - 14:50
    Achievement / Trophy: Impossible, Right?

    Interesting that you got this pre-dlc and without phasing mode, that certainly made it more difficult. Huge props to you and congrats on your platinum

      Thanks man! It was a tough journey to say the least.
      I remember watching your video about the game back in the day. I did rewatch it recently after obtaining the Platinum and it hit differently but in a good way.

    Just unlocked coda myself and looking for good strategies. I was wondering why you avoided boots of damage in the shop and why you transmuted shield spell instead of the ring of becoming? Surely it would be better to get the ring of wonder and boots of damage then keep shield spell? Thanks :)

      He wanted to hold on to 2 damage to make sure an early Deep Blues fight was not gonna end with a knife throw as he only has 3 HP. If it ends with a knife throw then there will be a gold right on where the knife is, thus an automatic fail

      @@undermellow-xl7du ohhh I see that makes so much sense! I did notice he was sticking at 2 damage but I couldn't work out why. This helps a lot, I'll start using it myself! Thank you :)

      Sorry for the late response but that's basically it. I didn't want to fight deep blues with damage 3+.
      As for general tips I don't have a lot of things to say besides "practice". First tips that come to mind are:
      1. Get comfortable with double tempo and finish the game zone by zone. Enemies that move every 2 beats will give you trouble at first but it gets better with time.
      2. Learn the quick kill strategies for every boss and learn which items are best for you and when to have them throughout the run. For example, you should hold onto Fireballs if you know you still haven't faced Coral Riff.
      3. Decide if you are going to use phasing or not. Personally, I tried it sometimes but it didn't feel like it was helping me much. Actually, it felt like it was making things awkward so I decided to stop taking ring of phasing.
      4. Take breaks within the day, don't brute-force your way through the runs. If you notice you keep dying early in Zone 1, that might be good sign to stop playing for a bit.
      5. Always have an escape route and don't leave too much gold behind alongside that path. Try killing enemies in corners you know you won't ever step on. Also, try killing enemies on top of pre-existing gold piles so that the gold stacks up.
      6. Try getting the Lucky Charm from killing a Leprechaun without using any bombs. You can just dig 2 blocks of dirt and then trap the Leprechaun inside it, it's not hard. Watch how I do it at 03:05.
      7. Don't leave too many things alive. Monsters that don't move such as Green Slimes are not a problem but I'd recommend killing Blue Slimes and especially bats (even if you have the Lucky Charm) because they might pose a threat when running back to those rooms while getting chased by a Dragon. If you are certain you won't be going back to those rooms, you can just have mercy and let them live.
      8. Don't rush to get an item from the shop, especially early in the game. You are allowed to get only 1 item from the shop per floor so choose wisely. Search the whole floor first, open the chest (there is at least one on every floor), see if there are any glass shrines and then decide which item from the shop you are going to get. For example, if you know there is a glass shrine, you might choose to take a torch from the shop to then activate the shrine and get a glass torch.
      I'm sure there are many more tips but most of these you learn by playing and it might even be better to come up with some tips on your own. Whatever the case, I hope my tips help and if you need anything else you can message me!

      @@slien644 Wow. What a helpful response! You my good sir have just earned a subscription. I can't tell you how much that advice helps. For now, I'm doing coda zone by zone. I've beaten zone 1 but am struggling with the higher speeds on 2-3. I've also practiced each boss extensively with the base kit but could probably do with more knowledge on some quick kills. I will refer back to this comment a lot, so thank you again for all your advice!

    My question is how you deal with the double tempo, I can't take three steps without missing a beat on coda or bolt

    • @SkullTheLegless
      @SkullTheLegless Před 27 dny

      Try recalibrating in the settings

    • @slien644
      @slien644  Před 13 dny

      Try recalibrating till you find what suits you. For me it was 120ms audio latency as far as I can remember. Also I remember getting better at double tempo when practicing Coda and not Bolt.
      With Coda just staying alive feels like an achievement and stresses you out to keep the tempo going more than with Bolt. This is what worked for me at least.

    I am super confused, why not take the boots of power on 2-2? It's not like you would have had to give up anything and it would be a valuable damage increase

    • @GoGoForIt

      And why no transmute on the ring of becoming in 2-3? That was an amazingly lucky setup

      This question was answered in another comment: He wanted to hold on to 2 damage to make sure an early Deep Blues fight was not gonna end with a knife throw as the king only has 3 HP early on. If it ends with a knife throw then there will be a gold right on where the knife is, thus an automatic fail. So yeah early deep blues with 3+ damage is no bueno.
