This Morris Frances 26 is a small sailboat big enough for the world. She was made in Maine by the venerable Morris Yachts (now part of Hinckley Yachts), but could take you anywhere you'd like to go. She's petite but packs a punch - sturdy, comfortable, nimble, and built to last this Frances 26 is designer Chuck Paine's first boat and the one that established a longstanding relationship with Morris Yachts and was the beginning or a prolific career by a designer who has developed some of the most beautiful boats on our planet. Exquisite, loaded with charm, and with the simple utility perfected by Chuck Paine and Morris Yachts, this Frances 26 is absolutely perfect, especially with the extended cabin which increases the space below significantly. Well-balanced and well-built: what more does one need? Well, you need one! And she's for sale and the asking price is $44,000. You can't buy a new boat for this price, but you could buy this one and know that you have purchased a winner - pure and simple.
We have no financial interest in this sailboat.
    This beauty has SOLD! (02/26/2024)
Thanks for watching and please subscribe and like and all that good stuff. We appreciate your support!

Relative to some of the “price” comments…..If you understand the build quality of these boats (I own one) the price is very fair. Look at what a Nor’sea 27 or a Dana 24 is selling for these days and you’ll know. These boats (Nor’Sea and Dana included) rarely come on the used market and the price point is reflective of the exquisite build quality, the legendary respective designers, and eventual resale value. They are true cruising yachts, but they don’t drain your wallet with marina fees and everything else that goes up exponentially by the foot. I actually thought this one was a complete steal knowing the market and considering the care that has clearly been lavished upon her. I turned down over $50k for mine last year because I knew I’d regret selling her. To build a new Frances today, you would be looking at well over a $200k++ price tag. You can absolutely sail a very nice larger boat for less money, but when you are sailing one of these, it is a magical experience…every single time. And it is impossible to leave the boat without spinning around for just one more look!

I spent 2 weeks cruising a sister ship (Victoria 26) from UK to Holland and Belgium in 2000. With 2 youngish, fairly uninhibited couples on board, accommodation was plausible and interesting. For cruising, extra jerry cans of water are essential
Sadly, the big issue was sailing performance or lack of it. The weather gods were unkind to us, and we had either light winds of around 7 to 8 knots in which it was difficult to maintain over a boring 2 knots or 18/22 knots. We found trying to go to windward in over 20 knots apparent against a short sea impossible, and had to turn back more than once. Suspect the boat may have been overloaded with cruising gear, which probably did not help.

Two huge thumbs up for touring one of my favourite boats ever. All those little chuck Paine/Morris yachts are fabulous. Was actually considering a purchase of Loon and spoke w the lovely owner over FB. sadly I’m still living inland but the minute my wife and manage to move east then I’ll be shopping for something just like her. Great tour. Do more 🙂

@@boatfoolsFYI…there is an upcoming article about the Morris Frances 26 that is expected to appear in the May/June issue of Good Old Boat magazine. Great choice of boat to feature. The Francis 26 is one of the 20 boats featured in John Vigor's book "Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere". I would think that this boat is so well respected, admired and in such high demand among cruising enthusiasts that it will sell very quickly and most likely already be gone by the time of this posting.

Great boat! I am circumnavigating in a 34-foot boat (huge by comparison) and all I would add is: (i) the smaller (simpler) the better, in terms of being able to stay on top of maintenance; (ii) the only limitation with a small boat is capacity to carry spares, food, fuel and water. If you are heading to remote areas, therefore, there are some constraints on what you can carry, which you have to trade off against the benefits of simplicity. If you are in home waters, however, there is only upside.

And she sold! Don't worry. Our shoes were vetted and are boat friendly. I'm very, very careful on OPBs (Other Peoples' Boats), and my soles don't leave marks nor do they pick up gravel/pebbles, etc (a very minimal tread). I specifically tried them out on my own vessel for this purpose. Lastly, it was very cold... And I really appreciate your attention to detail! I would freak out if someone just waltzed onto my boat with typical street shoes without a care in the world. We are being super careful - and we're typically with the owner.
