If you want to put the perfect amount of line on your reel what you do is multiply the diameter of the line with the length that is specified on the reel. This will determine how much area you have to spool. From there you minus the diameter of the braid you have multiplied by the distance. This should than give you the area that you have to put the backing on your reel. It will save you the trouble of spooling the mono after the braid.

That's definitely a good tip! However, I get worried doing this because something the line capacity the company puts on the box is not always 100% right and it can change depending on how much tension I put on the line while spooling! However, overall that is still for sure a good way to do it! And I might give it a go next time I have to fill up a spool with some mono to save me some time 😂 Thank you! :))

I've asked pro tackle people if your spool is plastic use only monofilament if the spool is aluminium then either mono or braid can be used

Yeah that might be a good thing to consider! Most good reels nowadays have metal spools, or at least where I am in Australia because we do lots of saltwater fishing and braid seems to be the most popular option here! I prefer braided line, it lasts longer than monofilament and is a lot stronger for less diameter!
