  • On April 19, 2023, an armed robbery took place at a convenience store in North Miami. The suspects fled the scene in a white Lexus, prompting North Miami Police to request assistance from other agencies. The Lexus was later spotted in Opa-Locka, and despite efforts to surround the car, the suspects managed to escape. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) then joined the chase as the Lexus traveled through several cities at high speeds. The pursuit continued northbound on Florida's Turnpike into Palm Beach and back into Broward County.

      Majority of Florida's traffic in major cities is tourists in rentals. A lot of people are already out of their element. Introduce emergency vehicles and they freeze up. Also the FLHSMV is heavily underfunded so traffic education is crap because of it. We joke that the most popular race track in the state of Florida is Interstate 4. The second most popular is Daytona International Speedway.

      @@FurryWrecker911 I'm from a small town in the northeast, population 29k. Low crime area and we still pull over for sirens, even though it's not a common thing, but it's commonsense. Some people just can't get it through their head. They hog the left lane which should only be used for passing, and pull over for sirens.

    • @FurryWrecker911
      @FurryWrecker911 Před rokem +5

      @@DroneStrike1776 It's not the same. You are speaking from the perspective of being in your hometown. You're in your comfort zone. You don't have to put any focus on where you're going, just what is going on around you. If you're a tourist anywhere else in the world, you're gonna be so in your own bubble of trying to get from A to B that it is easy to lose awareness of your surroundings. Orlando is like that. So many people are new to the area that you deal with folks so focused on getting to point B that they have no focus left to notice their surroundings.
      Diverting here for a moment, pulling over is "common sense?" I think we as a society need to look up the core principals of common sense. One of the those parts is you shouldn't need any special training to understand how something works. If that were true, we wouldn't need driver's education. Furthermore driver's education wouldn't vary from state to state, or country to country. Road laws are NOT common sense. India requires you move out of the way, but it's a coin toss if people will bother to obey it. America it's pull over to the shoulder (Hell, some places like Arkansas it's you MUST yield to the right as first responders are required to pass only on the left, unless otherwise instructed by a supervisor) Germany is so well regulated that traffic is already pulled over for blocked motorways before the first responders even get there. Nothing about how to handle it is standardized among our race, let alone common.
      Common sense is fire burns, falling hurts, rain is wet, and sharp-looking things are probably sharp. The regulatory handbook that defines road laws and how to operate a motor vehicle isn't something you naturally experience during your comeuppance. Sure you may pick up bits and pieces of it passively, but you don't KNOW driving unless you're actively partaking in it. You need to be taught how to handle it, pay attention to the lesson, and you need to actually care about it, which is more effort than what common sense implies. Common sense is you touch the hot thing, you get burned. Can't make it more complicated than that.
      I digress though. The short of it is people get stupid when their mental capacity is maxed out by other things keeping their focus. It's not about common sense. It's about giving the slightest fig of care about your surroundings, and paying attention to your driver's ed instructor on how to handle emergency situations/caring on how to handle it should you find yourself in that situation.
      And above all else, tourists suck.

      @RonKris Před 23 dny +1

      @@chadmark88 I've known people who drive in the left lane just to make other drivers angry. I know some states now have laws against driving slowly in the left (passing lane). Georgia's law says if people are wanting to pass, you must yield/pull out of the left lane and let them pass; it does not matter if you are doing the speed limit or going faster than the speed limit. You must pull out of the L lane.
      This law was written and put up for a vote (and passed) by a former Georgia State Patrol officer. He, like many of us, has seen this lack of concern for other drivers by these left-lane slow pokes.

    My father taught me many things about driving. The most important was what to do when you hear a siren or see emergency lights.
    First get out of the way as fast as you can safely do so.
    Next, stay out of the way for a while; emergency vehicles are rarely alone, specially if they are police or fire. They travel in groups.
    If you just saw one, the odds are good more are coming from all directions.
    I remember seeing why in upstate NY while visiting friends. The central alarm of the fire department started to wail and my friend told me to pull over and stop.
    In less than 3 seconds people were running or driving real fast to the station; many from their regular jobs. It felt longer than that but 3 minutes later the roads were clear and the fire trucks on their way all because people pulled over and waited.
    You never know what the responders are doing, but they need to do it fast. Do your part and get out of the way.

Theses sounds are tones and they have different frequencies to penetrate.

      I feel the same way about those idiots in the left lane. I only use the inside lane for passing. If there's no slower vehicles ahead in the center or outside lane, I move into either one of them.
      Another similar issue on major highways is drivers going too slow, causing a lot of traffic. Then there's those heavy duty vehicles that are nearly side-by-side with another heavy duty vehicle, causing delays.
      I've seen vehicles only going 40 mph in a 55 mph zone, causing a whole line of traffic. And I've seen plenty of tractor trailers and other heavy duty vehicles in the center lane traveling nearly stationary to another similar vehicle in the outside lane instead of passing before getting into the outside lane.

    That was one scary chase, for sure. I'm shocked by how many people on the road seem to be asleep. Yeah, you might miss the first unit that came flying up on you... but after multiple cop cars go flying past at twice your speed... it seems like it would get your attention enough to wake just about everyone to completely wide awake and alert. They should put limits on Xanax for freeway cruising. "Speed kills" but oblivious drivers are deadly.
    All my respect to those officers risking their lives trying to catch the bad guys. It looked like they called off the pursuit but when it got active again, all hell broke loose. Besides the danger they face as they run right into the thick of things... the thousands upon thousands of unwitting citizens makes it all the more difficult.
    That was probably the most intense and bravest display of police determination I've ever seen. WOW! I only saw the one that they grabbed. I hope they got all of those thugs and I especially hope some wimpy DA's don't just kick them loose in a few days to go back out to the way of crime.

    I actually have seen this chase before, but from the news helicopter's viewpoint. That second guy was very hard to catch. He swims, runs across multiple streets, and then hides inside a house where he is finally captured. Terrifying really!

    After watching so many chases of the Arkansas State Troopers & Police, I now understand how important it is to pit the suspect asap.
    These chases should never been allowed to go this long. I bet the Officers get super angry at policy!!

    Now look at the number of times just one cop car created danger for drivers and pedestrians. Multiply that by 10? 20 persuers? All that risk to life for a robbery suspect?
    This sh*t needs to get under control.

    That was bonkers! It’s amazing that with so many vehicles being driven at high speed in congested traffic and against traffic that there weren’t catastrophic collisions involving innocent drivers. The city, county, and state Risk Managers must have nightmares about these types of high speed pursuits.

    Those troopers have nerves of steel. Driving those speeds on the shoulder was intense.

    After all that BS he put the cops through, they should have let the K9 discuss the error of his ways for about 30 min.
