For me sanji is the worst among the SHs and I don't know why oda made him way beyond worst in wci arc
      1. He is among the very 1st members of the SHs so he must know his captain very well.He witnessed the enies lobby situation where luffy took fight with the whole world government to save his crewmate (nakama) and even survived the buster call. This proved that no matter what happens luffy will never leave his frnds behind. So beating him so badly and even saying that he cannot become the pirate King was useless and this only proved that he doesn't know his captain well.Instead he could have just whispered in his ears about the situation he is in and I am sure luffy would have understood and people say that ge did that to show his family that he doesn't care about SHs but as soon as he get on the carriage he started crying this proved to his family members that he was acting.
2.He knew how stubborn luffy is so when he said that he will eat nothing but food cooked by him sanji should have understood that luffy was serious
When luffy was fighting for sanji,Sanji was just preparing food for pudding and the thought never crossed his mind that his captain might be hungry. He didn't much cared about what happened to nami and luffy when he saw such a large army was moving towards them instead he was happy about his wedding. If only sanji didn't knew pudding's true intentions luffy would have starved to death.
3.I don't think he ever respects a woman
If he respects them he would never think of peeping and seeing girls naked.
He beated absalom for peeping while nami was bathing but the same thing he wanted to do this made him hypocrite.
His chivalry about not kicking a women is good but when your frnd life is in danger you can't always follow ur chivalry and his chivalry only applies for beautiful girls. If he really followed his chivalry he won't have kicked big mom.He also insulted the transgenders of the akabaka kingdom
4.Among all the straw hats I think only he is not determined towards his goal.I think his only goal is to marry a beautiful girl.He never tried to search for the all blue.He is ready to die with a nosebleed but he wants to see the most beautiful mermaid so what about the all blue he forgets that everytime when he sees a girl
      So conclusion
He doesn't have a strong determination,no respect for women, a vague chivalry and doesn't totally understands his captain
All this makes him a bad character in one piece

@@subhajitdey6618 I think he fought luffy because he was pressured and not thinking straight there was so much things going on and they were in a yonkos territory he was hoping that luffy would leave and show germa that they weren’t allies but it didn’t work because luffy wouldn’t leave a crew mate behind. For your third reason sanji does actually have chivalry oda already addressed the thing with big mom in an sbs, he said that big mom was attacking luffy and reiju so sanji did a defensive kick not something that would hurt bigmom just like he did in ennies lobby with khalifa so it has nothing to do with being ugly, because in thriller bark he wasn’t attracted to lolas shadow but he still restrained from fighting her because she was a woman. And sanji is definitely determined to find the all blue like he promised zeff it’s just overshadowed by a gag.

*Unpopular opinion* (disclaimer: zoro is my favorite op character)
But I actually think Zoro and Sanji are actually best friends.
It just kind of seems obvious. Oda shouldnt have to state it. Just their dynamics in general. Thats how me and my best friends have always acted or treated each other. Except for when shit is actually serious in which case we're kind and supportive.
The name-calling, the rivalry, all of it. Thats what best friends do. Zoro was actually even worried about Sanji and Luffy called him out on it back in Zou, or a not so clear example, back on the train to Enis Lobby, or even the few times they've tag-teamed together and their synergy.
I dont quite understand where the fan-boying goes out of hand and claims of who;s"better" or who "sucks". Its dumb.
They are best friends. And if that isnt enough to convice you just consider the fact that the strawhats in general kinda consider eachother family. If you dont believe that last statement and want "proof" than all of this should just go over your head.

Sanji has always been my favorite strawhat for allot of the reasons listed in this video, but what I appreciate most about Sanji is simply his diversity of usefulness and personality. He is the only crew member you will see making a serious monologue like zoro in one scene, and goofing off with luffy and ussop in the next. He is the only one of the monster trio that also serves a vital utility role on the ship (being the cook) The smarts to come up with a tactical plan (Like ussop) and the strength to protect his allies from strong opponents (like luffy/zoro) He is something of a jack of all trades which is something I personally relate to.

    • @jinnip
      @jinnip Před 5 lety +98

I completely agree, especially for the first part! In the monster trio, he's the only one who's role isn't exclusively "to be strong." Luffy's the captain, so yeah, he's the strongest. Zoro's a swordsman, and his role is to be strong as a swordsman; it's basically his job to be strong. Sanji, however, has a role outside of being strong. He's there to cook, which is hella important - he just happens to also be really strong, strong enough to be compared to the members of the crew who are literally just there to be strong (Not trying to undermine Zoro and Luffy tho, they're my favs lmao).

He is also shown as rouge character in several arcs like enies lobby or alabasta where he has the foresight and cunning to take out some threats out before they can do more harm. But he is also supportive of lyssop and be kind and loyal. Oda had to nerf him with the not hurting women part or he would overshadow the others in the crew regarding fighting, because he is not a simpleminded idiot like zorro and ruffy, in all respect..

You didn't state the important thing about Sanji : When the weak members (Nami/Usopp/Chopper) need protection the first person they seek and they look after is Sanji. And this is why his pervy character is useful sometimes because he kind of senses that Nami or Robin are in some serious danger and he needs to hurry and comes to the rescue especially in Nami's case.
I think this is one of the most defining trait about Sanji's persona in One Piece.

I think his loyalty and admiration to Zeff plays a big part in him wanting to find All Blue, more so than his own want to find All Blue. I think he's trying to fulfill that dream, not just for himself, but for Zeff as a way to thank him and repay him for sacrificing his dream and life as a pirate to save Sanji. You hit the nail on the head when you said "the main thing Sanji strives towards is to uphold his ideals and remain a true gentlemen". He doesn't want to become a man that brings shame to the person who raised him, Zeff. The desire he has to uphold this moral code of his, I believe, is one of the reasons why he is so strong and also why he is motivated to become stronger.
"He doesn't have the motivation to become strong just for the sake of becoming strong", yes that is true. He does however have the motivation to also become stronger to protect those who are important him. I think some fans underestimate this type of motivation, especially when Sanji is compared to Zoro and Luffy. "Sanji has comparable fighting ability to those two, and as such, should have the same mindset as those two in order to keep up with them" but I also believe that this way of thinking is incorrect. I believe that becoming stronger to protect an ideal or a way of life or to protect others can have an equal, if not greater effect sometimes, than becoming stronger simply for the sake of becoming stronger.

And i think, sanji knows the fact he can't take an enormous amount of damage every time and that what makes him to go with plans and think about what he is doing, differently from zoro and luffy, who mostly rely on their instincts.

You (Ohara) mentioned his passive approach while fighting and his rules about not fighting women and so, but forgot to mention his rule that made his name, "my hands are to cook, my legs for fighting". It seems to be a simple thing, but it's a gentleman trait for sure, he believes that if he fight with his hands his food will become impure with hate, his legs made his name "Black Leg Sanji" and this is much more than a simple way to distinguish characters, he prefers to have a hard fight than taint the love he applies to his food. Also there was his fight against Wanze where Sanji used his hands to fight for thinking Wanze wasn't a real cook, even then he only used his hands to fight against Wanze's food (Ramen Kenpo).

For me Sanji is an open book, you can literally read him. I love his character, be it the goofy pervert to the serious one. His ideals about food and hunger makes his character more respectable for me. When he said that his hands are not for fighting but only for cooking made me admire him more. Also his rivalry with Zoro and all their other shenanigans just add to the flavors for the their characters 😍

Can foreshadow Sanji showing his loyalty at the near end of One Piece sacrificing his life for his crewmates leaving epic scene with "To be continue" like we used to get from pre-time skip Sanji telling a words or two to Luffy like *Oi Luffy look for the All Blue for me*

Thank you for this video! Sanji is my favourite character.
I am deebly happy for you mentioning the fact how people compare the monster trio. Like yeah, Luffy and Zoro can and will fight anyone. But I personally love a man with principles and ideals. Sanji not hurting women doesn't bother me even though I am a woman myself.
I don't see it as sexist, because Sanji doesn't put women down. He might see women as beautiful, delicate flowers, but he has never said that a woman cannot be strong. He doesn't deny that.

  • @Broockle
    @Broockle Před 5 lety +12

Sanji is a DPS Bruiser like the rest of the monster trio but he has a lot of points put into support.
All put together I think his build actually requires more exp than Luffy's or Zoro's which makes him the highest level member on the crew imho.

    • @MetakJesu07
      @MetakJesu07 Před 5 lety +4

Plus he has to rely on only his legs because he's saving his hands for cooking, which the crew still vitally needs. Sanji is the only one of the monster trio that can't fully devote himself to fighting.

I find it very cool, and a sign of Oda's great writing, that Sanji is essentially an "English Butler" that should be the Master and not the Servant. He has all the qualities that the true Butler should have historically but is in fact a Prince. The idea of the Butler comes from the Manservants that would accompany Nobility or Royalty when they entered into Military Service. The manservant would undergo the same training while maintaining the proper behavior and still serving their Master. In many ways they were more of a Bodyguard that can kick ass when needed.

I think you had an interesting read on Sanji in this video but ultimately I have a much different view on who he is. In my opinion what Sanji's entire character arc is about is, in a way, Hunger: Everything about Sanji revolves around unfulfilled desires, longing, and lack. Sanji is emptiness.
Sanji saves Gin because he knows the deep pain of starvation. Sanji loves women to an uncomfortable degree because he was forced to be around cruel, violent, unfeeling men for his entire upbringing, with only women showing him love and kindness (besides, of course, Zeff. who still hit him a lot.) Sanji fights without a weapon, and without even using his hands, because he goes without those things- goes hungry- to ensure the others can stay satisfied. Because he doesn't want those people to feel the pain he's experienced.
The "invisible man" part is merely an extension of this. As the stereotypical middle child, he was overlooked time and time again, even by the World Government. He keeps secrets well, like his bloodline, and often uses his enemies' lack of information to his advantage.
I love Sanji because he manages to swallow this emptiness and stay true to himself, his ideals and his dreams, which yeah, is honestly to find what he really needs in his life: loads of great food and plenty of female attention. Because like they say when rejected by a lover, it's fine- "there's plenty of fish in the sea."

It's not just that he's only a pervert ... Groping Nami's breasts as soon as they change bodies? Using the tech he hates just to be invisible and watch ladies bath??? Not saying thank you to people who gave him blood and tried to save him, just because they were trans or not "real women" in his mind. In fishman arc? Not trying to fight with Khalifa, while one of their friend was on verge of death (robin)? Yes, a real gentleman, Sanji. Who respect women so much, that he doesn't even see them as people.

I love Sanji so much. WCI was perfect for him. We saw so much struggle, a broken soul, a great heartbreak, the final acceptance he underestimated the whole situation completely and the appreciation of his grest cooking skills. I was very satisfiyed, esp. the last episode. Such bittersweet moments.
Everything good and bad has been sayed, nobody is perfect and yet he has come so far, from Germa's failure to one of the wings of the future king of pirates.

This video was incredibly thought provoking and powerful; looking deeper into Sanji's character (and any One Piece character), I am always blown away by how dimensional each characters' depth, and growth is. Oda did an outstanding job making these folks as human and relatable as possible by giving Sanji, and other characters like him biases, flaws, and of course principles. It just makes them seem more human.
    Great job showcasing this. 😃

    Sanji is my favorite character.
    • He might actually buy the ingredients for Chopper since Chopper ran short on the way to WCI.
•Without Sanji, SH would’ve been so lost. He saved their lives even while they were on their way to WCI without even being there with his recipe.
•He’s adorable (Idk why I’m saying that but he just is. I mean, his eyes are actually as wide as a Luffy’s and he’s so adorable when he’s relieved. And his ahoge. The ahoge is Danganronpa material even. He’s got a sort of childish yet mature character.)
•His fighting is beautiful. Tell me that, if you watch the anime, his VA isn’t always on point with attack names. Wait no period. His VA is perfect for his character. To the point I can even recognize the voice in different animes. He is also really smart like the video says.
•His hair is perfect. Change my mind. Even in Super Saiyan, his hair is perfect.
•His chivalry and Kindness! Perfect! His loyalty! Perfect!
•Gentlemanliness! Maybe even to rival Jonathan Joestar’s!
•His dreams and beliefs that he sticks to! I also agree food shouldn’t be wasted though for a completely different reason.
•Sanji’s taught me just so much like Luffy has
(And idk why Zoro and Sanji moments has me so happy. They’re literally best friends...frenemies whatever you want to call it.)
And his smile makes my day! 😆
