How to Make Kamut Bread (In-Depth Guide with Recipe)

- Homemade bread is so delicious and fun to make. This recipe will make it easy for you and also shows how amazing it is to work with Kamut flour. You can replace it for any wheat recipe and see the benefits of working with Kamut.

THE FOOD NANNY KAMUT BREAD RECIPE
Makes 2 regular (9 1/2 x 5 3/4 inch) loaves or 6 mini loaves
Ingredients
2 Tbsp active dry yeast 7 cups White Kamut flour, divided
3 cups warm water (105º F) 3 1/2 Tbsp melted butter or olive oil
2/3 cup honey, divided 1 Tbsp French gray coarse salt
1. First prepare a sponge with the flour. In a large bowl, mix together the yeast, warm water, 1/2 cup of honey, and 4 cups flour. Cover and let rest for 20-30 minutes (until doubled in size) in a warm, draft-free place.
2. Add 2.5 more cups flour along with 1/2 cup more honey, the melted butter, or olive oil, and salt. Mix well. Knead for at least 5 minutes. Add the last 1/2 cup flour if dough seems too sticky - 1 Tbsp at a time. Grease bowl, place dough in bowl and cover. Let rise for 30 minutes (until doubled in size) in a warm, draft-free place.
3. Preheat oven to 400º. Spray or butter the pans generously. Punch down the dough to remove air bubbles. Divide evenly and place in greased pans. Cover and let rise until doubled.
4. Place pans inside of the oven when dough is ready. Turn the temperature down to 350º and bake loaves for 30 minutes for large loaves, 25-30 minutes for medium loaves, or 17-18 minuts for minis. Loaves are done when bottom of bread is lightly browned. You can tilt the hot pan just enough to check the bottom. Do not over-bak.
5. When done, immediately remove loaves from pans and place loaves on cooking rack. If desired, brush loaves with butter.

I found out about your flour like 4 yrs ago. My kids love the bread with bread and jam. I officially introduced my family (sisters/mom) to the flour a year ago and now they started buying it too. Just wish it was easier to get the flour 🤔 but this bread is amazing and so irresistible. Really reminds me of the Ukrainian pumpkin bread we make all the time. Chewy and yellow-ish. Love it! 😊

Just found your channel & I’m just beginning this bread making journey. Your bread looks amazing & you make it seem so easy… thank you for that. I have a question about your kumut flour shown (it looks so soft & beautiful) do you grind it yourself? And then sift it? As I said I’m learning & what I hear is you don’t want it on the shelf for a long time.
We are working with the farmers to bring you white and whole wheat Kamut flour every year - as much as the harvest allows, as well as the Whole Wheat Kamut berries (grains) for milling. Thanks, loved your demonstration. I have a question if you have the answer. Are there different amounts of nutrition in the different grains of wheat? I know that hard red and white berries have a higher protein than the others but are there any other nutritional values that you may know of? Thank you in advance 😊
Great question! There is definitely more protein in the Kamut grains and flours than your average wheat flour and it's higher in many of the minerals, while at the same time, causing less inflammation according to many scientific studies and reports. Google it a bit and let us know what you find!

Is this made with fresh milled Kamut? It looks amazing. I haven’t tried Kamut but I am now.
You can make it with fresh milled Kamut or our flour - white or wheat.
MCFarmlife loves Kamut bread! I have the Kamut kernels (berries) and milk my flour. My consistency seems different than yours. Do I need to sift out the bran before using milled flour?
No you can use the bran just fine but you may need to adjust the coarseness of your flour. I have a video coming up soon that shows you the best coarseness. I don't go super fine nor really coarse and it takes a little effort to get to know your machine to get it just the way you like it.
