- This is the World's Cheapest VR Headset. But what can it do?
So first you need to build it. But it's pretty easy, and the designs are online so you can make it at home. You just need some cardboard and a few cheap materials. The final piece of the system is your phone to project the VR content.
The first thing we're gonna try, is VR CZcams videos.
Okay so I know you're probably wondering, what's the point? Well Google's idea was that if you make the tech very cheap, you make it easier for people to develop apps for it. Now there's been 160 million downloads of games, experiences, and apps.

they also had the daydream , though it had a controller include, it sucked ass because they asked around 120 I think and you also needed a Pixel phone

It worked… but it gave those millions of people a very poor perception of what VR can be, a gimmick. I’m very certain that google’s cardboard headset actually hurt the vr industry.
The biggest hurt it would do is a little boo boo. When people think of vr nowadays oculus is first.
@@Heythebrodyboy thankfully, it turned out for the best, but there is no doubt that the cardboard is the scourge of the vr community.
But still, not everyone can afford a $400 vr headset. You have to think of that. Think of how many people can now experience vr
At least normal people don’t need to buy a new device every year for them to make something else
@@U.S.A.O.I.L.Quest 2 is now $250. It may be semi-outdated, but it’s still a good choice. Plus a Quest Lite for $200 is coming in fall 2024, which will be a mix between Quest 2 and 3.

@kooliyo ah alright i got my quest for around 200 i have a pretty new galaxy and it was like idk 3-400 idrk but still hella expensive but yeah i guess it really just depends on brand and model lol
In 2024 it should be a given that most people a smartphone.
If a phone by google is around 1255 CAD and a be headset is around 849CAD for a quest that seems a little off, yet people might already have a phone so it’s hard to do the numbers.
You can use any phone. As long as it fits. Most modern phones don't even fit with a case lol

My first headset was a google cardboard i knew vr was going to be the future now i have a quest 3 i love vr
This was actully a really good experice when i used it there was a app that google made you could be in a polygon world on a boat and whales would jump and crash in the water
I'm a VR engineer and I made that into a functional steam VR headset using custom software
I mean, I remember really enjoying Google Cardboard when I was 15 and watching youtube and PH videos in my room almost a decade ago, but its really dated when now you can just get a PS VR, Oculus, Quest, Gear. Sure they're expensive, but the quality of life for someone really into VR is just so much better, plus it is more mainstream/accessible and continues to get better with comfort, power, and functionality. I don't approve of the Apple Vision Pro's price, but it definitely prototypes functions that I hope to see in other VR headsets in the future.
I litterally made one myself out of cardboard and hot glue with the ivry app and it works quite well for steam vr

This was pretty fun ngl and if I remember correctly there was a game board that came with it and you can make your own maze then play in it
I love playing rec room and beat saber on the google cardboard, or any other game that requires vr controllers for that matter 😊😊
When I was a wee lad, I consistently asked for a vr headset for holidays, expecting a rift or vive. I always got plastic housings for your phone that always got me sad I couldn’t play job simulator
I think that this is meant to be a test, as he said that the idea is that more developers will make games if it is cheap. Idk much about this, but I can assume that this is the case.

If that was made with a stronger material like plastic or wood it could actually be a good product to sell then have like an app on your phone to use it

But I see your using an apple phone and by the looks of it, it looks like the iPhone 11 which it’s prices range from $200 - $400 and if it is anything above $300 then it would be more expensive than the quest 2
