  • A huge thanks to Greg ‪@stevethefishdotnet‬ , he's the one who sent me this a few years back and I've finally got around to building Yamamoto's Cosmo Zero from the series Yamato 2199. Yamamoto is my second favourite character in the 2199 series, and I'm really excited with how this kit has turned out.

    What a beauty. Not just the design, but above that that natural metal finish. I don't know the film or series this machine belongs to, but that spacecraft alone really worths it. Magnificent work.

      Oh, it from Star Blazers, Japanese anemia. There are 3 series and remakes. Wonderful show.

    I am an unreasonably huge Starbalzers fan. Thanks for making my day. I'm about to buy all the 1:72 scale kits now. Good thing my couch pulls out.

      That is awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed this video :) Me too, I passed on a lot of these 1:72nd fighter and I really regret that now.

    This is gorgeous. Just started getting into the yamato stuff as a break from gunpla and this video absolutely sold me on the 1/72 kits. Fantastic work.

    11:02 This might have happened because Mr. Hobby is a solvent based lacquer that will chemically etch itself and adhere to the plastic and I see you’re spraying on top of that coat of AV Metallic Silver which is an acrylic resin base, so it’s essentially softened that previous layer. The GSI Creos Mr. Hobby website even strictly states that you should not do that with their line of solvent based acrylic paints. You can however paint acrylics on top of dried lacquer layers. Hope that helps.

    Wow, very impressive and nicely done! I wish this video existed when I built mine!

  • @cellardwellerproductions5125

    A very cool and unusual build.
    Very colorful and detailed kit.
    You go from high point to high point.
    Most excellent, Jared.
    I’d give one of these a whirl.
    Best wishes to your brother too.

      Thank you very much, I agree this is an odd looking star fighter, like some kind of agressive fork. There is another Cosmo Zero, the 01, I'm going to try and track down as it's Red, with Yellow highlights and Silver body. I'd like to have them both next to each other on the shelf :)

    One day, I'll have to get myself a Cosmo Zero.

  • @stevethefishdotnet

    That turned out beautifully. I'd read from some people online that trying to paint the trim separately and then attaching the parts leaves gaps, so it's good to see that it worked out fine for you.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  Před 2 lety

      I did have a bit of an issue with that on the wings, but all I needed to do was remove the paint on the edges and carefully cement them together. They are a bit tricky to fit to the fuselage after that, so more trimming was needed. But as far as this kit goes this was the only issue I faced with the kit. Thanks again Greg, I finally had the confidence to build this one. Since it was a rarer model I was very concerned about messing it up. And I didn't know this until I looked for the paint set, but the fuselage is supposed to be silver, and I thought it was grey like in the series.

    Amazing build I hope mine turns out this good. If I ever get to it. I may have been buying to many space Battleship yamato kits

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  Před 2 lety

      I don't think it's possible to have too many Yamato kits, or at least that's my brothers theory. He's bought 2 more in the past month, and just picked up the paints for me to build a new one for him. I'll be starting the Asuka class in the next few days.

      @@rebelsatcloudnine oh nice!
      I also got that one laying on the pile. I am currently still working on the 1/500 Yamato but it's pretty big and is still gonna take a long time

    I was impressed with your Kelvin-type done to in the TOS style. My jaw hit the deck looking at that 2199 Cosmos Zero. Any interest in doing some of the ships? I know not all the ships seen in 2202 got a kit produced (to my knowledge, only the BB and CV Andy's and the Dreadnaughts got kits) but someone did up a modernization of the Patrol CG class from Yamato 2 (and second season of SBY) in the style seen in 2202 on FB...

      @rebelsatcloudnine  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Not my next video, but the one after that, will be the Bandai 1:1000 Asuka class from the 2205 series. Earlier this year I also did a video on the 1:1000 Pormelia Astro Carrier, which was a really fun build.

  • @pandaphil
    @pandaphil Před 2 lety

    Did you have as much trouble getting the weapons pylons on as I did? The kit only gives you tiny little tabs to hold glue.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Phil, I did. I did find that there is a way that they "fit" in the socket but they don't stick. I had recorded this step of the build but it didn't turn out that well. My solution was to use the Mr. Cement SP and place a drop of that into the rectangle on the wing, then I took the missile and placed it into position and waited for the SP to dry, which didn't take too long.

    • @pandaphil
      @pandaphil Před 2 lety

      @@rebelsatcloudnine Good to hear. I don't know what Bandai was thinking with that one. It's been awhile, but I think I did something similar. Or else I broke out the CA glue.

  • @briancespedes3676
    @briancespedes3676 Před 2 lety

    Is cement really necessary or can I just build it without it

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  Před 2 lety

      You don't need glue for this kit, with the exception of the weapons pylons under the wings.
