Peter writes this letter to encourage Christians to live out the purpose of their lives in Christ. He warns readers to beware of teachers who claim to be believers, but present a false version of Christianity. And, Peter calls on all Christians to eagerly watch and wait for the return of the Lord.
Peter issues two warnings against corrupt teachers who are leading the Christian communities astray with their way of life and distorted theology. Peter addresses their objections to the reality of Jesus' resurrection and the final judgment. He reminds Christians that their hope is in God.
Peter was a guy who could be impulsive and overly outspoken, but he also allowed Jesus to correct him. In Peter, we see the grace and patience of our Lord, and how He works with flawed followers (like all of us). We can learn a lot from Peter's story.
Chosen when he was a simple fisherman to be an early disciple, or follower, Peter infamously denied Jesus three times. However, Jesus ultimately chose Peter to lead the church, calling him the rock of the church.
