Building a Better Land Raider for Warhammer 40K

- The Land Raider kit is an iconic piece of design and still hold up really well for a kit that was released nearly a quarter of a century ago. But, for me, the Spartan Assault Tank looks better - the proportions work better and the detail is unsurprisingly superior.
The idea of Kitbashing the Spartan as a Land Raider proxy is hardly original, but I've not seen many attempts that try and make it look more like a Land Raider, so that's what I've done... I hope!
If you want to have a go at Kitbashing the Land Raider Spartan conversion yourself, here's a link to the templates I made for the upper track guards:

The spartan sprue actually has a an inbuilt option for dual instead of quad lascannons. I did so for the purpose of turning it into a Chaos Land Raider.
Quite right. I wanted to use the slightly longer mount "arms" for mine, and found the cut down outer Lascannons made for a good armour mount... though I forgot to mention any of that in the video ;)
the dual lascannons are not for turning it into a chaos land raider, its a sprue shared across all plastic land radier chassis for the HH, GW has this stupid thing of wanting things to be their ridiclous version of tournament legal so a spartan as a chaos land raider wouldnt fit that bill
@@clonetf141 Bruh. I did not say its FOR anything specific, I just said I used it as it allowed me to proxy the model as a Chaos Land Raider. Relax and enjoy the plastic cement fumes, like the rest of us. ;-)
Your editing and storytelling through the video is top notch. Amazing video and amazing model!
Thanks Kevin, very much appreciated mate!
It's almost weird how fully formed and accomplished the character/style/tone/production/content of this channel is so very quickly.
instant sub. great vid and sweet mod.
looks great! it's actually really reminiscent of the original land raider designs from the rogue trader and 2nd edition era. I love it!
Absolutely! I always wanted to stretch one of the OG kits to give it more "modern" proportions, but once the Forge World Spartan appeared it didn't really make any sense.
Not seen anyone doing the styrene conversions you show here anywhere on CZcams and it's really good to see and learn. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing what you make next!
Thanks dude, much appreciated.
It is really nice to see the use of styrene in conversions! Awesome looking results!
The conversion looks great and the timing of this video is fantastic because I was just getting pieces of a spartan together to do a similar conversion into a land raider. You've made this project so much easier for me!
Thanks dude. Would love to see some photos when you're done with your conversion dude.
Ik you only do space marines but could you do some tau? You have some great talent, keep it up!
7:07 I thought that was a guardsmans head on a spike,
Then realised it was a searchlight.. Haha.
I think you've done a wonderful job. It looks great.Whats up next?
Haha - to be fair those old Cadian helmets are probably about the same size! I've got a xenos project on the go, as well as another terrain video in the making. Not sure which will get across the finish line first ;)
What a wonderful; bit of hobby serendipity! My brother's just started his own 'Land Raider' by using the Spartan as a base. I'm not 100% sure what his plans involve with it yet but I'll be sure to send him this to see if it inspires him at all. Great work as always!
Thanks dude - make sure you get him to send a photo if he gives it a try!
This is a really nice build but I think you should weather tracks as well.
Another banger of a video i just wanna try and give it a go myself, the spartan has such a good design and you turned it into an even more awesome land raider!
fantastic work! Really appreciate you labelling the tools you are using (last video I asked what the 123 block was haha) Gone ahead and purchased a 123 and rivets via your link! Thank you, awesome stuff you do!
I think the unweathered decals help sell the idea that this is an old vehicle that's been hauled out of storage and slightly spruced up. It very mildly reminds me of a WW2 tank being sent off to Korea.
I LOVED THIS!!! I am going to do this to all the older kits I picked up at a swap meet. I still field the original Spartan from way back in the day but I do love the new look.
Love this, found it today after wanting to get a Spartan for my 40k Thousand Sons. Fantastic stuff, whilst I probably won't follow you into making this conversion, it certainly made the engineer in me very happy. Cheers!
That is super cool work and the final result is stellar. Looks like that 123 block really came in handy for the entire build. Genius idea.
Special trees?!? Lookin’ forward to it! I’m no lore expert, but that came out lookin’ cool!!!
By far one of my favourite kit bashing chanels, keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks Andrew, much appreciated. Have a good weekend!
DUUUUDE Absolutely GORGEOUS! I’ve been considering getting one myself but now I’m definitely sold
I just seen this technique in someone else's video, but when using the sponge, if you put it in the plastic tube that protects your paint brushes, it gives you alittle but more control and less hand/ finger fatigue. Thought it was a neat trick to share.
Yes!!!! I love you’re videos!!!!! You have such a bright mind!!!
This is a great conversion and I dont care what you say the paint job is excellent
Thanks Ben, that's kind of you to say. Have a good weekend dude!
Excellent as always!
Great customization! Bravo.
This is very cool indeed! Giving me ideas.. Would love to see you do a vid on materials, tools, and any tips for these kind of builds that you do.
Love it, planned this from the start of my spartan collection I have 5 I'm turning into various versions.
You, sir, deserve more subs. Awesome work!
Great work dude, it looks fantastic 👍🏻
I really love this channel!
Templates, you absolute legend I've wanted to do this conversion for my custodes ever since this kit was released.
I hear your voice and expect to see GT3 cars wapping around Spa but also Im very here for your 40k content. Another great video Chris
Haha, indeed. To be fair, Space Marine content is the GT3 at Spa of Warhammer ;)
That's awesome. We'll done. The Spartan is the best tank GW ever made. I applaud your work to bring it forward.
I’m working on my second Spartan -> Land Raider kitbash right now 😂 although as mine are both for chaos (one World Eaters and one Death Guard) I was pretty happy to go with the exposed tracks look to make it stand out as obviously much older. Now you’ve got me second guessing!
welol looks good and fun to see and see whats new and dekals are ok
Been looking at using a spartan as a land raider for my golden boys this looks great
Dude, loving the channel
Absolutely awesome!
Came out sweet. Well done.
I had to pause for a bit after the Desolation Marine bit I was laughing so hard.
Great conversion, subscribed.
Wow, I just added a spartan to my pile of shame and intended to land-raiderify it with extra armour from card and plastic - and then this video shows up right on cue. Spooky. I love your editing!
Heh, thanks dude. I suspect there's quite a few people out there that bought Age of Darkness boxes that are probably in the same situation too!
You know what, I'm just glad to see someone else Remembers the Trapdoor series "BERK, FEED ME!" "
Oh Globbits!
Small note: Remember to dirty down the tracks. Looks a little off with a dirty tank but clean tracks, other wise it looks great 👍
I like painting tracks separately, too. :)
1:37 - Classic Mr Haye ❤
Someone has to be ;)
you never fail to impress. Can't wait for the next vehicle, whatever it may be!
you never fail to *impress, or you never disappoint (is what I believe you meant) lol
I didnt realise that :/@@anonsphone4323 (Fixed it tho)
that's great bit of precision build work, it looks great - for better scaled rivets have you tried using a thin tin sheet and a drill bits bottom to punch them out over a silicone mat? more fiddly but that way you can have rivets of any size you like and they have the dome shape on one side too
“Keep it as square as possible” well now I know it’s not a 40K land raider because hot damn that’s a wonky kit nowadays lol. Beautiful work & fantastic video!
This is phenomenal. The Spartan looks better with the overhead track guards.
Success on all counts
looks great
Nice job
God I love the Spartan so much more than the normal Land Raider. It’s so chonky!
that is one rock'n Tank you built
Looks cool 👍
Gracias!
I just found your channel... and have immediately Liked and Subscribed! :)
Thanks dude, much appreciated!
So goooooood
Brilliant
Another hit!!!
Love this. Can you link for the small metal engineers square you use?
Some 40K armor kitbash ideas for u from WW1…
France - Saint-Chamond tank
Germany - A7V
Italy - Fiat 2000
UK - male and female Mk V
US - Holt gas electric tank, CLB 75 Tank
This is gorgeous definitely going to attempt to recreate. How did you make the rivets?
Have you ever done one of those pictures where you placed the individual colored dots on the paper? You get MANY extras, and those are a great source of rivets too. FYI
Spartan is like 2cm wider and abit longer than standard land radier, better keep that in mind
I just got a Land Raider Proteus used. I know it’s smaller so I’d have to adjust but would this work? It’s already built and you did the track armor during construction.
I swear I’ve seen you sim racing :)
That you have ;)
@@OffbeatBuilds Without the hat I was almost tricked! It’s amazing how many people have similar hobbies. My other channel is for just video games but I don’t do much with it. Great build on this one!
Always found it a bit weird that the spartan kit is only about 25% bigger than a regular 40k land raider despite supposedley being much much bigger (troop capacity etc)
Almost like they wanted people to proxy it as a regular land raider anyway
I built one for my red corsairs, even cut up some of the raptor imperialis signs to make a janky tyrants fist art on the side
For the love of God, or at least the love of labour-saving, why is a man with this level of modeling skills not using a CAD program to build parts and 3D print them?
Oh well, I can't argue with the results, that thing is amazing.
Great work, but the tracks could really use some wear, tear, and weathering... After all those are the bits that get worn the most.
Is the link missing as well for everybody else? I can't seem to find the template for the styrene sheet top tread covers :(
Ah, apologies dude, here you go... print at 100%
www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zg3latl6vx2gqnzwg08yo/Land-Raider-Spartan-Templates.pdf?rlkey=dx3ba9ezjdw6ivczrfnwi0nzh&dl=0
HEY! I am not seeing these new tanks in the 10th Ed Space marine codex. WHY????
I don't see the link for the templates?
Apologies dude - here you go: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/zg3latl6vx2gqnzwg08yo/Land-Raider-Spartan-Templates.pdf?rlkey=dx3ba9ezjdw6ivczrfnwi0nzh&dl=0
Brother, do u also do sim racing vids?
Indeed I do ;)
In the middle of copying your conversion 😁. You wouldn't happen to have a second set of templates for the extra amor plating on the track covers would you?
(like I'm sure I could measure it out, but if you have em lying around on a hard drive 😉)
Ah, my apologies. I didn't make templates for the additional plates, I just cut down the original templates by (I think) 2mm on each axis.
@@OffbeatBuilds No worries, I kinda figured 👍
i'd love to see a grav land raider
tbh. this comment exists because i'm stuck halfway in the project and have no clue 😂😂
Dad? Is that you?
Do you realise that this is already a thing and the heresy land raider kit is simply a Spartan with shorter sides?
You are correct but 90% of the fun here is making your vision of something a reality. It is very neat conversion even if it is redundant.
You know?
All Warhammer miniatures are great. But they are not created to be perfect!
Everyone should do conversions, I think. Because otherwise there will be legions of clones.
It’s also important to make “your own dudes” in Warhammer. This is the only way to unlock your potential.
And most importantly: you need to show Games Workshop that they are the only ones dealing with boring bureaucracy “like this model is only for one system.”
I want play a LANDRAIDER... BUT THE Model is so ugly. I come from Bolt ACtion and there the Tanks look Cool. What should I do? Are there Any Alternative Models?
