  • Scott Van Pelt flashes back to a vintage bad beat in 2013 when Ohio State covered at the last second against Northwestern. The Buckeyes were a -5.5 favorite and with five seconds left the Wildcats fumbled into the end zone. Ohio State recovered the fumble to put them up 10 points as time expired.

I always remember Micheal Wilbon saying on PTI the problem was for Northwestern it was the biggest game In school history for Ohio State it was Saturday.

I wasn't at this game, but I was at the 2004 overtime thriller, the one and only time from 1971 to today that Northwestern beat the Buckeyes. I'm a Wildcats fan, but I was there with my OSU alum uncle. After the game we trudged off with hundreds of scarlet clad fans to the Central Street train station. We waited for what felt like hours for the train to arrive, while Northwestern fans drove by, whooping it up and honking horns. Truly Buckeye purgatory.

If I lost that one I'd rage-fade Ohio State for the rest of my life.

Funny thing here, the 2nd latteral was a forward lateral. If you look at the replay or look at it in slow motion he throws it at the 8 and the guy catches it at the 9.

I know a lot of people come on here and lie about being on the winning side of these but me my brother and father were standing in Caesars palace sportsbook while this happened, my brother and father both with Ohio State tickets in their hand as i sat there without one because my father told me to bet them, but I chose against it and away lol. That whole sportsbook went NUTS when this happened. I will never forget this memory.

I will say they had it at -6.5 as a lot of people did. That line moved closer to game time. So it was actually crucial Ohio state covered that fumble and not northwestern because then it would have ended up a terrible beat for us lmao. Win by 6 at -6.5 with an ending like that.

Ohio State would have covered on a safety too. This play also took the over/under from push to over
