This was a dark time for giant bomb, they ~were~ shrinking (as Brad jokes about)... but now in 2018 (in a few days, its dec 29) they have more staff than ever and are doing really well. I'd like to think that Ryan would be proud, and I hope Jeff is too.
Giant bomb is at its lowest point right now. And unlikely to get any better. Drew and Dan, the true wildcards of GB, are both gone. Vinny and Jeff are getting old and just don't seem to care that much anymore. Jeff only appears happy or interested when he's doing his own livestreams from home playing games from 30 years ago. Alex and Brad haven't changed much but they always played the "straight man" which doesn't really work when you don't have the zany counterpart to play against. Rorie is still Rorie I guess. Would anyone notice if Rorie wasn't there? Jason has the personality of a middle schooler trying to act tough. Ben has an occasional moment of quick wit but 95% of the time he's just boring. He seems only interested in the lowest common denominator modern popular culture which surprisingly doesn't make for an exciting personality. Jan is like Ben except without the ocasional wit. Abby can be funny but she's extremely one-note and tries to overcompensate for being younger and the only woman in the crew by forcing a "female perspective" or a "twitter activist" perspective on everything. I get why she feels the need to do it but it certainly isn't a unique viewpoint in 2020 nor do I personally find it too interesting. For a business model that relies on personalities first and foremost they sure seem devoid of personality these days.

his weight gain pretty much coincided with the death of Ryan Davis. It might be a coincidence (Brad definitely started hitting the age when a man's metabolism slows down significantly) but a part of me wondered back then if Brad's health took a bit of a dive due to depression or grief...
N Pak Speaking as someone who has dealt with depression and rapid weight fluctuation issues, you very well could be onto something. The times in my life when I've ballooned have always coincided with a bad, lengthy, bout of depression. I don't mean to imply that Brad is clinically depressed or anything, but grief he was feeling about Ryan's death (along with hitting "that age," and a sedentary job/lifestyle) definitely could have contributed. Also, regarding Jeff, I've noticed a pretty big change over that past year or so. His face has thinned out a lot. My wife, whose exposure to GB is almost entirely being in the same room when I watch, even noticed how different he looks compared to some of the older content.
