I’m convinced there’s not a single bad cover of this song.. this just confirmed it
bet, imma make a cover this
For as long as I can remember (the original was released the year I was born), Fade Into You was always being played in the background. I never thought to ask why, but sometimes it would make my mom cry. Now I’m watching this video through tears. She would have loved this cover. She would be 55 today. Love you, Ma.
i think this video beautifully illustrates how everyone you see can be a protagonist if you simply shift your perspective
also how everyone is so much more connected than we realize
Or how we could be more connected if we did realize....
at the end of the day, we're all just trying our best to be our best. But no one is perfect.
How so? I love creative music videos yet here all I see is various, random scenes with zoom in. I don't see a plot.
@@MusicOrLoseItTVPlaylists The plot is emotional. Various people all longing for connection - connection they once had (with the first character), connection with someone who's standing right next to them, etc. The original song (that this is a cover of), tonally, focuses on the *beauty* of that. The ease of getting lost in someone else's world. *This* comment seems to focus more on the simple beauty of having a world full of interesting people. The music video's tone is different too, and seems to indicate a sadness that comes when we are unable to cross the barrier between people, or when we become so absorbed in their life, that we cannot appreciate our own, and where we are right now.
It's all just suggested at, imo.
@@MusicOrLoseItTVPlaylists There's no plot, but it's not random.
This song perfectly describes the term "Sonder" - The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it. Thank you American Football, the master cinmetographer and all those involved.
The random passersby. Each living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
if you like that you should check out Slacker by Richard Linklater!!! Its like if sonder was a film
And Slacker is free on youtube!!
You should check out a band called The Wrecks. They have a song called Sonder. Different type of vibe then this though
one step ahead: strangers passing in the street by chance two sepparate glances meet, i am you and what i see is me. but maybe this generation isn't ready for it
This perfectly captures that feeling of always having eyes on you, where you feel trapped inside of yourself. Haunting music video, couldn't look away for a single second.
big hurtie
real sad
very pain
Big empty
Depending on your mood, this either feels like running through a field of wildflowers at sunset while breathing in the fresh air, or it can feel like running away from yourself until you step into quicksand and begin to suffocate while desperately trying to crawl out.
You're totally right. I'm happy to be experiencing the former emotion right now 🙌
or it can feel like swimming with the flow of a river clinging to one seaweed and then to other and another and another
@@yugeshh however you relate to it, partner. Rock on.
U know this is a mazzy star cover rite
@@klesky Indeed I do, but it definitely has a different vibe than the original.
Being born in 77 and a 90's kid, I was skeptical of a cover, of such an amazing song, but it is splendidly done. The video is absolutely superb, and is the epitome of visual communication. It tells many different stories, that are basically just the story of life, and how we are all connected more closely than we acknowledge on an everyday basis. It's easier said than done in a world getting crazier every minute, but it is true, always try to be kind, because you never know what someone else may be going through.
Dinosaur Jr does a pretty good cover..
The Sega Bodega & Eartheater cover is ethereal
This song specifically is super coverable
I was born in 77 too! And this song is definitely a master piece from my junior year! I’m gonna keep listening to it until I die!
In 7th grade a girl fell in love with me and I thought she was a weird nerd. Several years later I moved back to my hometown and saw her again and instantly fell in love with her. She sent me the original of this song along with “Lay Lady Lay” and those two songs still remind me of her to this day. She married another guy who was on and off with her for years, but I still think of her and always with the thought “that’s what falling in love feels like”. Have never felt it (lasting) since, 20 years later
I’d buy you a round if I could. You’re not alone
@@jovanjones9083 I appreciate the gesture. I’ve tried to drown my loneliness with substances for years. I recently was able to pull out of it after a year of heavy nightly drinking. Still the hurt persists
I don’t think we often realize that opportunities like that, don’t come very often in life. For some, it never does. So even though things don’t always turn out as we hope for, we need to remember to be grateful we at least felt it…even if it’s only for a brief moment.
This music video is deeply depressing and warm at the same time...I love it.
The music is great to listen after a heart break driving alone in a empty highway toward the sunset.
I was feeling really emotional today, reminiscing on past relationships i've had with people, and this video just made me cry really hard. Being a human is a really beautiful experience, filled with different kinds of moments, people, joys, tears, love, hate, all sorts of emotions, they're so powerfull that they can physically ache. The video made me think about all of the lives and experiences of the people i've met, and how they are doing at this precise moment.
I'm a young fella, 18 right now, but If theres one advice I can share, is try to live the most you can, you will not regret it, these moments are worth it, this moment is.
The audiovisual blend on this was flawless.
I usually listen to this band when I go to college. I use to think like everyday is different from where I started, something has changed throughout my life and I wanted to describe this type of feeling im living rn but I couldn't until I discovered this band. Im grateful.
This brought me to tears. Incredible
this video brings me back to valuing myself and life for what it’s really worth - every single time I feel lost or don’t realize those things.
Love yourself even though it’s hard to - you got this ❤️
Amazing how a band can make you cry during one part of your life and then release something completely different yet achieve the same effect years later.
The original is one of my favorite songs ever. It's timeless and always gives me a certain feeling when I hear it. This is a beautiful version too and gives me another special feeling. I love it.
I watched this 3 times before realizing the entire video is edited in the style of 8mm full frame like in an old film reel. I don't know why, but damn does that add depth to an already beautiful composition.
what do you mean with 8mm full frame? it's probably shot on 4 perf 35mm.
People change,
People leave.
Us as humans are just as there for each other as we are distant.
Sometimes the ones you love leave this world, sometimes the friendship fade, sometimes they just grow apart.
But there will always be the memory
And the times you have with them.
Good or bad the memories fade into us, we adapt and it becomes an integral part of us.
People May fade, but the truth is they'll never truly leave us.
+1
bruuuuuuh :'(
beautiful words, thanks
I miss my teenager life
@@michaelsykes_ you'll miss your adult life
i really hope a new album drops soon. thought ill miss Steve Lamos, the joy and energy he brought to the drumming and trumpet was awesome and unique, American Football will not be the same without him. and he will be missed.
Duuuude, I hadn’t gotten the news until now. . .
Super upset after hearing this.
His creative mind is one in a million. There are a lot of skilled drummers, but how many can come up with Stay Home drums over that guitar lines?
The guy just see the song beyond the song and come up with unpredictable one of a kind drums.
No one drums like Lamos, but if they're gonna find a replacement, it should be that guy from Covet (Forrest Rice)
@ghost mall he left AF last year
@ghost mall Heres a direct Quote from Steve Lamos
“After many years with American Football, my life situation has changed. Unfortunately, I now need to move on from the band,”
My guess is that Steve either has other professional responisbilities looming, Lamos actually became a professor of english at the University of Colorado during American Football's 15 year haitus inbetween LP1 and LP2
Maybe something in his personal life is preventing him from fully commiting to the band, but i gather from his response that this departure feels mutual and personal, its doesnt feel sour or toxic, maybe he even outgrew being in the band for all we know. heres another quote from Lamos
“I wish you all the best as the band moves on to its next phase. Finally, I’d like to thank AF fans: you have provided me with some truly amazing experiences-and some truly amazing memories. I’m deeply grateful.”
For whats its worth, I believe Lamos was the beatting heart of American Football, the drumming and trumpeting he played on "Never Meant", "Stay Home", "The One With The Wurlitzer", as well as on the most recent LP3 with "Doom in Full Bloom", "Every Wave to Ever Rise," and "Silhouettes" showcasing his incredible talents and musicanship, and his contributions to American Football cannot be understated.
For those who don't know, a beautiful band called Mazzy Star preformed the original Fade Into You.
Enjoy the gorgeous rabbit hole, friends.
This is better
@@Fortyjustice delusional
That whole album man
Honestly, respect for the cover, but this probably doesn't even top the Dinosaur Jr. cover.
remember when mark kozelek rip fade into you and made "Song For A Blue Guitar"?
ahhh, the trumpets. never gets old
american football covering mazzy star's "fade into you" gotta be the most beautiful thing i have seen.
This is probably one of the coolest, most beautiful and most moving music videos I’ve ever seen… BRAVA
I want to hold the hand inside you
I want to take the breath that's true
I look to you, and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life, you go in shadows
You'll come apart, and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then smiles cover your heart
You live your life, you go in shadows
You'll come apart, and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
I think it's strange you never knew
Thanks!!!
❤
I love how this video illustrates the deep desires that we try to hide when we get bored of all the good in our life. We long for more intense experiences because we are all human and have been conditioned to do so. When we feel happiness we think of ways to experience even more happiness instead of being content with the greatness in our lives. No matter how grand. Once its boring we long fore more, and then we lose those things we are happy about and wonder why we were so stupid to throw it all away.
I used to listen to the original one with my best friend in boarding school, at night we screamd "fade into you" all over the school, thinking about the boys we loved and how much we were depressed, now she is so far away, this cover remind me of her
This is beautiful. The only cover that does justice to the original.
everyone is dealing with their own shit. this hits hard differently. what a song and video. American Football is lifesource.
thank you
I love this cover, and I love this video even more
i've been listening to this band on repeat for these couple of days!
Came for the Miya Folick collab, stayed for the haunting visuals
Jesus Christ when those guitars hit when the old man is playing pinball. Magical
Whoever did this music video--------excellent job. It is like the 2022 manifestation of the Mazzy Star song. Excellent job. It reminds me of watching the movie Magnolia.
I knew I recognized the girl from the thumbnail. Miya Folick has such a nice voice and she definitely made Hope Sandoval proud with this. I'd totally recommend hearing "thingamajig" from Miya
This and Kamasi Washington - "The Truth" music video give me similar sensation
so real it's surreal
This is a proper cover 🙏🏼
Nothing will ever be able to compare to Hope Sandoval's delivery, but this is surprisingly good. Big shoes to fill, and well done.
Between this and the Rachel Goswell feature on their last album, I have a feeling these guys were always shoegazers at heart
This rendition and the visuals show how I feel at times.
I've already listened to this version, but it feels like falling in love for the first time, again.
They really are one of the prettiest bands to have existed.
Not a huge fan of the cover but this is one of the best music videos I've ever seen
somehow even better than the original recording by mazzy star. i live for that horn section.
My girlfriend, my first love left me about a week ago. She played this song for me many times. Cant eat now, sad
You are not alone,
Don't be sad too long for loosing someone.
They didn't trully leave us.
That's the massage i get from watching this great MV!
i never knew i needed an american football cover of one of my all time favorite songs ... amazing, ethereal, dreamy production
I love how the guy with the gold rimmed sunglasses is maybe the only person who was happy in both his scenes. Got a hot babe and having fun at the arcade.
I can’t come up with words to express how brilliant this is…..both song cover and video. Nice job Mike and co.
This is one of the best music videos I've seen in a good while.
This is a really cool video. I like how each person goes from being the focus of one shot to basically being in the background of the next, but you still get to see different sides of everyone.
Yes. We are real
i would give anything to see you guys live
Saw them live once. Such a pilgrimage to me
I saw them live in LA one of the best nights of my life
First time here. I was actually watching CZcams videos of a really good band Indie band called Chinese Football and in the comment section people were comparing them to this band, ironically enough called American Football and how they are both in a similar genre and both very good, so here I am to check it out for myself. It's very good so far, this is the first song I'am listening to and I like it a lot. Will definitely check out more of their music right now. Meanwhile, check out Chinese Football as well. You will be pleased.
baw the puppy was a focus character 😁😁
but the girl just staring at that weird light in her room really fuct me up...
the concept for this video is genius, mad props and big ups
criminally slept on
For those that don't know, Owen (aka real name Mike Kinsella) is American Football.
Solid cover and love the 'Slacker' type theme to the video.
Me too!
Okay this was the best cover/remake of this song.
Tough to even approach this as a cover, but I think you guys did a great job. Your music is already haunting and bleak so this song fits you like a glove. The original will always be one of my favorite songs ever. I was a teen in the 90s and few songs summed up how it felt at that time quite like Mazzy Star did with Hope Sandoval's haunting af vox just permeating my every fiber of existence.
literally one of my favorite videos and covers of all time. Thank you
For anyone who doesn't know this is a beautiful song by Mazzy Star who were an amazing band in the 90s/2000s. Also this is an awesome cover 🙂
sitting in a hotel room in a strange town at 6am watching this and I look over to the door and there is one of those weird light thingies just like in the video. W O A H.
timeless love for a timeless song ❤
Man, you took one of the best melancholy songs of all time & loaded it with menace & sadness - great video as well...
Song doesn't need a remake
It’s not a remake. It’s a cover. A remake is a very limited way of thinking about it and implying they're trying to replace the original when in reality they're paying homage to a beautiful song with their own rendition.
Ah, those good goddamn morning tears, that's what I needed in my coffee. Thanks for this art.
pls make another album :( don't disband
It's been incredible to see how this song just continues to be influential year after year.
I have been deeply into this song since the original album. Solidarity.
One of my favorite band covering one of my favorite songs from another band i love, sick
Wonderful and poignant as ever. Got the new EP preordered as soon as they became available on both special editions. With that it should complete the discography of every special edition cd, tape, and vinyl, and even test pressings of American football, Their / Theyre/ There, and Owen. Very excited to see it come to completion.
Owen! That name brings me right back to a certain time in my life... Glad to hear that you're collecting and documenting something quite special
I love this father…
Immutable truth…
come back to England on tour. your Hammersmith show the other year will stay with me forever.
i lost it with the old man and the dog in the car
Such a pilgrimage to me to be finally able to went to your concert after waiting for like 14 years
I’m for real when i say it’s even better than mazzy star’s version
So Sad So Real So Beautiful! I love this version so much!
literally each cover of this song is beautiful and ethereal
this is all ive ever wanted
What an incredibly beautiful video. I'm mad I didn't think of this concept for my own work. Huge props to everyone involved
Such a smart and overdue cover
of a CLASSIC
It's got a deftones feeling to it, very nicely done.
More like Team Sleep but, yeah.
This video is so supremely brilliant. good grief.
Ooooooh the muscle memories
oh my 😭😭😭😭 myia folick is an angel
Incredible stuff, American Football. The emotions that I feel from your guys' music is unlike any other.
The original song is one of my favorites of all time and this one is just as stunning
We will miss Steve but American football is much more than its members. This video hits really hard, but in a beautiful way. Just loved it.
I have been hearing the original so much in the media during 2021/2022 that was kinda obvious it would pop up gain as a cover.
And what a GREAT cover this is! Loved the video as well!! 🤍
american football forever
Wow this music video is really powerfully sad and beautiful
I never realized how awesome this music video is
It's one of the most... you know heartbreaking episodes of my life
That's why I'm here 🙏🏻
Never heard of American Football. This probably appeared on my feed because I've been watching Mazzy Star videos. I was totally prepared to hate this cover but ended up loving it.
SEDIH MOMENT BOISSSS :' AND I'LL ALWAYS MISS YOU STEVEEEEEEE
:(
This deserves so so many more views❤ incredible!!!!
"The mass of (hu)mans lead lives of quiet desperation, and go to the grave with the song still in them"
i am physically ill over this
First time I heard this band, wouldn't have thought it possible, but a good cover of a beautiful song.
