I love how whimsical Witch Hat Atelier feels. I'm excited to see how it translates in the anime. But a few of my favorite reads from the year would be Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan, Prince Freya, and Skip Beat!
@@tonireadsmanga Idk whether this is an unpopular opinion, but I honestly hope Witch Hat Atelier is adapted by Kinema Citrus. If Witch Hat Atelier has similar staff to Shojo Kageki Revue Starlight, then it will surely be a masterpiece.
I love What Did You Eat Yesterday! I don't read much slice of life, but there's just something about that one that keeps me looking forward to catching up with the characters and seeing the meals they're eating and preparing. I really enjoyed what I read of Witch and the Beast and I highly recommend the Yowamushi Pedal anime. I have read the first omnibus of the manga and enjoyed it but I've watched the first two and a half seasons of the anime and I would say I probably enjoy it more. It would have been interesting to experience it the other way around, but I feel like with stories that have a lot of movement (whether it be sports or dance), I enjoy the experience of watching the scenes more than reading them. Nausicaa is another one I really need to finish reading. It was my brother's favorite film to watch when we were growing up, so I am very familiar with the beginning part of the manga, but I stopped reading after that and really need to get back to it. I tried the Yowamushi Pedal anime a few years ago and unfortunately I had issues with the pacing. I might be more into it now that I’m familiar with and invested in the characters though.
@@tonireadsmanga I think the thing that attracts me to the anime is the music. I'm very much a music person, so if the soundtrack is one that I like, it definitely increases my experience with any show. If you do try out the anime again, I'd be interested to see if you enjoyed it more than you did before after reading!
Thanks! I’ve seen a few reviews that criticize Hellsing as being just mindless action but I had a lot of fun with it. And Nausicaa basically speaks for itself. I hope you have a great 2024!
OMG, I finally found that Hagio Moto manga I had read years ago but forgot the name of! It's "Otherworld Barbara". Thanks. PS. You're right about it being strange for sure. It's a supernatural story crossed with sci-fi ideas, something that was common to old-school shoujo from that era and less common today. :)
I loved the blending of genres in Otherworld Barbara, and the mystery and atmosphere completely captivated me. Here’s hoping I get to read a lot more weird manga like this in 2024 :)

Reading the deluxe editions of Hellsing was a great way to appreciate the art for the series. I’m really glad I gave it a chance.

I staid away from Hellsing like I do Berserk. You are making me want to try it.
I obviously haven’t read Berserk but Hellsing was pretty fun since I didn’t take it very seriously. And I like vampires lol
