What has been your favourite Radiance release so far?
‘The Bride Wore Black’; ‘Welcome To The Dollhouse’; ‘The Dead Mother’; ‘Messiah Of Evil’ are some of my favourites of theirs Elliot 😀👍
I'm torn between "Big Time Gambling Boss" and "Messiah of Evil". Both of those films were among my greatest cinematic discoveries of last year.
Messiah of Evil, The Working Class Goes to Heaven, A Moment Of Romance comes to mind first but easily the best boutique label of last year. I, the Executioner is something I have to order asap.
Radiance are doing some amazing work and I’m very excited for Suzhou River to release in March !

Have to disagree with one of the comments here about them losing momentum, they've been a breath of fresh air on the scene since they launched and as far as the ones ive picked up, they've been right up my street. The Japanese releases in particular have been great, but they've also mixed that with wacky titles like Miami Blues, Messiah of Evil, Cutter and Bone etc. I cant ask for more 😅
You mention Miami Blues and Cutter and Bone (Cutter’s Way) as great titles. Yes! They are both incredible titles but they were both released in the first slate nearly a year ago. And that’s what I’m saying. There were some amazing releases. As I said, I jumped for joy when they were released. Also, Welcome to the Dollhouse was in my top 5 releases of the year and The Hot Spot was fun, but again, all released the first half of last year.
I’m not into Japanese movies, like you, but in my opinion there have been too many for the releases to be mixed and varied. Variety is what Fran stressed in is early interviews and we got that, initially. I hope they can replicate Q1 and Q2 of last year is what I’m saying.
@@modestyblaise4167You're completely forgetting their 4 box sets, all released in Q3 and Q4. They are all amazing and have been praised everywhere as some of the best releases of the year.
Thank you for putting me on to Radiance! So far I've watched Big Time Gambling Boss, Messiah of Evil and The Bride Wore Black and they're all bangers. I just bought the Piotr Szulkin box and Elegant Beast and I'm looking forward to checking those out

The Sting of Death is my most anticipated film from this month. The tone of it looks so controlled and interesting, reminding me of Cure (1997). My favourite Radiance release and general film discovery would be The End of Civilization: Three Films by Piotr Szulkin boxset, having never previously heard of his work it was a great release. Still got my fingers crossed they’ll release A Visitor to a Museum (1989) by Konstantin Lopushansky.
Excited to check these out, got them in the watch pile on my TV unit ready to go. If Radiance have a year like they did last year, they could very well be in the running for best label...at least to my tastes and wants from a boutique label. Cheers pal 👍

Given their resources are nowhere near Criterion, they've managed to put together some amazing packages, and not just the usual suspects. I've been introduced to at least a dozen films by Radiance, and the picture quality, artwork and extras are always top notch. You can tell they love what they do. I can't imagine we'll be seeing Love & Basketball from them.
If you are puzzled why there is no radiance blu ray films of 39 and 41 radiance are saying they have not bin released yet but there is no sign of there ever being released is there anybody got the same problem
I hear mentioned that Radiance are planning a couple of 4k HDR releases. Have you heard anything about this?
I love Radiance and have most things they’ve put out - but I’ll have be honest and say I haven’t enjoyed everything (perhaps it’s naive of me to expect anything else?). However on the plus side it’s allowed me to discover new directors and a new genre. I’m looking forward to their new releases, but I think I’ll have to be more selective in the future due to the cost and space considerations. Brilliant company though
They're one of the only labels aside from BFI and very rarely Criterion still releasing underseen Asian films. At this point I just blind buy all of their asian releases
tbh i want to like raindance cos of some of the films i like . howver they over price and dont really do much restration wise

Momentum? I’d say they’ve dropped off and gone in a completely different direction than what Fran implied at launch. After exchanging some recent messages with him/Radiance, I’m really not expecting much going forward.
I’m shocked to hear that to be honest! For my tastes, Radiance have been on top form the entire year. Especially the boxsets have been magnificent. I’m surprised to hear you say they’ve gone in a completely different direction since launch, as this month’s titles alone feel very much in line with the initial release slate. But fair enough, it’s interesting to have this sort of discussion and thanks for watching.
@@ElliotCoen Many titles released the first half of last year saw me jumping for joy, but there’s nothing I’ve been interested in since. Oh well, different strokes as they say.
@@modestyblaise4167I find this with other labels too mind, I adore Indicator and regularly go wild during their sales but their more recent releases have not been inspiring at all, Arrow too
