Poor Pipino...he sure tried as hard as he could. He landed some very strong punches but they didn't seem to faze Montez. Tommy Hearns destroyed his aura of invincibility and exposed his weaknesses. He generated his power by pulling his punches back before he threw them, a fatal flaw when he began to fight more skilled boxers. I first saw him on TV after his defeat of Ranzany. He had established a reputation as a savage puncher and a real challenge to the likes of Leonard, Hearns and Duran. But what I saw in that televised fight was a brawler who looked surprisingly amateurish, didn't know how to throw a professional fighter's punch and who was so easy to hit. I know he was hailed as a hero in Mexico and without having seen him, I believed he was very dangerous and special. Then I saw him fight and know he had no chance against upper echelon fighters.

When Pipino Cuevas lost to Roger Stafford; as he was outslugged by Roger in a ten round unanimous decision. It was the beginning of the end of his career. He should've retired then!
Actually, he should've retired when he lost to Duran in 4 rounds.

Surely there should be a rule that the two fighters must wear different color trunks.

It almost looked like Cuevas knocked himself out by doing a 360 deg. pirouette after missing a big left hook and landing hard and awkwardly on the canvas. However, a closer inspection reveals that Montes did land the initial left hook on Cuevas which caused him to miss his own left hook.
