Taylor is thought to be the most innovative forward thinking guitar company but the most innovative guitar of the last 100 years has come from Martin .

I bought one. I'm completely knocked out with it in every respect. I was always a Taylor fan but Martin have out-Taylored Taylor! Looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous and is a delight to play with the neck design and accessibility. Astonishing how a guitar with such a radically different neck joint and body shape, still sounds exactly like a Martin - only better. The amplified sound is one of the best I've heard - if you play at any volume or with drums, the mic blend setups are is too problematic. This is an acoustic for playing live with a band but also perfect for a solo singer, song-writer. Genius Martin!

I too am looking at this guitar. Thanks for posting. Sounds great unamplified but I find the Matrix pickup a bit elastic band sounding. I wish there was a way to convert the installed Matrix to one of Fishmans dual source pickups with an internal mic. Taylor pickups are much better but it sounds better than the Taylors in the same price range unamplified IMO and plays better. Should I spend slightly more and get a Furch Green GC-SR and add a pickup later?

Bought this guitar a couple weeks ago. Have a Taylor 314-ce I also love. The Martin SC-13e exceeds every bit of the hype. From the moment I touched this guitar I literally can’t wait to play it constantly. Great sound, great feel, great instrument, it’s nothing short of an amazing acoustic guitar. And I’m 67, the only regret I have is it took so long to find something this fine to play.
Looking for a great acoustic guitar you will love to play, look no further, worth every penny and a whole lot more!

Hope people are still hearing your reviews. Your analysis of this instrument was extremely fair, thorough, balanced and spot on. You have great playing skill, but your reviews are even better. It’s you and guys like you who convinced me to order this guitar from Martin sight unseen because they never had it in stock through my local music shop (Parkway Music) in Upstate NY outside Albany. Thank you many times over this is such a joyful instrument to play, I love it, and would never have risked the expense sight unseen without your review and others like it. Great job, my friend, wish I had your talents both playing and reviewing.😊🎉

The Internet and social media are often a jungle, you bring the light to a place that often very dark and used for all the wrong reasons. I'm primarily an electric guitar player but find myself needing a decent acoustic/electric guitar again. I keep researching models and specs and find you have videos for almost every one I'm interested in. Not being able to try all the guitars out myself is frustrating. I love how you showcase rhythm and lead playing and your insights into what you like and dislike are extremely helpful. I thought I wanted another large bodied acoustic for the tone, but what you mentioned (@ 8:27 ) about a smaller body being easier on the strumming hand is a problem I've only experienced on acoustics. I'm not a small man by any means, but I never attributed it to the body size before. It makes perfect sense now. This has me rethinking everything. lol. Thanks! Thank you for your nice style of playing, I thoroughly enjoyed listening. I just ordered one of the SC-13E Special versions yesterday. I am also having it PLEK'ed. I struggled with the choice as I was on a search for the more traditional Martin acoustic style and short scale length. I started playing guitar in the summer of '69, like the song says, and I'm more of electric guitar player with some acoustic roots all the way back. I enjoy both and have a 2018/2019 Custom Standard Les Paul, a Takamine P3DC12 P3D Pro 12-str, and a Victor, (made in Spain), classical/flamenco 6 string acoustic. I also used to own a Fender Statocaster, (about 1985ish), which had such a narrow, slim neck with such low, fast action with the Xtra Slinky 8's strings I played on it. The single cutaway with the heel-less taper and helix neck design influenced my choice for full neck/fretboard accessibility. I am not regretting my decision at all. It will be a nice addition to my axe arsenal, and plan to use them all on stage in the near future.

This guitar has a very "sweet" and balanced tonality. Fingers crossed Martin announces a fancy-pants deluxe version at NAMM this year, hopefully with better electronics. And with the same inlay design. I don't know what it is about that bullseye on the 12th fret, but it's speakin' to me. I could see pretty much any color looking cool, too. Amber? Emerald? Amethyst? Ruby? Let's see 'em all, Martin, I'll bankrupt myself for you
And Thanks for this, Jon, best demo I've seen of this guitar. I really love the design of it, but I'm not a huge fan of the plugged-in sounds, which I'd definitely rely on for home recording. Still tempted to pick one up anyway.

When I first saw this guitar in a Martin video earlier, I didn't like the shape. But, for some reason, when I saw it in this video, it didn't look quite so bad. It reminds me of a jazz master, maybe? The veneer on the back is very well done. The neck looks great. The X bracing on the back is a bit distracting because it is so unusual. Not sure that it would make much difference for the sound. While I don't mind a veneer guitar, $1500 seems a bit high. But, everything is getting so expensive anymore. That's why I like Harley Benton guitars!

This guitar seems to be made for the guitarists who swap between electric and acoustic guitars during shows. This one handles more like an electric guitar; the bout is skewed like some Fender and Gibson electric guitars (say, Fender Jazzmaster or LH Gibson Firebird). Complex shape asked for a laminate body. However, best acoustic designs are symmetric or nearly symmetric, for a reason. This guitar's asymmetric shape and bracing influenced its acoustic tone, which is not good enough anymore for serious acoustic work and studio recording. (You have tested Japanese made guitars that cost way less, and sound way better acoustically.) Btw, your testing, as always, was excellent, and it clearly revealed pluses and minuses of this guitar.

Sounds great but the looks will take getting used to.

I sold my PRS SE Angeles AX20E and bought the Martin SC-10E. I preferred the look of the SC10 more and the fact it was £300 cheaper than the SC13 was a bonus.
