    My favorite features finally getting it in the mail and owning my first electric bicycle!!!
    There's many of us out there that truly appreciate the fact that if we want a quick review, we can view one person's channel for a 5-minute review or if we want a really in depth review while we're killing time in a hotel during travel, we can watch a 30-minute review and find out everything we wanted to know. Thanks for making the video and contributing to the community!

    After 1100 miles my stock tires were worn out. They did not do well in the dirt for me. Any mud and they sucked unless you were going very very slowly. I swapped to some off road tires that are super but buzz loudly. I then switched to Zee Zig zag and they are silent. Slide around a bit. My adventure motorcycles have some tread patterns I hope come to fat tire bikes.

    I just took my Rad Rover 6 Plus out for 2 hours today. I live in an area with mostly hills, some steep. During a ride through a local golf course I came upon a medium in length, steep incline. I had it on easy pedaling (level 2-3) with pedal assist adjusted to 5, and nothing. I had to stop and walk the bike up the rest of the incline. I am not a strong rider - so this could just be me. This bike is a beast in weight. I decided to leave the course and go up other steep hills in my neighborhood. When I was in pedal assist 2-3, I still had throttle, but once I went to assist 5, I had nothing. I tried all different things with easy pedaling + assist 2, 3, 4....but once the hill became more steep, there was no assist on 5, OR no throttle with lower levels assist - nothing. I live over a very steep long hill, so now I am wondering if I just shouldn't have converted my mtn. bike to an e-bike since the RAD seems to be a dog.

    I love our RR6 except for the dumb battery design. If you blow the fuse you have to hack into the battery and that's not easy. Now the new batteries have the fuse soldered in so it's even harder.

  • @Altema22

    I have to admit that I stopped the video in shock at the bile of broken bikes! Good review though, and I also prefer bigger buttons and a dedicated headlight switch. Small buttons are NOT glove friendly! Too bad about losing the USB port, as I used it to power my GoPro. Regarding their USB adapter, does it run off of a 48 volt source?
    I like the new battery, and the one-handed removal and installation is far better than the clumsy implementation on other brands. Too bad about the battery key's loss of the "locked but not on" feature. The rear light is convenient, but I prefer it to be a little higher. It is interesting the Rad has a brake light that works wile the lights are on or off, while $3600 Trek e-bikes have no brake light. Thanks for the video!

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it's a "bike sculpture". It is surprisingly sturdy - I have some other shots of it but decided not to include it in this video. I'm not sure on the USB adapter, I'll have to check on that. Thanks for watching! Always good to hear your perspective as an experienced Rad owner.

    Got my Radrover 6 Plus a week ago, it has power to the display but the motor doesn't respond. They shut down their support line and their email support is just plain terrible. In reply to my email they sent me instructions to replace the fuse in the battery. The Radrover 6 Plus has a sealed battery that if you open it you void the warranty. They want a significant restocking fee to take this garden ornament back.
    Looks like my best option is to make sure it is insured and leave it outside so someone else can have the grief.

      @@jaylonsorrells5139 Yesterday, a week into this, I was sent a diagnostic procedure that essentially had me disconnect all the wires to the controller, do a reset, then try to activate the motor without the lights and brakes. No joy. Waiting for their next suggestion. I did notice that the heat shrink covering the wire into the motor has a small tear, but I don't think that is the issue since I've tested the pin positions on the lead to the motor and while I can measure some voltages, none of them change when the throttle is activated, so I think it is a bad controller.
      They made the statement that all their products are subject to quality testing before shipping, but I would say my experience plus the fact they are overwhelmed with support requests suggests there is little or no testing.

    Great review! I am 2 weeks into my RadRover 6 ST and absolutely loving it. One item of note is that my grips ended up being the rubberized version, not the faux leather. I really like that change personally. and potentially that is part of a supply chain issue? Love the overall feel of the bike. have added the front and rear baskets, a mirror(your recommendation), and a phone holder. No other mods yet. I have not played with the settings to increase speed but am intrigued by it. Any idea how Rad feels about that? Any warranty issue if you alter the settings that you know of?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 2 lety +2

      Good to hear Kevin! Interesting regarding the difference of grips. Agree, perhaps a supply chain issue. If you like the rubberized ones you'll love the Ergon locking ones if you ever want to upgrade (I did a video on it). Rad does not recommend increasing the speed which is one of the main reasons it is hidden. Not sure how it might impact warranty but also not sure how they would know you modified the max speed. Thanks for watching!

I'm guessing they solved this problem in the new 'Plus' models. I agree about Rad's reputation, they are of good quality and very rugged bikes. Even at 1299 bf sale, its fairly overpriced relative to competition. a true 500w motor, maxing at 750w on heavy 70+ lb fat tire bike @ 20mph is a hard pass for me. People paying $2k for this are low information buyers.

    Thanks for the great review! One thing I can't seem to find out about the RadRover 6 Plus is how it rides when you are not using the motor. Is it still ridable with a flat battery? Or is the resistance to pedalling and overall weight of the bike simply too much to be able to cycle it without help from the motor?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  Před 2 lety +4

      Hi there, it is rideable but hills will be a challenge. Think 7-11 mph tops. So in a pinch on flat ground you will make progress but best to avoid this happening if at all possible.

      I just got one, I’m 6’3, got it dialed in and very comfortable with a cloud 9 seat (no rear suspension). Seat height should be fine, handlebar design and height isn’t optimized for tall people though. I do need to lean over a little on it, but going hands free to handlebars is pretty natural. I might end up getting a stem extension if I want to raise the bars to ride upright, but I’m happy with the slightly more aggressive position for the time being. If you plan on riding upright at 6’5 you might as well order the extension now.

I was getting knee pain in my left leg with the standard 350mm seatpost. I was getting "numb hands" with the 420mm seatpost without adding the adjustable handlebar stem. I also added larger pedals for my size 14 shoes when I ride bumpy single-track trails.
