    Great show! Everyone brings a varied degree of expertise on football that blends so well. Owen and Raj’s perspective on EPL midfield play was fantastic as it relates to Viera, Sambi and ESR.

    Can't believe you didn't call the "Ask the doctor" section "What's up Doc?"

    I like Eoin - smart guy!! I think Arteta is very calculated and whilst he is passionate I think he creates these situations on purpose to put pressure on officials and stir a reaction from players and fans. And Sophie I think you are right. People don't think he has earned the right to be cranky. It's B.S. he is trying to break into the elite who use all these tools to gain advantages. He has seen it from the inside with Pep.

    I agree that our players need to circle the ref as much as they can. We always the nicer team and it is clear that these refs make calls based on some player influence.
    If we protested enough I think VAR gives us the Burn penalty.

      I mean like they usually do check, if there is an error only they check var

    Why are you talking like Newcastle are the first team to come to the Emirates and sit and counter like it's a new tactic? Look how Forest started against us, teams have tried to do exactly what Newcastle have done but we have broken them down. Newcastle are the best defensive team in the league according to stats so add to that them playing in a defensive style and it's going to be difficult, not many teams higher in the table however will come and play like that so I don't think it's a massive issue, we could also still have won the game with some of the chances we had.

      100% agreed, brentford, everton and many teams play like that, Newcastle have good defenders and they defended well. We also had a few chances, maybe fresher legs (wingers and a stricker to win headers could have been useful)

    You guys are a bunch of lightweights if that is the sum total of your Christmas/New Year sinning!!. I'm carb free 5 days a week but tend to relax a little a weekends. We have a takeaway on Saturday (Indian or Chinese) but I hardly touch the rice. On Sundays I may have a few potatoes. So over Christmas/New year, there was copious amounts of red wine, mince pies, cheese and biscuits, lots of leftovers. Last week made the Hairy Bikers Christmas leftover pie (basically turkey, gammon, stuffing and leeks, although Mrs H had thrown away the left over stuffing 😤. This week back on the no carbs and zero alcohol since Sunday so back on track. Chinese tomorrow though and some nice red! I will say at this point I was in the gym every day it was open over that period, only closed Christmas Day Boxing Day and New Year's day so not all bad 👍

      @The Gooner Talk in 2019 I stopped drinking wine and cut out bread, potatoes, rice and pasta, I lost 3 stone, not sure how long it actually took but no more than 4 or 5 months. Thanks to Covid and lockdowns I'm about a stone more now than I got down to then. I don't know if I ever mentioned in the chat I used to referee at a pretty decent level, so used to run pretty much every day, sadly my knees are shot now so it's mainly rowing and x trainer for cardio. For what it's worth I refereed once at Highbury, in the Arsenal youth team that night were, Michael Thomas, Gus Ceasar Tony Adams, Martin Keown and David Rocastle, Niall Quinn was a sub. Still have the programme (basically a team sheet) from memory it was 1983 (or 4)

    I like odegaarde ,but there are times i think SMITH ROWE is tge better fit ,odegaarde hits some great shots and passes ,yet he can go nearly a whole game when at the critical time he is back on his heels ,off balance, not seitched on ,resulting in a skier over tge top or a scuffed and wasted chance,,. He has been out now for a while so ESR may need some time , we need him .Esr and Jesus ,a strong midfielder and a fleet wideman ,,my new years wishes..

    • @RELEONSK
      @RELEONSK Před rokem +2

      There is a reason why odegaard, martinelli and Saka were all relatively quiet and that was that Newcastle had 2 banks of 5 sat on the edge of their area, any time odegaard got the ball he was surrounded by 2-3 players, same with martinelli and Saka, nigh on impossible to break that down, and for some games you might get that break and score that goal there will be other games where the ball just doesn't break for you.

    Watched some amazing nonsense from Dermot Gallagher on Sky, justifying the non award of a penalty for the Gabriel shirt pull. Essentially his stance was that the referee couldn't see it from his position therefore he can't be deemed to have made a clear and obvious error. That defies belief to me. So essentially he is saying VAR will not get involved in something the referee hasn't seen, so by that logic if a player commits a sending off offence that the referee doesn't see VAR won't get involved. If that is the case what is the point of having it? Surely the point of it is if a clear and obvious offence, sending off, penalty, an offence leading up a goal occurs and is clear and obvious (I can't see how much more clear and obvious than having the sponsors logo pulled around to your back you can get) then VAR kicks in. Otherwise there really is no point. I don't think I've ever seen Gallagher say a decision that has not gone our way was incorrect, similarly I don't think I've seen him say a contentious decision that has gone our way I correct, he is so anti Arsenal it's embarrassing!
