Britain's Princess of Wales has reemerged on the international stage with a visit to a creche in Paris for children from disadvantaged homes.
Its her first official overseas trip since she wound back her public duties more than a year ago to avoid intensive media scrutiny over her separation from Prince Charles.
The 20th arrondisement in Paris is a poor immigrant area.
The visit of the Princess came as something as a surprise for its residents, since they only knew she was coming an hour before.
Diana arrived with a full police escort and was quickly ushered in side the school.
Once inside she chatted away to teachers and children, kissing several of the youngsters.
The creche looks after some 50 children up to three years old on a 24 hour basis if necessary.
The director of the creche, Christine Auguin, said she was delighted Princess Diana had especially chosen to visit the facility.
When the media were ushered out after a few minutes, the Princess visibly relaxed.
She left in her cavalcade to go to a concert and banquet in the Palace of Versailles.
A greater change of scene is hard to imagine.
