  • Easy tutorial on how to choose cushion foam, the easiest and most accurate way to cut it out, and how to wrap it in batting. The result will be a nice snugly fitting cover and a soft, plush, yet supportive foam insert for the perfect cushion. This works for chair cushions, bench cushions, window seat cushions, and even sofa cushions!

    I recently took apart shredded cushion covers and discovered that the cushion batting had been sewn closed with a loose ladder stitch. Using a spray adhesive for the batting seems so much easier. 🙂

      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před rokem +1

      It is faster and easier to use spray adhesive but I’ve actually sewn batting closed many times! It works just as well or better :)

    Hi Nancy! I’m so thrilled to find your channel!!! This is so helpful!! I’m getting ready to make my first cushion- an L Shape that was cut out to my seat measurements by upholstery shop. Should I cut my fabric 1/4 inch smaller, since I didn’t have foam cut 1/4 inch larger? Thank you!

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare
      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před rokem +3

      Hi there! The size of the cover dictates the finished size of the cushion, so if making the cover a little smaller won’t result in the cushion being too small you could certainly do that. However if that 1/2” overall will make a visual difference where the cushion looks a bit small for the space you could try adding an additional layer of Dacron wrap. Or maybe split the difference and make the cover 1/8” smaller all around :)

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare

      I have used silk wrap in the past and found it helpful (mostly if the foam is not wrapped) but I don’t make enough cushions these days to make it worth keeping in stock

    My friend, I don’t know how you managed to do the spray and glue and shaping without gloves. I have fibers all over my fingers right now. 😅 It was a different spray adhesive from JoAnne’s, but it appeared to work the same. Love this set of videos.

    Hi Nancy, I'm about to start a project making several foam cushion covers. Please can you help me by explaining why I should wrap my foam with dacron first, rather than just use the foam by itself? Your videos are great BTW 👍

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare
      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před rokem +2

      Sure! The reason foam is wrapped is that it gives the foam a softer and more luxurious look and feel. You can certainly just wrap the foam, but it looks very "boxy".

    If I just wanted to replace the Dacron is that possible

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare
      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před rokem +1

      Certainly! Just take off the old and replace with new using spray adhesive or wrapping and whipstitching the edges to hold it in place. Take note of the condition of the foam though - if the Dacron is in really bad shape the foam may also need replacing.

    Hello Teacher...what type of foam is used in there ?

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare
      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před 6 dny

      Hi there, I use upholstery foam, and the kind depends on the project. It comes in different densities and thicknesses. I use denser, firmer foam for thinner cushions, and softer foam for thicker cushions. I think this was 2" medium density.

    Those sprays are so bad for the environment & your lungs.

    • @ASquarePillowIsntSquare
      @ASquarePillowIsntSquare  Před rokem +3

      You’re not wrong… I use them minimally, in a well ventilated space. There is adhesive that is applied with air pressure but that set up is for professional use. For the occasional home sewing project this is what we have 🤷‍♀️

    • @user-mv9tt4st9k
      @user-mv9tt4st9k Před rokem +2

      My husband restricted me to using Spray 505 outdoors. The amount getting into the environment is minimal if used carefully, and a mask can be worn to avoid inhaling the spray. As a workaround you could experiment with a dilution of non toxic fabric glue mixed with water in a spray bottle, though it would need to completely dry and will likely not be as effective.
