cheap knockoff of a Beretta 92?

I own a blued version of the PT92 and it is a wonderful pistol that is accurate, dependable, has a really nice trigger pull, and has never failed me in a lot of years since I bought it. I own a few other Taurus firearms and have found them to be fantastic firearms, despite what people say about them.

Tim, incorrect: Beretta *SOLD* the design to Taurus, along with the entire factory, tooling, engineering notes, et al when their contract to manufacture model 92s for the Brazilian military and police expired.
These are no more "knock offs" than the Zenith roller locked H&K guns that are manufactured in Turkey on tooling provided by H&K in tandem with factory training and technical support are.
Edit: n/m, you touched on the safety/decocker location as well...
And yeah, the quality of the finish on the blingey PT guns is lacking. Their blued/parkerized models are pretty decent. I'm not a fan of shiny, flashy guns. I prefer basic black, or FDE.

Defineately the PPX wins. The grip does look funky, but it feels surprisingly comfortable. And Tim is 100% correct. The trigger pull is fantastic. I actually bought mine second hand for 200 bucks and used it at a front sight 4 day handgun course. It shoots as well my Sig P220. Just not nearly as heavy. It’s now a permanent house gun. Only down side was that I had to get a custom kydex holster made for it because nobody made a holster for it and not even the universal nylon Chinese holsters out there fit it.

ROFL at the implication that Taurus is as good as Beretta:
      1) Beretta actually took care of their tooling, Taurus didn't.
      2) Beretta got better tooling over time, while Taurus got worse.
      3) Beretta got modern machining. If Taurus is still using the same tooling from back then, then that stuff is worn and useless now.
      4) Beretta has a little thing called quality control and standards. Taurus doesn't.

Never had a malfunction with pt92. Not my favorite weapon by a long shot but will never sell it. Sorry Tim! Taurus quality control is corrected by excellent customer service if ever necessary. well, I'll vote for the Taurus because back in the early '90s I carried on duty a PT92 AF for about 7 years and trade it in about 1999 for a very expensive Walther P99 (paid the triple amount of money in the same store). The Taurus had traditional rifling vs the Walther with the polygonal an shorter barrel. I believe you should make a cronograph test, a speed test and a longer range shooting. Then you'll discover many more "details" as I did

My first pistol was a Taurus PT 92, made in 1990. Rear sight is part of top slide, not dovetailed in.
It's accurate and has been extremely reliable for range/carry use. I don't like the lack of decocker and the DA/SA feature but otherwise, I can't complain. I probably would not buy a PT-92 with the dovetailed sights.

Had a hard time choosing as I like them both, but ended up voting the Walther PPX.
Now that said, I do have a very well worn Taurus PT92, bought new in July 1992, that has served me very reliably, and still does.
One thing that Jason needs to be very aware of is that the Rear Sight retains the Automatic Firing Pin Lock, whose Spring and Cap
will launch into low earth orbit, should the Rear Sight move over too far. Looks like the Metal Friction Plate that comes on the
bottom of the Plastic Rear Sight is missing.
Also, I recommend replacing the Taurus Locking Block with a current Beretta Locking Block. The older versions tend to break
and Taurus never upgraded this part, as Beretta did. Currently, my PT92 uses a 2nd Generation Beretta Locking Block and a
15 lb Wolff Recoil Spring along with a Wolff Firing Pin Spring.

"Walther synonymous with quality." I laughed so hard I peed a little. There were 6,000 P5 compacts with mismanufactured barrels imported in the 90's. They all had poor quality frames with defective finishes and poor quality aluminum. Walther knew about it all and released them anyway. Walther was one of the companies that tanked interarms due to crappy build quality. I have seen so many unreliable ppk's (read all ppk models chambered in 380 from 1960's to 1980's) if it wasn't for couch commandos and James Bond films they would have been discontinued in the 70's and rightfully so.

You have to make a distinction between the Umarex manufactured guns and the original Walther Ulm plant. The Umarex guns like the CCP, PK380, and P22 are crap compared to the Ulm guns. The Creed/PPX is still an Ulm produced Walther and is a good gun, but sadly it borrows some design shortcuts from the Umarex family, like a three part barrel and modular breech. All in all Walther has been slipping ever since the PPQ and PPS.

We all shot it again and it only happened with him. We looked into it and realized he was limp wristing the gun. His poor grip on the gun wasn't the Glock's fault.

I'll take the Taurus *_every damn time._* Taurus Beretta 'clones' have always treated me great save for their lack luster finish. Always skip the stainless models, unless you don't care. I've put hundreds rounds through the three models of them I've had over the years (92, 99, and 101) and I never had a single malfunction out of any of them.
But as a counter I've had to help a friend struggle through having to ship his Walther several tips back to the factory for repair. It wasn't a PPX thought, I think it was a PPS.
