I have done a lot of solo riding, and I find it more comfortable & convenient as against group riding and as I feel I can focus better on the road, traffic, obstructions, maintain my comfort speed, stop when I feel like etc. instead of having other bikers on my mind, which may affect concentration. The biggest disadvantage of solo riding is of course if something untoward happens and there's no assistance or support. To each his or her own. In safe, easy terrain & wide road system countries solo riding is amazing.

Yes solo trips are sometimes really dangerous.
Norarly( ITCHY BOOTS) is really a legend traveling across the World.
She started from India to Europe
Then from argentina to Alaska really a spectacular journey. Fells like
you are watching a documentary movie.

@@navinbabji YES brother, I watched Debu Bhai most of videos.
But her videography is on next level. Best thing is that she was a Geologist who is tarvelling. She knows most of Interesting things and tells you like you are really there. You can not imagine a woman riding solo around the world.
She passed from the Mexican cartel areas, she dogged the "The Darien Gap". Filmed the Beautiful scenery of Equador. Volcanos and various mountain ranges.
I'm saying enthusiasm is on next level.

Man where is Debu and where is Norally? She is way way more experienced.

    • @navinbabji
      @navinbabji Před 9 měsíci

@@diaryofawanderingboot4058 Yes of course she is more experienced, but the reason for that is, she is a foreigner and she can get visa's for many countries easily and also in some countries she doesn't even need a visa, but being from India, Debu bhai couldn't get visa so easily and he literally had to plan for a full year and apply for visa to the different countries that he was going to travel to. Additionally Debu bhai had to return early from his trip because his mother's health wasn't good and eventually she passed away a couple of months after Debu bhai returned. Also the financial constraints that are faced by Indians while travelling abroad is too much, Noraly's 100 Euro's could help her travel a longer distance than Debu bhai's 100 rupees would. The biggest reason that a majority of moto vloggers from India aren't able to travel the world on a motorcycle is because of what reasons I cited above. Or else there would've been so many Indian moto vloggers riding across the world. 👍👍

Its almost a decade now that I have been a motorcycle enthusiast (solo) without any social-media footprints.. A solo trip demands complete 'awareness' our own ability , knowledge of the places we visit and the know-how of the vehicle.. if we over or under estimate any one of them, soon it may become a learning lesson.. so in that regards, I completely agree with your view 👍🏼

Haven't ridden much but have done a few solo rides as well as a few group rides. What I have learnt so far:
    1) In case of a group ride, share your basic info like blood group, emergency contact number, insurance details(if necessary).
In case of a solo ride, inform a family member of the detailed plan and phone numbers of the hotels(in case of pre bookings) where you would be staying. Frequently update the family about the ride progress.
    2) For groups, I would try to do a few short rides with the group or person (in case of a two person ride) just to have some bond building and understanding how the other person rides or handles situations, e.g I like to take frequent stops at places that I find interesting to photograph. And I also do not ride at higher speeds (personal choice) and do not rush to reach a place.
I always insist on starting early and ending the ride before sunset(mainly because my bike's tyres are tube type!).
My suggestion would be to not go on long rides with a person who you are not familiar with.
    3) I carry basic spares like clutch and accl cables, fuses, a puncture repair kit and tyre inflator, etc.
    4) I try to make a mental note of places I pass through just in case I have a breakdown and that can help me reach the nearest place.
    5) For group rides, try to discuss a strategy for the day depending upon the expected terrain, fuel stops, food breaks. Keep rotating places so that you know that the person (or persons) you are riding with is still in the group and hasn't gone too far.
Maintain safe distance between the riders.
    6) For solo or group rides, I try talking to the possible hotels that I may probably halt at (depends on the weather, road conditions, etc) as my destination for the day can change. This has happened with me on a group (of two) ride where we had to halt at a place about 40kms from our expected destination due to very bad road conditions but we still had about an hour or two of daylight remaining.
    7) Have printouts(along with digital data in the phone) of the detailed itinerary and route along with important contact numbers.
Carry original and photocopies of important documents.
Carry the spare key in a safe storage space.
Try to find out and note locations and contact numbers of the service centres of your bike's brand along the route you are travelling.
    8) Keep some flexibility in the ride schedule in terms of number of days.
Plan on the financials in terms of the amount of cash to carry, where to keep emergency funds, how many debit cards to carry, etc
Discuss with a doctor and have a basic first aid kit ready.
These are some of the points I go through before planning a ride. In case I remember more I will add them later.

I am with u on this, 2 riders is tough and more than 2 is impossible. 😅 Solo is many times boring and risky and with group it's always peer pressure and politics. And lastly as u said never let anyone know what u are going to do and always stop in safe places where ur gut feels it's secure. And when solo all the show off and speeds have to be calculated and keep in mind tht u are all alone all the time no matter what u will have to face it. So always play it safe. In group, it's always someone who will play the spoil sport and ruin the trip. So finally u need to take the call, it's either u sacrifice the peace or sacrifice the safety.

Doing solo rides for the past 10years
    1. Sunrise to Sunset policy always in effect.
2.The point you mentioned about not revealing your plans or your origins sometimes doesn't work, I was visiting a border area and was the only visitor to the village, looking at my plates they refused to believe my start location. A kid at one of the toll plaza could identify the city I belonged to looking at the reg plates.
3.Less interaction with the locals enroute is best, all involved get comfortable and reveal unnecessary information, especially when you have elders travelling with you (a car situation). The elders/parents after a certain age think that the world is the same which may land everyone in a soup.
Also you are twice as sharp as you would be in a group, you would not risk a crazy maneuver or decision because you know there is no back-up.

    1st point: I ride solo
2nd point: I ride tubeless tyres wala bike
3rd point: When I was going to Puri, I did not ride after 8pm. I read the minds of people I am speaking with and spontaneously I decide how much I should open myself to them. One drunk guy around 7pm in the night told me to not to take that route to Puri which you took. He also told me to be careful about the railway gate. I did not continue. I had booked the hotel in Puri and did not continue to Puri. Lost the money I paid for Puri hotel. Stayed somewhere on the way.
4th point: I am never overconfident.
5th point: I always get my bike serviced or checked before starting for a long tour.
6th point: I keep my family updated after every break I take that where I have reached and where am I heading to.
7th point: I do a very very good research on the route I am planning to use. I ask queries to the people. After 1 km I verify the information by asking the same query with another person.
You were pretty young when you suffered these issues. I probably started riding solo when I already had turned 32.
I have ridden 2 times from Bangalore to Bihar, once I drove my Tata Tiago from Bangalore to Bihar which is a very famous video on CZcams. I have driven back my Tata Tiago from Bihar to Bangalore and rode once from Bihar to Bangalore.
I have ridden solo from Bihar to Ladakh and back to Bihar solo.
Bad day can be any day. I agree with you that one more biker in a tour is a good thing but more than 2 bikes or 2 people in a trip is a horrible experience.

Same incident happened with me traveling from Goa to Pune solo
Took road from Belgavi, instead of highway google map diverted me to a road through a national park it was full off-road at 8-9pm. And similarly a guy at some dhaba said that the road is better than highway. And what a coincidence there was a railway crossing where I have stopped. My luggage moved to one side of the bike but never stopped and thanks to Xpulse suspension, haven't slowed down anywhere.
Then finally reached Belgavi city after an hour of chaos.

I also faced one incident while rode first time from BBSR to Paralakhemundi via AP with my one day old brand new Apache RTR 160 also started late and I missed the road route 40 km before my destination in AP due to Google map and it was evening 7 pm. One person asked me for lift and asked about destination as I mentioned he guided me due to organisation name. From that day onwards I never did long ride after sunset.

on a regular basis i do solo trips of 350 kms on Ntorq from Pune to Vapi. in these last 4 years i never had a single tyre puncture or blowout. only onetime i had puncture because of sharp glasses on road, either i have to insert 11 puncture strips or buy a new tyre. bought a new one instead and since then only had 3 tyre changes as a regular maintenance but not a single puncture till date. its unfortunate to see such, but i think adv's do come with tubeless option. if not in serious offroad mood i think tubeless is much more touring friendly.

Hi Bulu Bhai, You have been an inspiration for me always. I agree with most of the points you mentioned. I am a solo rider and prefer solo ride than group ride. I have less friends and the friends I have are not riders except for one or two who mostly don't go on long rides. So, I am a solo rider 80% by choice and 20% by situation. You mentioned most of my traits towards the end of your podcast, which is the reason why I don't like group rides. I carry all of the necessary items with me which is required for the ride. Hence, sharing of luggage is not a priority for me. My first long ride was Bangalore to Gokarna and back via Mangalore, Udupi and Murudeswar. That was supposed to be my first solo ride, but my dad joined me as a pillion at the last moment which gave me a lot of confidence. Prior to that, I had all the fears which you mentioned here and also I had seen you earlier vlog where you narrated that robbery incident which also had a psychological effect on my mind. After that I did a Bangalore to Mysore trip with my brother as pillion. It gave me more confidence. then came my first long solo ride from Bangalore to Rourkela. I had a lot of fears and concerns, but I had nobody to ride with me. Hence, decided to go solo. It was a huge confidence boost and I started loving solo rides. 100% peace of mind and I me and myself spirit. Plan was mine, riding style was mine, halts were of my choice, speed was my choice as well. All in all it gave me a whole lot of freedom I experienced never before. Then, back in Odisha I did a lot of solo and group rides (only with my brother). It gave me more boost. I prefer to check in to the hotel before sun goes down. It is motivated by your incident. Once, it so happened that I was riding from Rourkela to Daringbadi and badly ran out of time. Met a lot of strangers on the way, was a bit skeptical about talking with them and ended up talking and getting help from them. It turned dark and I was in the middle of a ghat section in Kalahandi forest range. I was damn scared. However, reached Daringbadi at 10 PM mostly finding myself alone on the road riding nonstop. Recently I had a comparison with duo ride format when I went to Ladakh this year. I went solo from Rourkela to Delhi and met a lot of strangers on the way and had a chit chat with them, all of them turned out to be good. From Delhi, one of my friends joined me for onward trip to Ladakh. I realized some problems:
    1. Our riding styles were different.
    2. I being a nature lover, take halts when I come across some beautiful scenic place. He doesn't.
    3. I am a vlogger, hence I stop to shoot things. he doesn't stop and moves ahead.
    4. I ride at safe speeds. He moves faster.
    5. I loved enjoying the complete journey. His motto is to reach the destination ASAP.
Hence, I landed up doing Ladakh circuit almost solo inspite of planning a duo ride coz my friend was never there with me. He was always ahead. It so happened that I landed in trouble couple of times and once I helped myself out of it and twice got help from strangers, but never from my friend who left me so much behind that I was 1 day behind him towards the end of my journey. Hence, I love solo rides but of course keeping in mind the concerns you mentioned. I know this is the longest comment on your channel coz I wrote my heart out. I hope you read it. Jai Jagannath 🙏

Solo ride is good when you’ve someone to roam with in the destination you’re going to. Else akele ghumne main maza nahi.
But I love solo ride the most because I like a personalised plan. All my solo rides are 300kms approx so yeah only the ride is solo, ghumna wagera sab dosto ke sath.

So travel at least in group of two. Bulu bhai your suggestions are perfect.

Augustya chauhan was also in group…. Accidents are inevitable. Group rides are okay for small breakfast ride but for long trips its good to go solo or max with one more guy. More than two is a big no for me.

while I was riding to Guwahati and Shillong, I stop to put on rain gears and suddenly 2 person on a bike came and started to enquire about my CZcams and started to glance on my gopro and my phone, I felt they were planning to steal my gears, so quickly I moved on.
