I have done B tech from VIT Vellore and gave GATE examination secured 36 rank all over india and now I am doing respectable govt job at IOCL with a salary of 1.3lac/month.So dont loose hope if you dont get iit or nit ,life gives you many chances, so work harder and grab the opportunity. Lol dude.. I'm from IITM and remember doing my training in a factory. They didn't let us touch the equipments too. Told us we would break the equipment. We got constantly reprimanded for being lazy and unfocused. Private institutes did much better and were much more respected. His opinions on the topic are quite stereotypical.

During Abdul Kalam time there was no IIT. He started his college near 1950 and IIT KGP was established in 1952. But he was in Madras Institute of technology, which was then the best engineering college, and even today among the top institutes of country

I currently am studying in IIT Madras, I do not regret my decision to take IIT obv, and I did keep IITs as my top preference and am lucky to have gotten in. However, I'd you don't get into IIT, ITS NOT THE END.
PRIVATE COLLEGES ARE GREAT! if you are confident in yourself, and are studying with interest even without a degree you are surely gonna excel. My friends who couldn't get into IIT are at a better position than me currently cause they focused more on their interests in CS , math etc.
Take up bits, iisc , iisers, etc. They are MUCH better too then IITs.

Bro you are crazy, Even Infosys founder Narayan Murthy said, his son couldn't get into IIT so unfortunately he has to put him into a good US University. IIT Tag is very much respected everywhere in the world. And Tell me about MIT/Stanford, These colleges are surely above IITs and most of the Top JEE rankers get into MIT or later do MS from stanford like Sundar Pichai. Even in NASA there are 30% Indians and many IITians, so nobody can look down on them. And for your information, if you are in IIT you are already out of the well, but many people who go to US to study return empty handed, and even if they get a job they get 30 to 50 thousand dollars package which is far less than what IITians earn, and if you are trying to convert dollar into rupess then you would be a fool because there is something called Purchasing power parity. So until and unless you get 1cr rupees package job in US(which only IITians get)there is nothing to brag about.

I got 93 thousand rank but i live in bihar cut off for delhi nsit and dtu for sc/st got 2lac for delhi students and 1 lac for obc students they have worst rank than me but they got admission and i didn't.......now they are in a good government college of average pakage 12lac per annum.... Hone waale ka kahi se bhi ho jaata hai, there are many who didn't go to college, self trained coders and went to google and Facebook but it has very low chances, there is a thing called guarantee, going to private colleges doesn't guarantee a placement, even if it does its for 3 lakh.... Useless, you need to apply for jobs and struggle after college but in IIT, NIT, DTU you can get 10-15 lakh/year guaranteed without doing much hardwork just in your 4th year and can get corores of rupees package once you get to the top students, that's the difference.
Karne waala to ghar se bhi karle but guarantee top colleges me mil jaati hai so it's secure and fame, tag, show off, pleasure alag sa milta hi hai.

My only suggestion to the students who are dreaming to become an IITian that try hard to achieve your dream but remember if you can't get into iit then also you can get success in life equivalent or even more than IITian. As mostly it depends on how you carry yourself after graduation, how you use your intellect to build your carrier and future matters. It can be done even if you don't get selected in iit or nit.

In today's time when small children are suffering from depression, such type of talks can further aggregate the problem manifold. Selection in IITs or any institution of National Repute is a very good motivation to achieve success in life but it doesn't mean that it is the only way.
I studied from a private college in NOIDA in Mechanical Engineering. Got 3 campus placements and cracked GATE with a AIR 400 and finally got selected in ONGC, HPCL and BEML. I also qualified for ISRO, BARC and DRDO, got admission for Mtech in IIT-K, Kgp,D,R,B.
This means life never shuts the door but instead it opens several others provided one is ready to do hardwork. Such demotivating speeches should be avoided and ones ' focus should always be directed towards his/her respective goals.

World has changed do drastic.And this internet boom allows us to get ourself skilled without going to such institutes.I did hard work and got IIT.But one of my friend did the same amount of hardwork just on data science by gathering resources online through Udemy and Coursera and he got a job of 72 lpa.Plans to hire me in his startup(comical).

this makes sense in that class setting as he was motivating for guys who want to get into IITs but posting this online will demotivate many who didn't cracked and IIT == success is pretty lame. many just want a good package in a software MNC nothing else. before, "you shouldn't criticize IITs because you haven't cracked them batch" arrives, I didn't even know about jee, aieee in my +2 written eamcet got into a tier-3 clg. graduated this year (2020), but got job as a ML research engineer at a silicon valley startup for 100k usd/yr + stocks. the difference is the effort you put in ( at least 2 yrs continuously learning things ) next an year of understanding how connections works, how to get into companies, competing, etc. I've seen IITians who don't know simple CS theory concepts. but it's true that they get good resources including faculty and environment. but with internet, If you put in good amount of hard work you can read books, journals, etc. that most IITians don't and you'll become a better researcher or engineer than them.
