    Instead of the input Boolean workaround, you could add the Aqara hub to Home Assistant through the HomeKit Controller integration. Then expose the devices back to your HomeKit network with the HomeKit integration. I avoided doing this for a while, but having made the switch it has been solid and performs just as well as a direct HomeKit connection.

    Brian sent me here ! @automateyourlife - I purchased the older Aqara motion detector just 6 days ago, and will be sending it back, after watching your video. Thanks to Brian for sending me here to get the review on this new P1 version. Amazon vendor Aqara sent me a message a few days ago which doesn't seem to fit with your review or the description on their new P1 device in the description box. Aqara's direct email to me when I asked them about the diff between the old and new P1 sensor was this : *there is no big difference of the motion detection function between these two motion sensors. You will need to have an Aqara Hub in order to use our devices. Any of our hubs will work for you depending on your needs * That said, thankfully I have a window open to send the one I purchased to Amazon, and - because of Amazon's sale right now, the new one is $7 off with their Prime Early Sale going on which started today.

    Interesting, being able to shorten the detected time will be good for my use, to build an alarm with no false triggers I use a 3 triggers in 50 seconds rule. This wasn't possible with the previous model. I also want a mixture of 433mhz rf and zigbee sensors for stability. I will have to purchase a couple and wait for the ZHA integration to catch up. 😊

Meaning, that for as long as someone is in a room, the lights stay on, without flickers like turning off then on, and when the room is vacant for a few minutes, then an event is triggered to turn off the light?

    I just got this sensor based on this review and others like it. What no review mentions (and I only found out first-hand and later reading about it on reddit and the home assistant community discourse) is the awful range of motion detection. Testing it in perfect conditions (chest-level placement, clear field of view, dead on center from the sensor), it only detects me up to 2 meters (6.5 feet). Putting it up in a corner, that range drops to less than 1.5 meters.
    This is extremely disappointing, especially as I also have the original aqara motion sensor, which works perfectly in my hallway (over 5 meters range).
    The fact that no reviewer mentioned this (and it's actually a widespread complaint if you go read comment sections) shows that none of them actually use the equipment they're reviewing.

    • @SlackerLabs
      @SlackerLabs  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for the feedback. Your comment has inspired me to do a video showing the range I get with the P1. My living room P1 is consistently picking up motion at 24 feet on the default sensitivity. I haven’t had any range issues with any of the three P1 devices I have around the house. And they are all an important part of my room presence system. If they didn’t work in this house consistently at detecting people anywhere in these rooms my lights and audible notifications wouldn’t work.

    The old Aqara sensor was properly detected be ZHA, deConz and Zigbee2MQTT as far as I remember. I hope this one gets the support soon. Have to admit having the ability to set the cooldown time is a winning feature. I have previously had a preference for Hue motion sensors as they had 10 second cooldown, which is one of the shortest I have known. Another channel I watch suggested the P1 had something extra to detect presence even if motion wasn't triggered, Is that the case or is it purely just motion detection?

I am not using Node-RED since that is way over my head (only starting learning HA a few weeks ago). My question is, without using Node-RED, an Aqara Hub, or HomeKit, is it possible for me to adjust the sensitivity and interval timeout with my setup that I described? Whenever I try to change the sensitivity or interval, it reverts back to the default settings, so they are not saving.
