  • I thought it might be fun to do an episode where we actually use the tractor instead of just work on it. Little did I know that it would take me an extra month to get the thing ready to mow this year and the grass would be at least a foot tall before we finally got the season started. She chopped it down like a champ!

      No doubt! I was pretty embarassed by the time I got to it, but she handled it like a champ. If things had gone to plan the video wouldn't have been nearly as cool either, so, there was a bright side.;)
      Thanks for stopping in!

      @@TheBrokenLife I'm working double time to get my Cub 147 restored in time to mow with it this season. Getting close, check out my series if you dare.

      Am I seeing it right that you've been working on it for over 8 years? If so, man, I'm excited for you to get it going this year too!
      Where did you come up with the metal drive shaft fan? An earlier model? I need a couple of those...
      edit: I only now am realizing yours is a narrow frame, hence the metal fan. I had it in my mind at first that a 147 was a manual transmission 149. I was wondering why you had a funny cam cover. ;)

    Neat video, speaking of running things over, I mowed my father's backyard one time and ran over a Croquet ball. It hit the underside of the push mower I was using hard enough to make the gas cap pop off and made me think I broke the mower because it caused it to run rough.

      I've mowed over an insane number of things over the years. I'd have to say a snake was probably the most interesting end result...

      It's been a slow year for tractor content. There will be more coming in the future for sure. 👍

    If you would have had the old steel deck instead of the pressed one like what you have it would have done it better. They are heavy heavy built though

    • @TheBrokenLife

      Hummm... We have a 102, 127, and this 149 all with decks of their prospective eras and I never noticed a huge difference in performance or paid too much attention to their construction. The limiter across all of them seems to be horsepower.
      The Haban decks later on in the '80s look to be _very_ nice pieces. Some of the modern stuff is also crazy heavy built.

    What size and type tires are you using in the front ? They look awesome and I want some for mine

      Deestone D837 Straight Rib Tire 16X650-8/4 TL. Oddly, you're the second person this week to ask me about them. I made a video that shows them off a little better if you're interested.

    Thank you. I have the same mower and looks like the same deck. Would you happen to know what spindles I need to buy for replacements? Two work great but one seized up last year. Any info would be great. Thank you.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  Před 4 lety

      I believe what you're after is an IH ST-745 and they're very expensive.
      In my opinion, you're better off to buy an entire second used deck off of your local classifieds. I've bought 2 very nice 50A decks (the deck in the video is a 44A, so a 44") for $100/ea.
      Good luck with it!

      @@shawnmontalvo181 You can buy it as an entire assembly, but it's even more expensive. I don't know the part number for that, sorry.

    I wonder how Manu acres it would take to wear out the back tires.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  Před 3 lety

      Many, many, thousand. The only reason I replaced the original front tires are because they were leaking and affordable to replace. The rears are original, badly dry rotted, and have tubes in them, yet they go along just fine.

    What is the difference between a 129 and 149

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  Před 3 lety

      2 horsepower and maybe hydraulic implement lift. All 149s have hydraulic lift, but I'm not sure all 129s do.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  Před 3 lety

      @@lukeplouse2295 Sounds like it was an optional feature then. I'm reasonably sure 149s are much more common than 129s and that may be one of the reasons.

      @@TheBrokenLife ok, Funny story on how I got the tractor my uncle flips houses he bought an abandoned house in found that tractor under a tarp behind the garage with the sleeve hitch a mole board plow a snow plow in a mower deck and a mule drive he called me because he knew I knew a lot about the machines I came out and picked it up sprayed some starting fluid in it and put a new battery and it started right up

      @@lukeplouse2295 Not surprising to find them like that. Usually the people that cared about them died 20 years ago. I am surprised someone had all of those accessories with a manual lift though. It sucks to plow snow like that. Have done it, don't like it. :)
